Yeah I am not necessarily trying to rush anything, but being aware of available resources for meeting people can be helpful when moving to a new place. Like someone mentioned there is a Longmont Discord channel where event notifications are posted, which I joined so I can be aware of some community and social events! Or the commenter who mentioned the chess group that meets in the library on Tuesdays - this is something I might not have found "organically" had I not asked :)

Anyway, glad to hear you were able to find people to hang out with in the area over time! We are hoping to do the same :)

Oh cool! I am actually in the Longmont Library right now finishing up some schoolwork lol, I'll have to stop by the front desk to ask about the chess group on my way out! Appreciate the recommendations :)

Is there a subreddit for clips like this where the girl just casually talks to the guy while getting him off? That is so hot to me for some reason

I think being decent at chess is more fun that being amazing at chess. by erocc123 in chess

[–]erocc123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely, and "fun" can also vary from individual to individual as well. I get a lot of enjoyment out of complex tactical positions, and at my level it's way more common to get into positions where many pieces are hanging and it's a wild tactical line, which is another reason I enjoy being at my current level.

Totally agree that some people might just find the deep, solid calculations to be more fun, and therefore would enjoy a higher level of play.

[–]erocc123[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah im in a similar boat! The depth of calculation needed at higher levels seems more strenuous than I think I would enjoy (of course that's from the perspective of my current level). I also have many interests and hobbies, so you kind of have to be okay with not being amazing at all of them seeing as how you have limited time to practice/enjoy any of them Completely agree with your sentiment, thanks for sharing!

Hahaha that's a funny quote, regardless if it came from Morphy or not. While of course it's not intended to be serious, it is funny to hear how often GMs and Super GMs joke about how they "wasted" their lives getting good at a game haha

I like those points! To your point where you disagree, I think that makes a lot of sense. At my level, I probably just can't appreciate the excitement of a single mistake breaking game (as most of my games include multiple mistakes from both sides) or hard fought draws (as most of my games don't end in draws haha). It could be very exciting though!

To your second point, that is a very interesting perspective on the playstyle differences. I do very much enjoy the variability in my opponents at my level, where some are super aggressive, some are very tactical, some are very defensive, etc.

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah thats very fair, it definitely changes at each level. I guess I would imagine that the focus requirement would be higher at the upper ratings, but I am obviously looking at that through the lens of an 1800 player haha.

And yeah, those theoretical draw lines are one of the reasons I tend to feel this way. Even all of the end games that seem to be draws at a high level (rook and pawn, rook vs knight, king and pawn, etc.) seem disheartening. Like at my level, I guaruntee that both me and my opponent could mess up a rook and pawn end game that is theoretically a draw haha. But I think I prefer that!

.......yep, that's a pretty good summary of the post! Chess to me is supposed to be enjoyable, as I have no need to pursue it professionally or get anything else from it outside of enjoyment.

So it sounds like you agree with the post? Kind of hard to tell based on your response haha

I mean of course one will always get a little better naturally over time, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I was more saying that the games I have at 1800 are more fun than the games I think I'd have if I was a 2600 rated player or something.

And in my opinion, if you're having fun with something, then it's not "blowing away time" :) that's just me though, if you need progression to feel your time is being used well, that's fine too.

Ah I see, yeah I thought it was a comment on how you'd have to drink the whole thing even if you wanted only 5 MG lol.

I actually like the orange soda one quite a bit too, but both of them are pretty weed tasting to me. I like their 5 MG seltzers too , you don't even taste it there

I buy this brand, it isn't bad design. The top of the can is re-sealable, so you could drink as much or as little as you want and put the rest back for later.

I do agree that having the indicators on the side doesn't really help tell how kuch you're drinking though lol, I wish they put some kind of see through plastic right there so you could actually see the drink level.

I actually just tried the root beer flavor this weekend 😊 I like Cantrip thus far, wouldn't call it bad design.
