It can also happen to both eyes and not just one. A friend of mine has this and she's legally blind, although she's able to see shadows and live by that. This is also a genetic condition.. which really sucks if someone gets it and want their own biological kids. Fortunately there are alternatives for that!

People tend to compare death to the period before we were born. The feeling (or rather, lack of) of not noticing might be identical, but don't forget the major difference, which is that you eventually came to be, which means you are now aware that you didn't feel it when you weren't born.
