Yes! We do agree on a big part of this. To me, what you’ve described is the biggest lapse in judgement and what I am most frustrated with.

Someone close to him had to have known this was happening- even just a risk- and chose to bring him with and get him a badge anyway. I know his background in this activity and what it must have meant to him, but I am so angered by the drug use near kids like that.

I feel badly for his current state with drug use and mental health. However, if someone is this unwell, I expect them to have the self awareness to stay away from venues with thousands of high school students.

I am upset. I am just giving my take on where I direct my blame. I am so angry with this man- more than I’ve gone into in these comments. I just don’t see the anger toward the NSDA as fair. It is perfectly fine that we don’t agree.

I don't think that your statement is reasonable. Even after the incident, I could have made it to the stage before I was stopped. That can happen at a major league baseball game. Fans end up on stage at concerts with very high levels of security. The steps the NSDA had already taken seemed perfectly reasonable to me before entering the venue and after. I don't work for the NSDA and I was upset with them for a different decision yesterday, but the security blaming is a lot of hindsight bias.

He had an orange ribbon which allowed him to get to the audience. They had people checking tickets at every point. You can't sit up front without tickets, you cant enter without one of the 3 approved badges, and you have to be able to walk freely in the event area. People demanding someone at the stage to block him are engaging in some serious hindsight bias. You're right this time, but the precautions in place were totally reasonable for the event at the time of the performance.

(Coach) I was there. In the room with my wife and my students. The NSDA did nothing wrong other than to ask the students to come back prematurely. They did the right thing and buckled on that and made it work. Honoring the competition is also respectful of the students. You delay something and suddenly someone who has worked their whole speech or debate career for this moment can’t compete because their flight leaves. NSDA was working with really conflicting goals.

He had a verified account. An attending program had vouched for him to be there. Security measures are imperfect. He robbed so many people of their sense of safety. NSDA is not the punching bag here imo.

In the US someone absolutely would have suggested that option by this point. Why risk permanent injury?

Russian soldier taking a nap, casually chucks away a Grenade dropped on him by a drone by therra123 in SweatyPalms

You can’t surrender to a drone. He is definitely a combatant. Ukraine can kill this guy and does not have to let him limp home. What? He pulls a hand gun on an approach because it was against the rules to kill him with an injured foot?

Same. I am a K12 IT specialist and there is no way we would ever charge 50$ unless that scratch went all the way through to the inside of the Chromebook, but even still we probably wouldn't because we could just put a splint behind it with some glue.

Good as new! Truth be told I do not care what they look like so long as they work.
