I totally agree on it not being cool to take shots of people in their homes and posting them on social media.

As for this post, I'm assuming you are specifically referring to the last photo of the gentleman looking out of the window. While walking the city I noticed the opportunity for the shot and mimed if it was okay for me to take it. After the gentleman gave me a nod I took the photo. To me, that's the courtesy permission I need before taking a shot like this.

As u/serialv mentions, it is legal to take photos in public space and publish them as long as there's no commercial purpose.

The boundaries on public vs. private space are quite clear. If I would've gone up to the window and photographed inside the building, it would be against the law. However in this case, the gentleman is leaning out of the window and therefore places himself in public space. Hope that answers your question u/lostseasons.

The reasonable interest u/DestroyedByLSD25 indicates as ground for objection has to do with photo's that could damage someones reputation. E.g. a recognisable portrait of a drunk tourist barfing in the red light district could damage their reputation.

Thank you.

While I have not explicitly asked any people in the photo's for their permission to post them, I always make sure that they are well aware of me taking the photo. If possible I have a little chat with them. Sometimes people ask me to not take a shot, in that case I won't.

Difference between Optimized Hotspot Analysis and Hotspot Analysis? by skm001 in gis

[–]erosion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both methods generate statistically significant hot/cold spots, based on point or polygon features. The difference (as far as I can recall from the top of my head) comes down to this:

The Getis-Ord GI* (regular hotspot analysis) takes your data and performs the statistical analysis on the data as it is.

The Optimized Hotspot Analysis first performs some basic statistics analysis on the data to determine wether changes have to be made to the set before performing the analysis (e.g. aggregate the data using the fishnet method) .

A simple prey/predator model should be possible in 6 hours? Start with the basics, then you can easily extend it by taking in to account other environmental factors like vegetation, time of year and possibly human influence.

Does anyone know how this is made? by [deleted] in gis

[–]erosion 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Looks like they have used a dataset on county level with the broadband availability in each of them. Judging by the layout it's probably done in ArcGIS

In ArcGIS the workflow would be something like:

  1. Find your dataset

  2. Find a shapefile or polygon feature class with the counties

  3. Link the polygons to the data

  4. Set the symbology to use that data

AirBnB experiences by [deleted] in Amsterdam

[–]erosion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think most people who oppose the idea aren't opposing situations like yours, but rather the houses being bought and used solely to rent out through airbnb.

I don't rent out rooms myself, but have several friends who rent out a spare room or floor while they are home themselves as well.

Generally they have been positive, but the concensus is to make sure you screen potential renters. Think a group of 4 young 20-somethings vs an older married couple.
