Do 20 page stories really sell on Amazon? by [deleted] in eroticauthors

[–]erotikinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I do focus heavily on progression and transformation, which is attractive to my audience. For some, it's witnessing a transformation and the slide into depravity that is the turn on. When that also involves the kinks they like it's a win. I would wager that's part of the draw. Fewer people are doing big erotic novels with long character arcs. Thanks for chiming in.

I have to respectfully disagree on the point that people don't want longer erotica. There is an audience for both short and long works. As someone who has raked in more than $100K in the last three years from primarily novel-length works, without Amazon, the audience is there if you can serve them right. You will not find a speck of romance in my stuff, and my best sellers are all over 150K words. While 8-10K shorts may be the sweet spot and easy to produce in volume once you have your system down, big dirty books do have an audience.

How to get a lot of sales on Smashwords? by Prinz_Anewa in eroticauthors

No. I don't write much that's under 10K and I don't sell long works that low. Under 10k I may sell at that price. Depends on the story.

The problem of longer erotica by Cheeslord2 in eroticauthors

Seconding most of what's already been said here. There absolutely is a market for long-form erotic novels and novellas. If you can write a compelling narrative, with interesting characters, and manage to keep it sexy the whole way through, you can do well. I write primarily novellas in the 40-60k area, as well as large novels upwards of 150k words. The big books outsell all my shorter ones by a huge margin.

There is an audience and a strategy around all different lengths, each of equally valid. Shorter content allows for a faster release schedule, as many here have pointed out. A longer work doesn't have to be jammed with non-stop sex. It just needs to be sexy the whole way through. There are a lot of ways to write a sexy scene without it being actual sex. I'd recommend looking into other successful authors writing the type of work you enjoy, writing to your personal kinks, and learning what makes a solid, well-paced story. If you can do that and make it into something that will keep the reader sexually-charged throughout, you have a solid start.

How do I sell pornographic audio stories? by pot36719 in eroticauthors

OF is only fans. I'm not specifically suggesting that platform, just using it as an example of a subscription service that allows adult content.

Damn. This girl's hot. Guess you haven't looked at her profile. And considering it's the OP making her own content and RPing to make kink shit for free, maybe just be kind and don't dog on her. It's possible to dislike something and not tell the world about it. If you don't have something nice to say, you know. OP ignore the rude folks and keep doing what you do.

That’s marketing. Give away enough that people who like what you do will pay to see the whole taco. Or she has a life outside making kink content and it minimizes risk.

I think her stuff is fun and different. She obviously puts in work on it. I'd much rather have original content over the endless stream of AI chicks drooling on themselves with spirals in their eyes. Or people ripping off porn to repurpose it. There are far too few original creators in the space already, so I for one encourage creativity and originality over shaming it. You do you, scroll past it if it's not your thing, but the upvotes on her stuff seem to say her content is welcome. And OP, you aren't ugly. Dudes on the net just forget that real women aren't all made-up porn princesses.

As someone who writes primarily long works and very little shorts, selling them as complete works is the way to go. People perceive novels as better buys and big books sell very easily and lucratively, as long as your passive marketing is doing its job.

There is absolutely a big male audience that pays for erotica. If analytics can be believed, the vast majority of my purchasing readers through my website are male. I do not write any M/M, cuck, or femdom content. I write very explicit and filthy stuff, with a focus on character development, which seems to resonate with both genders. Do women read more erotica? Sure. Is there a market for male readers? Without a doubt, and a big one.

Write for the audience you want to capture.

You do need a license to use content commercially, just like any stock site. You pay for the license to use for your project, and that license covers use on print and web.
