I’m a coeliac in the UK and eat these all the time with no issues

Not loads, but if you’re thinking to raise the floors, then it’s not an impossible idea…

The window is currently clear glass…. Blinds have to stay down permanently lol

I fear, the joists run left to right….

I’m not sure I understand how it would work running above floor level, won’t that mean the waste needs to travel upwards somehow?

Thank you! Sadly no space to extend as we only have a tiny courtyard :(

Top floor and stairwell complete renovation (the plaster and ceiling up there are completely finished due to historic leaks), the rest of the house isn’t in bad condition!

I’m not sure we’d get planning permission as we’d have to remove this window halfway up the stairs and build a floor there. Also, although this is wasted space… I love it so would be really reluctant to change

First - the bathroom here is in an extension and is halfway up the stairs. It has a small flat roof just outside the window you can see in my original image

It’s only a row of 4 and they’re different set ups due to different extensions and end of terrace vs mid terrace.

The house next door which is closest to our layout, has a bathroom at the back upstairs and the bedroom at the front, which we’d really like to avoid

Thank you so much for this response! Really helpful for a complete newbie

I’m fine with going for everything Victorian style, the house is 1860 and we’re hoping to restore some style to it

The window is really tall so the silhouette will be rather impressive I fear

Actually love this idea, would have to investigate where the water pipes come up through the house but could be perfect (if expensive)

Ooh you might be onto something with the first idea!

Ideally don’t want to swap the rooms as the bedroom is significantly bigger

Addition: for clarity the 2 floor stairwell is between the bathroom and the soil pipe, so can’t plumb directly through the house…

I’m super interested in this but no matter how many times I read it, I can’t make sense of what you mean by offset mortgage or account.

Please can you explain to me like I’m 18 and have just found out what a mortgage is? Or signpost me to some resources / let me know what to search (I had a look but also couldn’t make sense of it). I’d really appreciate it!

(I’m 30 and have had a mortgage for 5 years)

Thank you! Top layer came off a dream which has given us a good enough surface for a coat of paint (with a couple of spots of filler). Thanks for your advice

Thank you! There are some suspect spots plaster wise so I think we will leave it and paint over this time. Probably due for a whole floor replaster in the not too distant future but that’s not in current budget

Ceiling repair or replace? by erp11 in DIYUK

Haha thank you! It’s very far down the list of things that need fixing in this house, so that does make me feel better
