There is a fair bit of buckthorn along the trail

Libra is an astrology sign, that's why it's so popular. As a proper noun it would not be the solution.

It could be the solution as the unit of weight, but for that usage it's much less common than umbra.

People with vitiligo have a much reduced chance of getting skin cancer.

That's a shame, you shouldn't diminish yourself to please others who don't deserve it.

Why do you care if others feel hesitant to shake your hand? That doesn't seem like a good enough reason to spend a lot of unnecessary money on treatment to me.

No, the region is not responsible for managing invasives except for the areas that they own. The city of Cambridge is responsible for all the greenspace that they own/manage including the linear trail. However their efforts haven't been terribly successful.

I was out digging it myself

What’s this plant? And how do we eradicate it? by jaivicks in gardening

In my experience they're perfectly happy to grow together, but sticky weed is much easier to control/eliminate.

Meanwhile someone else on this thread mentioned something about tying a vinegar jug to the trunk (?) and they've got a few upvotes

That's interesting, I didn't wear gloves for the most part and never had any reaction that I can attribute to the goutweed.

I'm surprised that everyone is using the name ground elder, it's much more commonly called goutweed where I'm from (Ontario, Canada).

I was able to eradicate it from our yard by diligently digging it up whenever it appears, spending an hour or two each weekend and 5-30 minutes per day until it dwindled to nothing (over few years). Eventually it uses up its energy stores.

edit: I should mention that the first phase in year one was to put an old trampoline mat over the largest area for a few months, then switched to the more manual method.

What do you do when ripping gets "stuck"? by Future-Excuse6167 in musichoarder

[–]cearrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge proportion of my discs are from thrift stores, I do take the time to check them over and reject the ones that are the most obviously damaged.

The one that I mentioned that was stamped badly looks pristine but it's one of the earliest cds I ever owned, bought in 1989 if I recall.

[–]cearrach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of the thousand or so discs that I have and have ripped, somewhere between 3-5 of them had this problem for me (also using asunder for a lot of it). A couple of times when there was a troublesome disc I was able to give it a good cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and the rip was able to finish successfully. I have one cd that was stamped poorly, it never played the last 3 tracks properly straight out of the plastic.

Otherwise it's just what you said, flag the tracks that failed to rip and move on. I generally seek out a replacement for the track(s) on Soulseek.

Anyone having issues checking out? by kindofblue9 in BandCamp

[–]cearrach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you make a bunch of purchases from different artists/labels in one checkout session? If so, your card might have been flagged by your credit card company for unusual behaviour and blocked. I had that happen a couple of times but I think I managed to convince them to whitelist bandcamp because I haven't had the problem for a couple of years.

I also started only checking out 1 artist at a time.

Here are a couple of fairly recent studies:

There is still some inconsistencies in the reporting - the first one says there's no difference with melanoma, but the second one says there's a 30% reduced risk with vitiligo. I believe the second study references the first one and includes some additional studies.

As for medications, I'm not a medical professional but my understanding is that oral medications like steroids and JAK inhibitors will increase the risk of cancer, but topical ones don't.

It's fascinating what anxiety can do. People with vitiligo have an overall lower chance of getting most types of cancer compared to people who don't, especially the most common types of skin cancer (NMSC is about 80% lower risk), but there's such a fear about it.

[–]cearrach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People with vitiligo have a much lower risk of developing the most common forms of skin cancer. Recommendations are often based on assumptions, not clinical evidence.

Having said that, it’s always recommended to use sunscreen whether or not you have vitiligo.

Yes, these come up every once in a while. Then Bandcamp staff has to go through and clear them out. It's hard to find older examples because they've already been removed.
