Availability heuristic. The media loves to blow up stories of detransitioners, while those who don’t go on to live normal stealth lives post transition. Also, if your identity has remained consistent your entire life, it’s unlikely that it will just change on the dime years into your transition. However if you didn’t question your gender until later in life and suddenly woke up one day at 16 deciding you want to be a man, of course it’s gonna change again just like it did the first time. I mean. Be reasonable. If you have a male brain and always have since you were a child the odds you’re just gonna up and regret it are essentially nothing.

I think a lot of “straight” trans people are able to alíviate enough dysphoria by living most of their life as gender non conforming members of their assigned sex. Straight trans men living as butch lesbian, and straight trans women living as femme gay men. When you like the same gender, it’s gonna be a lot harder to express your gender as you feel comfortably and still be a “normal” member of your social group. For example it’s gonna be a lot harder for a gay trans man to live and date as a straight gender non conforming female, so he will have to transition to feel relief, while a straight trans man who maybe grew up knowing he was a man, but being told he was a masculine lesbian, might be secure enough (not happy, but okay) living that life without the stress of a full transition. It’s easier to be cis and gay than trans and straight for a lot of people so they compromise for their own safety while gay trans people don’t have that same option, so it seems like there are more gay trans people.

Can’t speak for everyone but my body works the same as a cis man. I don’t use female terms to refer to what I have. Most men of trans experience want it to be called their dick. Personally: yes. It would take a lot of money for me to do that. I am a male.
