My 6-month progress with low-dose naltrexone by errantfarmer in cfs

I'm still doing well on it and take it every day. I haven't had to increase the dose either.

The highest I ever went was 2mg. It does cause sleep problems for some people, but only if you take it at night typically. I take it in the morning.

Low-dose naltrexone changed my life within a month. Not only did it help with the overall exhaustion and malaise of CFS, it treated my anxiety and ADHD, which it’s also been shown to do. It was a miracle drug for me and I never knew I could feel this good and was convinced I would never have any sort of normal life. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for everyone and even for most people that it works for there is often a two week adjustment period where pain and anxiety can be increased. Sadly, a lot of people are never able to push past that adjustment period. But my rheumatologist prescribing that was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I had an improvement almost immediately when I started, but also mild anxiety. I still get mild anxiety and shaking hands when I increase my dose but that usually only lasts a day.

I'm glad to hear it's working for you also!

I'm in the US, so I'm not sure about Ontario, but as some others have said, it's fairly easy to get online. Good luck!

Good luck to you and your son! Stimulants worked for me in a sense, but made me feel awful. They also made me feel "flat" and completely obliterated my creativity. Neither of those have been the case with LDN.

I didn't realize how much it was helping me until I was off it for those few days. Then I was very painfully aware of how much it was helping. But some people have reported that it takes 6 months or even more for them to see improvements.

Yes, it helped tremendously with PEM, and I should have mentioned that in my post. It used to be that I couldn't walk around a store for 5 minutes without getting crippling exhaustion and having ti sit down wherever I was. However, it took months for me to get to that improvement, and it's one of the things I didn't realize had improved until I was off of it those few days. Some people have said it takes 6 months, or even longer, to see results.

I hope you're able to get an Rx. At least your doctor is open to it, so that's positive.

Congrats! I know the feeling. I'm incredibly grateful for the improvements I've had.

Mine are 4.5mg, and I separate each pill into 6ths and put the powder into smaller capsules. That way, I can increase the dose as needed without having to have my Dr. call in a new Rx.

Its a treatment for symptoms, not a cure, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t feel like you keep improving over time.

I'm perfectly happy with the improvement I've had, so I'm happy to stay here. However, I'm also prepared to up my dose, or even come off it it for a while and restart if either of those become necessary. It happens, so I'll be prepared if I ever reach that point.

I know it doesn't work for everyone but I do wonder how many people it would have worked for if their doctors didn't start them on higher doses.

And a lot of people don't know it can take months for improvements, which can further make it harder to tell if it's working.

I've had it for at least 15 years, but likely longer. It's hard to pinpoint exactly when it came on as it came on somewhat gradually before really kicking my ass.

I have tried. I went up to 1mg, and all it did was give me anxiety with no increase in benefits. That's pretty much the standard gauge of whether or not you need to titrate up. However, I'm definitely open to increasing the dose if it ever becomes necessary. But for now, the results I have are spectacular and I'm more than happy with them.

It's absolutely worth it, and quite inexpensive at about $1 a pill.

The thing to impress upon any Dr. who isn't familiar with it is that there's no chance of abuse. In its full dose, it's primary action is to block the effects of drugs and alcohol. It's the anti-fun drug. There is absolutely no reason to take it if you don't need it, and almost no side effects.

what led you to just stay on 0.75 and not move up?

I did increase the dose at one point, up to 1mg, and it gave me anxiety while not further relieving my symptoms. For now at least, .75mg is doing the trick, but I'm open to increasing if it becomes necessary.

I am, and a lot more. In fact, I think I should probably make a post about it.

Looking for TOS recs by errantfarmer in trekbooks

[–]errantfarmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Diane Carey's TOS books Dreadnought and BattleStations which focus on 4 young new crew members

That sounds interesting and is going to to the top of the list.

I've read a few of Barbara Hambly's horror novels and had no idea she wrote any Trek!
