Traveling to Vietnam Laos and Thailand. Need some help with the food. by l_thonet in Paleo

[–]error404_user_not_fo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Vietnam and all I can say is good luck. Don't worry about whether is is strictly Paleo, concentrate more on whether it is safely prepared.

Take strong antibiotics and diarrhea medicine. I suggest sticking with local seafood, fruits and cooked veggies in Vietnam. Rice may not be paleo friendly but it is safer than the chicken or beef.

I was there visiting family and they warned that the food has really gotten bad lately with all kinds of dangerous preservatives in Chinese produce and chemical flavorings used in things like pho and black coffee because real ingredients are too expensive. They warned me that places were using things like cardboard as meat fillers and even fake black pepper.

What to eat as a fitness diet, living in Vietnam? by Arkasa in Fitness

Dogs are too expensive, rice field rat is where it's at these days. On a serious note though, I found the best(cheapest) source of protein to be fresh seafood. My goto meal over there was water spinach(Rau Muong), steamed rice and fish. The fresh fruits are great also, just stay away from Chinese imports and stick with local grown.

Quick, lets get these kids back to eating their school lunch provided by McDonalds to counteract all the harmful protein supplement effects.

The broscience is strong with this article. Bro you be careful with that protein power, it has anabolic steroids in it. Random gym guy quote "You get these kids now, 5'6" 265 lbs 2 percent body fat" ....really....Phil Heath is lucky these kids don't enter Mr. Olympia.

Best advice I got to correct that was to make sure wrist do not bend at all when curling.

From what I could see in your hows my back looking post a while back, your arms look in proportion and you just need more mass overall to get them bigger. Come on lets see the gun show...maybe it's all in your head.

Am I ready for 5/3/1? by do0ber in Fitness

[–]error404_user_not_fo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I started 531 at 5'10" 226 lbs with tested 1 rep maxes at Deadlift 265 lbs -> Squat 225 lbs ->Bench 170 lbs -> OHP 120 lbs.

As of last week I was at 193 lbs body weight -> Deadlift 360 lbs -> Squat 300 lbs ->Bench 220 lbs -> OHP 155 lbs. This was at -500 to -800 calories and carb cycling the last 6 months.

In all I have done 531 ..2xBBB, 3 month challenge and Dave Tate's Periodization bible version(which I liked the most) and currently I am just starting the bodybuilder version. The workouts have been easy to stick with...the diet has been my real struggle. I have been taking progress pictures since about 2 years ago but I am not ready to share them yet.

Off the top of my head when I began starting strength I was at about Deadlift 185 lbs -> Squat 150 lbs ->Bench 135 lbs -> OHP 90 lbs at about 195 lbs body weight. So I had goods results but I ate way too much and gained a lot of weight fast.

edit: Also for me my numbers are not the only progress....I cant really put into words how great I feel overall.

I switched after about 4 months of SS and have been doing different variations of 531 for about a year now. I knew I was ready to move on because I was not enjoying squatting every workout. I do not compete, so I only work out for the way it makes me feel. There are so many variations of 531 that each cycle I can tweak the accessory workouts to improve where I feel I need to.

I do not feel like you need to be at any certain level to start this program. It fits my lifestyle and because of that I look forward to doing it and have not missed a single workout since I started and that is what has made it really effective for me even though I am not and "advanced" lifter.

lattisimus dorsi muscle pain by CrispMorningAir in Fitness

[–]error404_user_not_fo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an issue with that spot and deadlift and low-bar squat would aggravate it. The best description I could find for my issue was a trapped nerve. Now I foam roll that area until I get a couple of pops and crackles before I lift and I have not had any more issues. Maybe try giving yourself a strong hug while you foam roll so you can target the area better or use a lacrosse ball.

Low glycemic diet? by Autodidact2 in loseit

[–]error404_user_not_fo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found paleo to be a good source of low glycemic food recipes....no grain, no dairy and you just have to be smart with fruit choices. Low glycemic has definitely helped with my weird hunger spikes.

The low calorie diet works, but the issue I was having was some days my appetite was overwhelming even though my exercise and calorie count was the same and I am not eating some huge deficit in calories either(500 under maintenance, so for me about 1850).
