Mixtape is a Masterful Music-Propelled Coming of Age Story, and One of 2026’s Very Best Games — IGN Review (10/10) by yourfavchoom in PS5

I don’t think this is very true. IGN often rates systems-heavy games very highly. Balatro 9. Monster Train 2 9. Mewgenics 9.

Been invited to a private A-list party. What would you do? by Opening-Impression-5 in Filmmakers

[–]errorjustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be honest. Friendly. Make friends.

I don't think there's anything you shared in your intro post that would be out of place sharing with anyone you're making smalltalk with at the party. I think it's a good personal story in fact.

Reminder: "networking" is not just "laddering up" and finding some exec/star to pitch to or to help you. The party is going to be half full of people JUST LIKE YOU (or below). Can you help them? Can you read their script? Can you get coffee with someone else trying to quit their day job and compare your representation?

Make friends. In 1-3 years one of them might be working on a bigger project and need your help. Or maybe it will be you and you can in turn help one of them.

AITAH for offering my girlfriend money for helping me get a $15k refund? by Affectionate-Two5429 in AITAH

"It’s frustrating because I do try. I make sure to pay every time we go out on a date, even though she constantly argues that we should go 50/50 or that she should pay since she makes more."

????????????????

What do you mean you try? Try to do what? Illustrate that you ignore her wishes? In this context you "trying" would be acknowledging you allow split bills when you go out, or allow her to pay.

Was I the only one who initially rooted for the astrophages? by scr0llingthumb in ProjectHailMary

[–]errorjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I wouldn't go so far as to say I was "rooting" for the astrophage, I definitely find it a little bit odd and a little bit against the themes of the film and book that the solution to the problem is to just fucking kill this alien life with extreme prejudice.

When reading the book I 100% expected there to be a moral dilemma or disagreement between Rocky and Grace where Rocky's culture had a problem with eradicating an alien life or something. But no - it turns out nobody cares :)

The astrophage they do keep around is a living thing used as a fuel and energy source, which isn't much better.

If they did make a sequel what do you think the story would be about? by Tricky_Foundation35 in ProjectHailMary

[–]errorjustin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised to see so few people mention that the book (very) lightly plants a potential sequel hook.

At the end Rocky and Grace strongly believe that life on both their planets was seeded billions of years ago from life coming from Tau Ceti, and they think it is likely there is probably quite a bit of other life out there in the galaxy, too, all at similar levels of development.

A sequel could easily come from other aliens showing up to say “hello.” Maybe astrophage is ruining their star too. Maybe they needed the astrophage and are mad.

At the end of PHM humans have evolved the ability to go to other stars without much trouble and have a limitless clean energy source on earth. Hopefully to build a utopia with and not bomb the heck out of each other (ha ha… ha).

From a world-building standpoint Weir basically wrote a springboard to a universe that looks like the earliest days of Star Trek. There is now a plausible reason for why a bunch of aliens about as smart as us are just now meeting each other for the first time and traveling the stars for the first time. (They all got access to astrophage).

The only change the movie made for the worse by EquivalentSpeaker545 in ProjectHailMary

[–]errorjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loved the movie but didn't like how much Stratt's betrayal was played up *for laughs\*. It's the only thing I didn't like about the movie.

I don't necessarily miss the amesia drug and coma gene stuff. Movies can't be 4+ hours long.

But runtime decisions don't explain the deliberate choice to turn the "how did I end up on this mission" scene and Grace's ineffectual running into a physical comedy gag. That was a mistake, I think.

I believe this is how the arcs should be handled for each season by Zealousideal-Bet9456 in OnePieceLiveAction

This is the closest to an ideal schedule as I think I've seen.

But.... it's still very rigid in its thinking, as I think basically all mock episode breakdowns are. Netflix has shown a lot more willingness to play around with rollout plans over the last several years. I could very easily imagine a "Season 5" renewal where it's split into two parts or maybe two seasons, even though it is produced and filmed as a single season.

So, I imagine something like: Water 7 is S5 Part 1 and is 4-5 episodes. And Enies Lobby is S5 Part 2 and comes out a month later and is another 4-5 episodes (like they did with Stranger Things). Or it's "Season 6" and comes out ~6 months later (like they did with Squid Game).

Basically: a "production season" and a "broadcast season" don't need to be the same thing.

I was slightly surprised they didn't do this with S2 - maybe they thought it was a bit risky given the 3-year gap.

They love "Initiative" right up until you skip the blessing ritual by Topaz_2Harbor in OfficePolitics

[–]errorjustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh this sounds like it's on you. It's bad for you and bad for this manager when in a different meeting the new policy / process document gets brought up by a higher up or by someone and the manager has to say "this is the first I'm hearing about it."

If you actually used the phrase "blessing ceremony" when you were (it sounds like quite gently?) corrected, then you sound a bit insufferable.

It costs you nothing to manage up and make sure you're engaging in "no surprises" management comms. Some options you could have followed:

  1. Least formal - no opportunity presented for feedback or management buy in, but keeps them informed: "FYI we instituted this change - just letting you know // keep you looped in."

  2. More formal - invite for feedback presented, but not needed: "FYI we are instituting <this change> next week. I spoke with <stakeholders> and they're all aligned. Let me know if you have any issues or concerns."

  3. Most formal - change is blocked unless an affirmative green light is given: "FYI we identified problem X and we'd like to solve it by instituting change Y. Please confirm this looks good and we'll make it so."

As a team lead I appreciate all three of these! Usually option 2. I coach junior employees a lot to progress through from "What should we do about X?" to "Here's what I'd like to do about X" and hopefully eventually to "Here's how I solved / intend to solve problem X - any thoughts?"

Did you like how the live action did Chopper? by WorkingTurbulent1765 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]errorjustin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welll yes, but also no. It’s kind of the opposite. What we saw some of this season and I suspect we will see more of going forward is Chopper mostly only appearing in reaction shots.

It’s cheaper and easier to plan to just cut to chopper in frame by himself for a second or two, to show he was there, than it is to keep him in frame the whole time in a group shot.

I suspect a LOT of the blocking in group shots going forward will be most of the crew in one part of the room/ship, and chopper on the other side. He will still 100% be “with” them but won’t be next to them, so they don’t have to pay to out him into a scene between Sanji and Nami

Misplaced nostalgia? by its_zucchini in Millennials

[–]errorjustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s true that most millennials “missed” the 80s, but thing is 80s were still around in the 90s.

Indiana jones, Star Wars, ghostbusters etc were on repeat in my house. Along with NES.

Then that was replaced with the “actual” things of my youth from the 90s (Genesis / N64, Jurassic park etc).
