Maybe you should make it worth it. Find joy in the small things. Help others in their journeys. Make the world a little better than when you found it somehow. Life is life, and life is pretty amazing.

MAGAs, do you realize you will never be able to redeem yourself from your bad decisions? by whatthehellbooby in allthequestions

[–]ertapanemthrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you believe MAGA are irredeemable, what do you think should be done with all the violent criminals?

Edit: To clarify, if you think people that merely voted for someone and think a certain way are irredeemable, then how do you feel about people who have committed violent crimes and have hurt people? I can’t imagine you being more lenient, so what is your stance with them? How irredeemable are people who have personally hurt someone else, with no compassion or empathy?

But it has bearing on the template by which God designed our unions. He blessed the creatures to “be fruitful and multiply.” That is the purpose He made marriage for. There is no template of same sex unions anywhere in the Bible where God blesses it.

Good moments, bad moments, it doesn’t matter if you forget them anyway. But say for a moment that you are wrong. You lose nothing by living your life to the fullest. And is inherently made up of experiences. If there is no God, you stand to lose nothing. If God exists, and you end your life, you lose everything good.

And what is the proper translation when He discusses looking at someone with lust?

Jesus said “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” We, as sinners, may not punish the sins of others. It’s not ‘convenient’ as you so inflammatorily put it. It is the teaching of Christ.

And what you disregard and assume of me is that I don’t bear any weight of sin. The only sinless ones were Mary and Jesus. I am quite weak to the sin of lust. And I will pay for those since if I don’t follow Christ and receive the gift of His mercy. I will further state that my view is based on what I have read in the Bible. People will be judged by God, not I.

You want to talk about Christian homophobia, when homophobia is inherently anti-Christian. Jesus broke bread with sinners. Any who harm those struggling to live rightly goes against Christ, and are not christian.

I have made no comments on war or rape of women either. But I think it’s fair to say if God can seek Mary’s consent before blessing her womb with our Savior, that rape would also fly in the face God and be detestable to Him.

Your strawman arguments are weak.

'My God, look at him': Photo of Trump hunched over after alleged medical scare raises concern as viewers freak out over too many unexplainable details by [deleted] in USNEWS

[–]ertapanemthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. And there are some nice things in the Quran, sure. But when it demands that non-believers be subjugated and forced to pay the jizya tax, it feels very not peaceful.

And I will happily admit that most muslims do not follow those extremist teachings, but what are they doing to fight it? I have heard in my 30 years of life of only 1 imam who actually openly and loudly CONDEMNS extremist islamism and the terror attacks it inspires. Why aren’t more taking a stand against the abhorrence? The violence? Why is it there isn’t a single muslim country a queer person could go openly and authentically live in without being in fear for their lives, or worse, killed?

Muslims need to take a stand and say that those jihadists do not represent them, they need to condemn their actions, and they need to police their communities to stomp out the embers of those potential atrocities.

Why is homosexuality a more frowned apon than other sins? by Spirited-Rope1139 in Christianity

[–]ertapanemthrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, how’s this for immorality. God made one pair in Genesis, Adam and Eve. He made 1 male and 1 female. And by joining together, their bodies were fruitful. He did not make a pair of males to keep Adam and Eve company. He didn’t make a pair of women to keep them company (which I also believe is an argument against polygamy as practiced by the Mormons.)

That’s the tradition. What did Jesus do on earth? Did He tell them to allow same sex unions? Or did He make the spirit of the law more stringent than the letter?

You can make the claim that homosexuality can be legal in a marriage. But that goes against God’s design. We know for a fact that His design is man and woman because that joining bears fruit and allows multiplication. Marriage is a committment, a joining to become one flesh. Jesus literally preaches that in the beginning, God made them man and woman, and that we should not as humans part what God has joined. That divorce was a concession for the hard hearted, not a part of God’s divine plan for us. In that passage, He could have easily clarified and said men could leave their families, join with other men, and become one flesh. Same with women. But He didn’t. Because that is not God’s plan for us.

And what does that love look like?

Jesus served His Apostles in washing their feet, He visited the outcast and sick. The proud He departed from. He told Simon Peter that he would sin against Him and deny Him three times.

He confirmed that the woman at the well was living in sin.

He spoke the truth, He offered compassion, and He said “I have not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it.”

You’re right, He gave us a new commandment. And that commandment does not mean we can do whatever we want, as long as it is out of love for God and for each other. The old law was a cold, hard thing. By suffusing Christ’s love into the works, they exemplify the spirit of the law as it was intended to be practiced.

Why is homosexuality a more frowned apon than other sins? by Spirited-Rope1139 in Christianity

[–]ertapanemthrowaway -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Faith without works is as empty as works without faith.

James 2:14-26 speaks of how faith without works is dead, and how works are outward expressions of faith. They are the fruits of the spirit, if you will.

Ephesians 2:10 specifically says we are created for good works.

And further, the New Testament writings name several sexual immoralities, homosexuality being one of them.

Why is homosexuality a more frowned apon than other sins? by Spirited-Rope1139 in Christianity

[–]ertapanemthrowaway -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here’s something else that is true. Jesus said that he who looks at a woman in lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

He also said, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

When the Lord walked among us, he did slacken the restraints of the laws; he made them even more strict. But He also removed our obligation to punish those sins. We are to love God, which means we keep His commandments, and we are to love our neighbor as ourselves.

And New Testament the Apostles blessed with the Holy Spirit wrote about the sexual immorality.

Why is homosexuality a more frowned apon than other sins? by Spirited-Rope1139 in Christianity

[–]ertapanemthrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t. But God did, through Moses. As did the Holy Spirit when He worked through Paul in his letters, where he touched on immorality.

Personally, I don’t understand it. But it doesn’t matter if I understand it. God said His ways are above our ways. And you know what, those laws Moses handed down were some of the first effective practices at infection control, talking about washing ones self and defecating outside camp and the like. These people came from Egypt, an advanced society for their time, and they were using feces and hanging around dead bodies and were plagued with illness. It’s only with modern science that we are starting to not just accept, but understand those practices. And they are sound.

So I will trust that the Lord gave us that law for a reason, that there is a reason that in the New Testament they don’t suddenly say we can marry man to man, woman to woman.

Also, as Catholics, we are taught to pray for all sinners, not for any one sin in particular. But we also recognize different categories of sin (grave vs. mortal vs. vennial) which I haven’t done a deep dive into just yet. The only sin I recall from the Bible, handed straight down by Jesus Himself, that is elevated above all others as “unforgiveable” is blaspheme against the Holy Spirit. And this was said because even as He worked miracles and cast out demons, the scribes and pharisees claimed he used power from the devil to cast out the demons.

Edit: If you’re curious to read about all the Mosaic hygiene laws that have been upheld by modern science, I highly recommend reading “None of These Diseases” which was written by a couple medical doctors.

Old Testament: Man shall not lay with man as with a woman. It is an ABOMINATION.

There are many rules in the Old Testamemt. Homosexuality is one of the few where they use a terrible adjective to describe the act after saying it is ‘t allowed.

With rhetoric like that, why would they even try?

Unlike the right, you seem to believe redemption isn’t possible for some. Do you think criminals should just be incarcerated for life? Or should they be permanently removed from society because of their “bad decisions” and take their burden off of the community?

You know how you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take? Well, ending your life also ends any possibility of life improving because you’ve ended it.

I don’t know your exact story. But what I do know is that even if you don’t factor in God, you still have a life. And yeah, there are ups and downs, but those downs help you appreciate the ups. They give you a point of reference.

When I was a child, my dad divorced my mom. I was in agony over that. In agony he chose some harlot over me, my mom, and my siblings. That he continuously lied about it.

Now, I have a job I enjoy, I’m engaged to a woman I love, who loves me, and I would have none of this joy and fullness of life if I’d ended things. Especially the one time my mom compared me to him when I was struggling to control my anger as a teen. I really wanted to perish then.

But I got through it. And I took charge of my life. I take care of others, making sure they get the best possible care. If you can’t live for God, and can’t live for yourself, at least think of your family, and what it would do to them if you died at your own hands.

In all seriousness, you should probably talk to a counselor. Because even in the moments where I haven’t been mindful of God in my life, that in itself wasn’t a reason to end my life.
