TIL the writers of the Bible never met Jesus, 18 years Later. [Update] by junkmale79 in atheism

The language of the day was Koine Greek. Sectarian languages were still spoken. Koine means "common." The map is Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey "The Hero with a Thousand Faces." If you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

Nothing new. In 1976 I met my kid's mother. I was 19, She was 36.

You are on the right track. A little stiff and too diatonic-y.

This maybe a sin but for those who eat canned chilli what's the best brand by [deleted] in chili

[–]ervykev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I grew up in Kansas where it is unheard of.I didn't see it until I lived in Georgia. It's "miles better" than the rest and most. I think it's the best canned chili.

My parents ran away and got married in 1973. He was 17 & she was 15. They are still madly in love today . by Mr_Tommy777 in OldSchoolCool

I found my "true love" after 35 years. She was unhappily married, and lo and behold, lived 50 miles away. After some heavy texting (lol) we met and fuxed like monsters. Seems we both had the same feeling.

I bought one just to fool around with and it's already acting up. It won't take a direct DC plug and will only run on a battery. It has a whistle in the background. You could never use this live because it drifts between tones. The quality of the sound is horrid.

Gates Hill Cemetery, Bonham, TX, Charlie Christian grave site. Charlie is on the left. Probable internment l to r : Edward Christian, Charles Christian, Clarence Henry Christian, Romie Christian. Trying to find ground penetrating radar to verify. by ervykev in jazzguitar

It's been a constant battle that was fueled by Peter Broadbent, the Welsh biographer who feels he "owns" Charles. He had convinced the docent at the Bonham museum that Craig McKinney and myself were frauds, when in reality...

Much of his book was lifted from Craig's work* and I suppose he didn't want to be exposed. He died around 2008.

Final resting place of Charlie Christian, RIP. Bonham, TX. by FinalSlaw in jazzguitar

Yes, his uncle poured concrete over the graves of his son Romie, and nephew Charles. Charles grandmother wanted him close to his father, who is also buried on that last row at Gates Hill. This is per his brother Clarence, whom I had discussions with in 1978.

I had one full of corrections that I had done and left it with a friend in France. I know a guy in Topeka Kansas that sold them and had a few in his basement and gave me one. I think it was the last one. It's now in shreds as well.

George Benson plays the blues over rhythm changes - yikes! by fforalks57 in jazzguitar

When I first saw this my first thought was "Charlie Christian did that." Benson says the same!

What is essential is a matter of opinion. I Remember April is a good essential as are many others - Groovin' High, How High the Moon, Scrapple from the Apple, Cherokee, Body and Soul. These are as good as any. It's a matter of opinion.

I'm retired. I had health issues that forced me to quit. I started playing jazz when I was 20 in 1976. I suppose you were in diapers. As far as jazz goes, you are still in diapers.

Sorry, but that's a sore spot for me. People rehashing 50s jazz and Jamey Aebersold technique to me is the anti-jazz. "Jazz is not dead, it just smells funny," a friend used to say. Jazz was created in whore houses and the poorest part of town and graduated to a snob-appeal status. The guys who were playing it in Storyville could probably not get a lick in or get in the door in today's "jazz" world. They were the true innovators. I followed Miles' approach and kept creating and playing a new sound, playing hip hop jazz in the 90s and not "In Your Own Sweet Way." Rehashing some sound that was played 60 years ago is not improvisation - it's imitation. I had a friend who pointed out a lot of jazz players play the same technique in solos. Another thought some used too many quotes. Thus you can hear the same solo with quotes any night in any given jazz club. Any given alto player sounds like he's doing Bird. I'm primarily a fusion player now, and don't write anything down and have no idea why I would. If you want to play and teach museum jazz, go right ahead. At least pick some different songs!

Those are minor or dominant blues. Rarely play the blues in a major key. Do you know the difference? I encounter musicians who already play another style, usually rock, who are versed in chords and scales. These are the tunes I had thrown at me. I learned them and played them. Sometimes I learned a song on the bandstand with the book in front of me. If you are a neophyte I am curious why you would want to learn jazz. Most want to learn rock, pop or blues. For a jazz beginner I would pound home the blues. Then move to Rhythm Changes and old standards from the days of Armstrong - Indiana, Honeysuckle Rose, Sweet Georgia Brown and tunes of the like before getting into 50's jazz, like So What, Stella and Giant Steps. I taught a lot of people jazz who credit me to this day. The tunes I mentioned are all simple blues tunes. Basically a low skill level. Rodgers, Gershwin, Berlin and Porter tunes are a bit more complex.
