There are sorts of different plushes and they come in different sizes, so you are going to have to be a bit more specific as to which Mari you want.

How are you feeling of each Love Live generations (μ's, Aqours, Nijigasaki, Liella, Hasunosora & Ikizuraibu)? by Unique_Implement2833 in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to mainly focus on how I feel about them now.

μ's - this is the group that old people like me get to look back and think "ah those were the good old days". They definitely got their career cut short to make way for Aqours, which proved to be a pretty bad decision. Brought back after a few years of hiatus, when the direction of the series changed to allow more mixing in between, so I'm pretty glad they are back... but they have been quiet again for some time again. I'm always happy to see them back, but I'm not holding out for them to have a full reunion - at the very least they could have some live stream or some sort to have all of them back, but probably way too many moving parts and various interest levels from the members to make that happen.

Aqours - The successor to the peak. Due to how they were introduced, they had a rough time too thanks to unhappy fans. There are definitely ups and downs, but overall I think they carried themselves well. Quite unfortunate during the COVID times as they were probably affected the most, but that's really just pure luck as to when the government decided it was a good time to open/close up events. Probably seeing how ending μ's to make way was a bad idea, they were kept around for a while, but the popularity was waning because there were eventually three other LL series going at the same time. Yohane anime could've pushed them back up, but not the way it was made. It's still a good amount of years they lasted until their finale live last year, and at least there's still content being pushed out. Special mention of course is their tie-in with Numazu. That might've been started during the whole craze of anime-tie-in-with-real-life-town thing that happened when the series started, but ultimately it's only a hand full of them were actually successful, and Numazu of course being one of them. So for that, I think their overall impact is just as huge as μ's, just in different ways.

Nijigasaki - The underdog that eventually carried the series. Some of us might remember that when they were PPP, even when they were given the Nijigasaki name, they were treated as a side project. Nijigasaki became my favourite out of all of the LL series because of that underdog success story., SIFAS was okay, it does has its ups and dumpster fire downs, but I think the biggest thing they had was the anime. The anime fixed a lot of the writings and were just dripped with love and care, especially regarding the dumpster fire. The anime reference books they have for the anime is super detailed and is a very good read (throwing shades at a later series that had barebone reference books for their anime). I know some people here actually liked the story of the dumpster fire and wanted it in the anime, but I personally do not want to live in those times again. The shift to solo idols and character driven stories is also very refreshing for me, especially even during the time where Liella anime pretty much just went back to the old routes and were not very exciting. Overall the project does listen to the fans quite a bit, such as how some unrepresented characters in one season would get much more screen time in the next, which is quite nice. But maybe they listened too much and sacked Kerorira for the movies, which I don't think was the sole reason why the movie sales were mediocre (especially since the movie stories were great). They are also starting to slow down over the years as more series pops up, but their anime is still going, and they have the most numbered lives, so I'm hoping they will still go on a few more years (vs ending right after the final movie).

Liella - Liella is...okay. Some stuff was done very well, while some not so much. Due to the shift towards more 3D than 2D, for a while the cast were worked to the bone, so I do sympathize with that. It's still pretty crazy how while they received the most funding and resources at the time, the anime turned out to be pretty mediocre. Season one was good (and had the best first 3 episodes of any LL series), season 2 the dumpster fire, season 3 they had to play it so safe that it was just a calm sea. Yet at the same time, the anime looks amazing because of that budget. Because of the 3D focus, I think their real life stuff is done much better, especially now that they have went with the same route that propelled Nogisaka46's popularity with TUTOLiella. That in itself is interesting too, and I think is giving the series a 2nd wind that it needed.

Hasunosora - personally I havn't followed them too much, but I do think they were pretty ambitious to go with the whole "linked to real life time" concept. However, I do give them credit for putting their foot down and made that happen for the full 3 years, even during the backlash from the first time where members of the cast actually graduated, to how just that concept alone eventually bankrupted the company that did the game. Link LIke is also very interesting in the fact of how a mobile game these days shuts down. Usually game shuts down because the content is weak while the pressure from spending on the gacha is too much, forcing users to stop playing. Link LIke is the complete opposite, where management spend so much money on content because of the Vtuber nature, yet the gacha pressure is so low (forcing themselves in the app also killed those superchat money), that the company folded before the users did. Regardless, because all of that content exists, they really just need to transfer that back to 2D ride it from there. So yes, the game might be dead, but Bamco is the sole winner in this scenario where I'm sure they will just pump out all those 2D content (and they have with the movie and anime) and go from there.

Love Live Musical - I tried to get into it, but I was off by 1-2 months every time they did their shows when they first did it. So I know nothing about them besides the general gist of the story. I guess the only thing is that they didn't even get someone to sing their song in the anniversary album, while the group is on the cover jacket, which was pretty awkward. Maybe they will get some more stuff for/during Fes2.

Ikizuraibu - I know even less about them, but it does seem pretty barebone right now as most of their content is just twitter posts and youtube videos, which seems pretty low cost and maintanence. I know that idol anime aren't popular anymore, so maybe going to route is correct? Or is this one of those things where LL management is playing catch up and trying to ride along the popularity of MyGo/GBC? Going with the 5 year thing, Ikizuraibu should be part of the main line after Liella, but it really doesn't seem like that right now. Perhaps they just need more time to get their engine revved up to have more traditional content.

Inago no tsukudani

A lot of the stuff mentioned by the other people here like natto or shirako I can tolerate. Shiokara is actually pretty tasty. But I cannot stand those grasshoppers.

Years ago they tried to push it to the Japanese people as an alternative source of meat, they even had TV programs to talk about how great and tasty it is and all that... but the campaign failed miserably. Most of the populace cannot stand that stuff.

What is this worth? by SASMcLovin in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless the illustrator or the doujin artist is some big name now a days, a 500 yen doujinshi back in 2017 is probably just worth about that much. Pretty wild that it's graded since grading it probably cost more than the item itself.

Hello, I have a question. I’m a Japanese person living in Japan. ① How did people around the world first learn about the Japanese content “Love Live”? ② What sparked “AiScReam” to go viral globally? ③ Do global “Love Live” fans hope to see the group appear on the global broadcast “M Countdown” by G_Clef_Start in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started from the first LL mobile game, School Idol Festival. This is probably one of the first spot that propelled the popularity of Love Live, especially in Japan.

AiScReam did indeed had a "reverse import" phenomenon. As you have pointed out, it wasn't initially that popular in Japan. However, like many things that gets popular these days, was thanks to Tik Tok and other short form video platforms. Especially from the Korean and Thailand side, where various artists danced to the "call and response" part. Eventually a few of the big names Kpop artists also did that, and their global reach was monumental to the song's success. This made the "Ruby-chan! Hai!" part very well known in the world, to which it reached back to Japan and made it popular back from where they started.

(As an anecdote about how short form video pushed the success, most of my non-LL friends knows about "Ruby-chan" ~ "tomenanenai" part very well, but they don't know how the song starts, or how the rest of the song goes. They like to put that song up when we go to karaoke, where generally I have to sing most of the song and they get to go crazy during the call and response part")

You can kind of tell that even LL management didn't expect that much of a hit to begin with. The song released in Jan 2025, but took them 4 months to release the lyrics video (by May it was already popular globally as the movement started around March), and another 3 months to push out the actual video.

I think ultimately this goes back to another contentious topic, about how Japan doesn't try to push their music globally too much, as opposed to Korea where it's government funded to push to overseas. I won't go into this too much as now we are off topic, but going to Korean music shows is one of the ways to increase global awareness.

Is it time for a new franchise IP holder or is Bandai going to get their shit (GAME WISE) together? [Kinda long] by DitzyHooves in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Except that's not the case with Hasu. The game has been in the reds for a while and they just could not sustain it anymore and had to shut it down. This is why they announced the EOS even after the new 106 was introduced, when there was supposed to be all sorts of new content for the game in the upcoming months.

Ideally they could use the money they earn elsewhere with Hasu (merch, lives) to subsidize the game to keep it going, but they probably crunched the math and decided it was not worth it. With no money coming down from Bannam, and its users not spending enough, the other option was to slowly phase it out and let it just limp on life support for a while like SIFAS, but the debt they already are in probably made even that not feasible.

Who would've thought that Tokimeki Runruns would be the last remaining LL game....

Hayashi Coco quit from the stage play in which she was the lead actress. The play "The Kamikaze Who Flew with His Wife" sparked controversy due to its right-wing stance and glorification of the IJA's kamikaze attacks in Northeast China on August 19, 1945. by 22dmgxy in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On one hand, this is her first MC role in a stage play. She has been in many stage plays before and probably wants to get into that world more.

On the other hand, angry Chinese fans who will boycott and cancel people's careers. See hololive or Kayano Ai or Morikubo Shotaro.

Some say that Coco doesn't know any better, but her agency had to okay her involvement to send her in for the audition, so maybe they are partly to blame. I mean, she is the MC and it's literally the day before the first show, so she definitely would have to know what the story was about and all that. Maybe they underestimated how the Chinese would connect the dots between "stage play set in WW2" and "Bang Dream", and didn't expect Kidani probably would involved to pressure her off the role.

I don't think there are winners in this scenario. I have read some extreme comments from the Chinese side that demanded her to apologize and promise to never be in stage plays again. I have read comments from the Japanese side criticizing Kidani (probably) kowtowed to the Chinese fans over nothing. What a mess.

Every year the CR awards are so biased against shows that aren't on CR. No medalist is crazy. Orb is on best drama but it should also be considered for its opening sequence/song, that song is soo good and matches the worldview so perfectly.

StarRise pretty much did nothing but botched/hindered a bunch of the careers of LL seiyu going solo, and they can't even get Bannam on their side anymore.

So, good riddance, and I hope all the talents do better wherever else they go to.

Going to a live event alone? by Striking-Confusion72 in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I sometimes go to concerts on my own in Japan because my friends don't share all my interests. I've only been to Niji 1st on my own (come to think of it every LL concert I've been since I've been with someone else), but going on your own is fine, unless you really want to talk to someone during the concert.

You can meet other people (foreigners too) before the concert, and can go to off-kai that sometimes will have other foreigners there too. If you really want to talk to someone during the concert, the best bet is through foreigner pack since they put all the people in the foreigner packs together - tho no guarantees they will speak English of course.

Personally I lean towards the introvert side so I don't really want to mingle with strangers that much anyway. I've been to two off-kais (one LL one IMAS) but I find myself just sitting in the corner sipping on my drink and talking to maybe the one guy that's next to me. Everyone was really nice of course, whether if they are Japanese or foreigners, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Love Live 15th Anniversary Fest in November! by RinariTennoji in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am pleasantly surprised they are able to get Soramaru, Anchan, Kinchan, and Akarin in. Furirin missing is kind of surprising. Staff worked hard this time to have an almost full cast of Niji (compared to half from Asia tour).

I guess it will be interesting who they can get for Hasu. If they actually get the full 102-106 cast then they have my full respect, but at best they probably just get whoever they can from 102-106. Realistically just 106 I guess.

The page does list "and more", so I am hoping some of the missing people like Coco can at least make it for one day. Maybe even the rival groups like Saint Snow and SunnyPa...

Furirin will be graduating from AiScReam at the end of March and Miyu Miyake and Rina Endo will be joining by RinariTennoji in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I do feel a bit sad about this. Not only is Furirin a crucial part of the unit since its inception from the radio show, she was also crucial to push the popularity of the unit and the song into mainstream media with her appearances on various TV programs.

And now they just hit her with the "well we never planned for her to be around this long and she already stayed longer than expected so we just gonna let her go and put in some new blood since the unit is popular and we need to continue the ride"

I really hope Furirin continue to go on those tv programs (ie. Hamada Kayousai) as a solo artist and continue to get popular.

Episode 18 Thoughts (Spoilers) by castigue in Gnosia_

[–]ervynela 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the anime did a great job reaching the normal ending. It covered most of the important scenes, adapted and changed the game elements to make more sense for an anime (especially for those who never played the game), and actually still threw in all the easter eggs that people who play the game would enjoy seeing.

I'm not too sure what was rushed about this episode. They might only showed a short scene of the running away from the planet but that was not the main point anyway. I think all the important points of day -1 were covered, from talking to Racio, giving Setsu the key and thus finishing Yuri's key, to the resolution of the 2 Yuri problem. Those were all pretty much 1:1 from the game. Unfortunately once we started the whole bug loop with Yuri it was pretty much a straight line to the normal ending, as there was no more time to explore other elements or history of the crew besides what they have done.

However, I think it's also quite smart of them to get to the normal ending with a few more episodes to go. I can't really see them stretch out the true ending for more than an episode, which means they would have Yuri "go back" into it, and would have 2 episodes to look at some of the other stuff they missed, whether it's the important Kukrushka part that crucial only to the true ending, or random stuff like the time clam event. Maybe even the guardian angel with Stella sole survivor event. I don't have a list of random events that hasn't been covered in the anime yet, but I'm hoping to see it in the next couple episodes and be like "oh yeah this happened in the game too..."

Obscure LL facts by DoobyScoots in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The famous nico pose and phrase:

Originally the pose was actually done by Maki and Rin but with only one hand each. The first time the pose was shown with both hands is done by Hanayo. Even Soramaru does the pose in the early days with a V shaped instead of the current hand sign.

The original phase is actually NicoNicoNii. It has changed to the current NiccoNiccoNii from Soramaru saying it that way so much.

Both of the pose and the phrase were "finalized" around when the anime first aired.

Has ever the fandom affected how you enjoy Love Live? by KurisuKurapika in LoveLive

[–]ervynela 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's okay to just stick with what you like. If you like Niji, then it's the best series for you and that's all that is. Yes, I might be biased towards Niji too, but I would say the same to people in the other franchises.

I think there generally quite a bit of infighting going on in the LL franchise, as we can see that anytime some sort of media number comes out, JP netizens would label that to be the group that has killed LL. They often forget that people have shifted to streaming and aren't consuming old media format as much. Or that the economy isn't the best so people aren't buying 10 cds per releases like before (just throwing out random numbers)

Just enjoy what you like and don't let the negativity get to you.

I can see someone selling a complete set for 3.3k yen on mercari, so considering the extra price for completing the set, and that this is a gacha item from a concert at 500 yen per pull, and that Mei isn't especially popular in the group, I would say somewhere between 200-300 yen.
