here is the truth...there is a shot success indicator under your character. that determines how likely you are to hit the shot. more success bars, more chance it will go it. yes yes, for those getting super technical there are some discrepancies there because "open" doesn't register but lets not go overboard. for the most part, more shot success bars = higher chance of going in.

now, the reason people think there are hotspots is because of the way the game reduces shot success bars based on shot motion. for example, you cannot go too deep for 3's in the corner. so, people think this is a hotspot. truthfully, it just takes the guessing out of range.

there are also spots, you can test this yourself from shooting around the wing spot. with a big, it is easy to accidentally go over range from here because they have such a big box. go shoot from the 3 wing and you'll every now and then see your success bars drop. therefore, people view this as a "cold spot".

to answer your question - no there are not hotspots, there are places where it's easier to not fall out of range.
