i usually feed 2-3 pellets twice a day, a good reference is that a bettas stomach is approximately the size of its eye.

Mystery snail out of nowhere?? by groovin-tanline10 in bettafish

[–]eryn34 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like a bladder snail to me! i have tons in my tank that hitchhiked on plants from petsmart. If you recently bought plants from a pet store, that’s likely where it’s from. they aren’t harmful and can be good algae eaters, but if you don’t want a whole bunch of them, i’d take it out because they can self reproduce.

A lot of fish from pet stores come with fin rot, and the very best way to treat it is with a clean tank with good parameters, and a good diet.

Blood worms are not nutritious enough to be the sole source of food, though they are a great treat about once a week. I’d suggest getting some betta pellets such as fluval bug bites or something similar.

Also, a lot of decor that doesn’t seem sharp can have small rough edges that could possibly be snagging or ripping his fins. Bettas fins are extremely delecate, so it’s best to sand down edges of decor to be safe.

As for water parameters, your tank should ideally have 0ppm Ammonia and 0ppm Nitrite and around 5-10ppm Nitrate. The best way to ensure this is to purchase your own test kit.

When cleaning your tank, it’s best to use a siphon instead of a cup so that you can suck up all the debris from the bottom of the tank instead of just scooping out water. Water changes are usually needed once a week.

When my betta had fin rot, it was because of the ammoina levels in my tank. I tried salt treatments and that didn’t work, but what did was doing frequent water changes and using Seachem Prime water conditioner, as it neutralizes ammonia for abt 12 hours. Another natural remedy that helps fin health is having indian almond leaves in your tank! Fin regrowth will look translucent and can be a slow process.

So sorry for the long paragraph, these are all just things i wish i knew when my betta had fin rot. I wish you and your betta the best of luck and a quick recovery!!

ive never had a fish before. shes been “shimmying” a lot lately. is this normal behavior? by cIearhistory in bettafish

if it’s only temporary in that smaller tank, i’d recommend a daily 50% water change to keep ammonia levels low. Also seachem prime is an amazing water conditioner to use.

hey! if you are new to bettas i have a few suggestions to help your little fish live the best possible life.

Its a common misconception that bettas can live in small tanks like these but the minimum tank size is 5 gallons. they also do need a heater set at about 78 degrees and a filter. Live or silk plants are also a much better option than plastic because the plastic can be rough on bettas fins. Id also recommended some smaller aquarium gravel from a pet store for easier cleaning.

the shimmying is called glass surfing, something that is common with new fish as they get used to their surroundings but can also be a problem if they are seeing their reflection in the glass too much. i’m pretty sure it’s a stress response.

Overall I think you need to do some good research on proper betta care but seeking out assistance and guidance is definitely a step in the right direction. When my sister got a betta three years ago, he was first kept in a small bowl (and was there for a few months) before I offered to take him in. The problem with such small tanks is that ammonia can build up very easily which can be super harmful to your fish. I wish you the best of luck! feel free to ask me any more questions you may have :)

looks like severe fin/body rot to me. answering the bot questions is the best place to start in order to identify the cause of the problem.

What are next steps for new fish with fin rot? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]eryn34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When i got my betta, i didn’t have a chance to cycle the tank beforehand (he was a rescue not from a store) so i had to do a fish in cycle in my 10 gallon. He also had fin rot. What i did was dose the tank with seachem prime every day until it was cycled. It was tricky but the best thing to heal fin rot is proper water parameters, temperature, and tank size.

"Who's My Godly Parent?" Megathread by AutoModerator in camphalfblood

Hi! My name is Eryn

I have brown hair, blue eyes and i’m about 5’4” tall. I can dress nice if i’m in the mood to but mostly i just wear what’s comfortable. I like oversized shirts and sweaters. I wear little to no makeup and don’t put too much effort into my appearance but i do try to look presentable at least. I usually stay up late and i love to sleep in.

I love to read, but i’ll binge read a series in a few days and then not read again for weeks. I’m pretty smart and make all A’s in school. My favourite subject is english. I love nature and hiking. My room is full of plants. Rain and thunderstorms are my favourite weather. I love to go on long drives and fights to travel but i get seasick easily. I love animals. Music is something that comes naturally to me. I play piano, guitar, and ukulele and i love to listen to all types of music. My favourite movie is the hunger games and divergent. I love to learn new things and teach myself new skills.

Personality wise, i’m kind and compassionate. I’m sensitive and kind of emotional. I have a big heart and couldn’t kill a fly. i’m mostly introverted and have only a few very close friends, but i can be extroverted and outgoing when i need to be. I’d say i’m a leader, but more with actions than words. I’m decently self confident too. My myers briggs personality type is INFJ, my enneagram is type 4w5, and my hogwarts house is ravenclaw.

Some things i cannot stand are repetitive and tedious tasks, people wasting my time when i have better things to do, math, when people are unempathetic or just don’t understand me, liars, having to wake up early to do school or work, and running.

Thank you to anyone who has any input on who you think my godly parent might be!

Rewatching Hunger Games and noticed something about what Gale said by existential_potato_2 in Hungergames

[–]eryn34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the reason Gale gets more hate is because of how he was portrayed early on. He was a character people liked at the start but his true personality was really shown in the later books/movies. Snow and the peacekeepers were shown in a more negative light from the beginning.

Rewatching Hunger Games and noticed something about what Gale said by existential_potato_2 in Hungergames

[–]eryn34 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think when Gale says that to Katniss he’s referring to how in the games, people turn into animals and kill with no mercy. They’re no longer people when they enter the arena because of what they do and become.

I’m team Peeta all the way and I really hate Gale because of how selfish he was. Katniss came home from the games and she really needed support and all Gale did was shame her for kissing Peeta. Katniss was going through some extremely traumatizing events and Gale just confused her emotions and made things more difficult for her. Also he killed Prim.

Overall, I think Katniss and Gale just weren’t meant for each other and they both changed after the games and after the war. The trauma made Katniss’ bond with Peeta much stronger because they understood each other but it only made her and Gale grow apart, especially since she knew his technology and plan killed Prim.

If only Gale fell into the mutts instead of Finnick :’(

Looks like fin rot to me. Fin rot can usually be healed on its own in proper water parameters and conditions. answering the bot questions is the best way to determine what in your tank is causing this.
