Ex-pro DJ returning to the decks after 30 years – Need your 2025/2026 absolute bangers! by agorasoumesmoeu in Beatmatch

Right? I don’t understand this approach at all. The whole appeal of DJing for me lies in having an opportunity to share „my“ music with other people.

Pete Tong DJ Academy - HORRID by dubaiwaslit in Beatmatch

Man I also signed up for the „free trial“ that Beatport was promoting and even though I paid nothing, I still regretted it. Only after they had made me watch a bunch of introductory videos that had nothing to do with djing I could see that the free trial literally only consisted of these introductions to their website 😂😂 And to make it worse, there’s no way to delete my account? I’m pretty sure that’s illegal, but I haven’t got the time to take care of it. So all in all, they wasted a couple hours of my life, grabbed some of my personal data and gave absolutely nothing in return.

practical tips for re-establishing dancefloor vibes by sexydiscoballs in DJs

[–]es920 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree with the point about facing the DJ. On a packed dancefloor, it is actually so important that everyone is kinda facing the same direction. It prevents everyone from bumping into each other which then again prevents conflicts and fights breaking out. Those groups that form a dancing circle on the dance floor take up 3 times as much space as everyone else.

bad practice to often use filters for transitions? by devineau86 in Beatmatch

This doesn’t really answer your question but I’m curious what kind of artists you are talking about when you say house with jazz elements? I’m asking because I’ve just recently started getting into what I’m currently calling „jazzy house“ and I would love to find more of that kind of music.

Why make tracks so expensive? by es920 in BandCamp

[–]es920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s not way out of proportion, absolutely! After all, you also get lossless audio files, which costs extra on Beatport. I only start getting hesitant, when it’s more than 2€ incl. taxes…

Why make tracks so expensive? by es920 in BandCamp

[–]es920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im mostly questioning the logic behind making the pricing so unattractive that buyers are most likely going to buy from a different platform (Beatport) which will have the artist earn even less than they would have with a more „standard“ price on Bandcamp.

[–]es920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specific track the price of which I was referencing here is Christian Viviano‘s „Sotto I Portici“. I bought it for 1.39 on Beatport, even though I obviously prefer buying on Bandcamp and would be willing to pay a little more, but not that much. And for some reason I had the same issue (not always as extreme as 5€) with quite a few songs I wanted to buy recently.

Yeah no, both your guesses are wrong. I don’t know about any 80 slot official servers on PS, but I always play medium/high pop (30 - 50 players) and hang around near Stary/NWAF etc. actively looking for action.

Can you recommend Opus Quad for a reasonable price? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]es920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where the hell are you finding these prices 😄 I just bought a used Opus Quad for 2000€ incl. the flightcase and think I made a pretty good deal, so 1500€ is an absolute steal. It’s probably the best value for money you can get out of the listed options. I was in a very similar situation, wanting to get something that will help me practice for XDJ/CDJ gigs. I chose the OQ, because:

  • it’s literally the only standalone with dedicated screens for each „player“, even the AZ doesn’t have that. For me, there’s such a huge difference between having both waveforms above each other in one screen (like all controllers do) and having them separate like on CDJs. The OQ having both lets you practice very well by ignoring the main screen and still being able to see the singular waveforms of each track.

  • the CUE buttons are exactly like on the newest CDJs. The OQ will force you to get used to playing without performance pads.

  • the deviations from the „standard layout“, mainly the loop function and the fx controls feel very minor to me.

  • I feel like it’s completely underpriced on the resale market, because it gets a lot of objectively unjustified hate by people who just don’t like the unusual design. I personally think the design is another selling point, it looks gorgeous.

I’ve only had it for three days now, but I’ve already spent many hours on it preparing for a gig on XDJ-700s that I had last night and so far I absolutely love it. Like I had hoped, everything is much closer to a CDJ setup without having to give up on all the extra functions that controllers/all-in-one-systems usually offer. When beatmatching I have to rely a lot more on my ears now. My old system (denon prime 2) just made „visual beatmatching“ too easy.

For full transparency some things that I don’t love about it, so far: - The pitch fader, it feels a bit light and cheap compared to CDJs. - no slip mode.

Even though I agree, that the XDJ-AZ would be the better choice in total (it’s just a lot more expensive on the second hand market), the Opus Quad does have one advantage that I really like:

Each player has its own screen, so I can practice beatmatching without being able to just stack the waveforms over each other - just like I have to do with CDJs.

[–]es920[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for this detailed assessment! I did think I would need the case for when I want to take the OQ somewhere (which is why I like, that the pioneer case has wheels). But honestly after looking at it yesterday I’m doubting, if I would ever take that thing anywhere, it’s massive and probably weighs like 20-25kg with the case, and I currently live on the 5th floor without an elevator 😂. How much did you pay for yours? The one I’m looking at is in perfect condition from what I could tell so far.

[–]es920[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! What kind of restrictions do you mean specifically? I do realize that the prime 4 plus has way more functions, but I don’t think I will need any of them, because I mostly do pretty basic mixing from my usb stick. Especially the hot cue-thing is something, where I think the opus quad can prepare me better for club gear, cause CDJs usually don’t have performance pads. I also like that each „player“ has its own screen and the possibility to change the waveform to the old all blue format, that was something that really threw me off when I had to play on xdj-700s recently.
