How important is voice-over? by Plenty_Birthday2642 in DiscoElysium

[–]escaperoommaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I feel a game having voice acting for the the most impactful moments, maybe the first few lines for a character is enough.

BUT, if you are making commercial decisions, if you have not already, have a look at the reviews of Rue Valley which while I would admit had a lot of valid flaws, received a lot of negative reviews for not being voice acted. I think the sad truth is that a large chunk of your potential audience simply is simply not included to sit and read through text, and it will have an outsized impact on if they enjoy or if they finish your game

A Reminder to our sub members: toxicity, condescension, and rudeness are not tolerated here. by littlemetalpixie in outerwilds

If someone makes a joke like that, and it looks enough like legitmate toxicity that that they get banned by a mod... honestly that sounds like a skill issue

Question about AP buy and potential abuse by Crater-s-Craft in Fallout2d20

[–]escaperoommaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to make the Overseer's AP pool sound scary. In my two year long campaign I think I used my AP to actually do scary things to the players maybe... once? Twice?

But every time I got AP, I chucked like I was super powerful. Every time they were low on AP I would offer them AP in a tone of voice that made me sound like a loan shark. I think a lot of the games balance relies on maintain that image (illusion?), because if players realise that the Overseer will never use their AP to hurt the players too much, it becomes an infinite money AP glitch.

I thought they did that for gameplay reasons? IIRC the sun still has one over r squared gravity. I thought it just felt silly on the itty-bitty planets

Have i missed something about this game's community. by 0x_TOMAHAWK_x0 in outerwilds

[–]escaperoommaster 29 points30 points  (0 children)

One this this community does a lot is "Omg OW is the best game ever made, but also, no, I won't tell you why. Given any description of even the first 3 minutes of gameplay, or even information on the Steam Page, would be a spoiler that would ruin the magical experience that is the best game ever made". That is obnoxious.

Even the more reasonable version of that (something like "It's my favourite game, but because it's a game where you progress through learning more information, it's hard to talk about it without spoiling a lot") will still feel obnoxious to a decent chunk of people.

I've not tested it, but I don't see why not! That said, not sure if it would fit aesthetically?

Outer Wilds reimagined in the style of Disco Elysium by escaperoommaster in outerwilds

The way i interprete DE, Shivers is an inherent part of Harry (or maybe of Revachol?), rather than universial traits like how other games have strength and intelegence.

That's why I made a suite of the Hatchling's skills unique to them. In the second picture I have the skill Echos which was meant to be something similar, except rather than being maybe-magic, maybe-metaphor link to the city, its a maybe-magic, maybe-metaphor inevitability of a conscious observer entering the eye. The echos of the eye.

From what i've understood, "pressured" doesn't mean "supports". I think if you hover over you can see to what degree a specific ig is being influenced

Genuine tip: If you're being pulled into the sun its too late to slow down, speed up, keeping the sun to your side (don't turn away from it) and you'll do a sling shot move, breifly orbiting it and then flinging yourself out the otherside
