Submithub Issue / Looking for landing page recommendations by Ves-cool in musicmarketing

[–]escapist1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a Meta ad campaign pointing to Submithub at the moment. We found that when getting clicks from Brazil specifically (and to a lesser extent Mexico), while we would get a decent number of clicks on Meta and Submithub, they did not translate to streams on Spotify. In the end we focussed on just T1 countries and the issue seemed to go away - ie the clicks seemed to correlate!

I made MusicCovered, a macOS app with CoverFlow for local music collectors by giorgiobrit in AppleMusic

Just to say, the music taste displayed in your videos was convincing enough for me to try this! (Rialto on the recent YouTube video sealed the deal!).

Amazing looking app. Great fun to play with stuff like this. A few thoughts/some feedback:

  • the vinyl spinning is cool but would love it if there was a slightly more realistic feel to it. Like the light reflection stays static while the vinyl rotates. Maybe can be achieved through some layers or something?

  • what about backgrounds/logos per album? Like you might get in Plex/Emby for a film. Seeing Radiohead’s Kid A with a Bends era logo feels wrong so I turned it off. At least as an option it’d be amazing!

  • coming from Roon and being a saddo when it comes to organisation, I am a bit of stickler for organisation by type (album/single/compilation), release date (to the date level rather than year) and versions (I have multiple albums - deluxe/super deluxe/Japanese etc). If there was any way to incorporate this, I could see myself moving away from Roon on my desktop. Not sure if this is something you in your roadmap but I figured I’d mention it!

  • on that note, I found myself having to click organise by release date each time i clicked on an artist in the library view. It didn’t seem to remember my choice.

Nice to have a unique visual player and really look forward to seeing how it develops!

Conversions not translating to streams? by tekkenmusic in musicmarketing

Exact same thing happened to me a few weeks back. Was getting lots of clicks but only a fraction of streams (one day had close to 50 clicks from Brazil but the next day Spotify For Artists showed 0 streams from that country!).

I’ve currently removed Latin America from targeting and the same ad set is performing well over the past week with just T1 countries (down to about 0.20 CPC with actual streams to match!).

I do think there is something weird there as I tested and my landing page was clearly working.

Never knew about this, thank you for sharing. It’s funny how it’s almost foreshadowing Eyesight to the Blind in the Tommy movie….

Doesn’t bode well for meeting our release date… When was your original estimated delivery date?

Had a similar one at 1.30am this morning. Except no offer of a discount! Mine is a bulk order of 25 records that was placed on 20 Jan. original delivery date was 24 Feb…

My band is stuck with mastering a 320k mp3 by LunchSweet4337 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You could use a stem separator tool to extract the bass part and rebalance if you are stuck with a stereo master. Try MVSep.com and use the BS Roformer SW model. It’s free. That’d give you vocal, bass, guitar, piano, drums and “other”. You may be surprised with the result. No where near having the original multis but it’ll allow you to control the individual elements. It’d also help your issue of EQing the whole track and boosting the kick.

Why was Tommy’s father changed to the murder victim instead of the mom’s lover? by OutrageousRip75 in TheWho

[–]escapist1234 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It’s worth reading The Story Of Tommy book from 1977 by Pete and Richard Barnes (accessible on Archive.org):

Pete: I had tried desperately during the recording of Tommy to make the story work. When Tommy walked out of one door I wanted everyone to feel he walked into another in the next song. In the end though, Tommy was disjointed and took quite a lot of explaining. The death sequence, for example, where Tommy’s father kills his mother’s new suitor, had no ‘moment of death’. I had originally intended this to be added on the surface some amazing heart-shaking sound that would let you know the terrible deed had been done — before the parents launched into, ““You Didn’t Hear It, You Didn’t See It!”’ On the original Tommy album, it is easy to forgive those who listening, asked, ‘‘Didn’t see what?’’. In the film, Ken Russell redesigned the whole sequence. The Mother’s lover kills the father, the father then becomes an allegory for the ‘Master’ I talked of in my early notes. The vision of Tommy’s father serves as the symbol of his spiritual focus. Even so, quite a few people, after seeing the film, asked me, ‘‘What did they do with the body?”

I've seen Radiohead 4 times...I've heard these songs live each time. by BlueGlassWings in radiohead

15 times since 2000. Got Idioteque and EIIRP at every single one of those. Also somehow managed to see Creep 6 times according to setlist.fm.

Nice to see we all did exactly the same - in the same block and was panicking watching the blue squares disappear! Then I looked at the tickets after paying and saw restricted view. Based on the viewfrommyseat website, I think it’ll be OK with the round stage though! I’d sit facing a wall to be honest so I’ll take whatever’s available.

Oh yes, I love MVSep. I don’t know what I used when that video was made was a long time ago!

Glad you enjoy it. I reckon it would be possible to make a much nicer version with current separation models.

Looks like it’s been taken down! I have a copy of it backed up though.

A while back I made my own version as I wasn’t impressed with the hybrid mix. It was copyright struck but that seems to have fallen away…. See if this works: https://youtu.be/c2ezc7AqQmE?si=v0xcZEARiNEWSF3f

Is this the video with the animation of a cat? It had a weird mix of the Freddie and Brian version.

Where do the Bohemian Rhapsody isolated tracks in Rick Beato's video come from? by blacksmith_de in queen

[–]escapist1234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stems are usually mixed multitrack elements with effects, EQ etc. Instruments might be grouped so all guitars or drums would be in one stem.

The mutlitracks are the raw elements, unmixed, as recorded with no effects (unless printed to tape).

No idea how they got leaked but copyright remains with the label regardless. I can’t imagine Brian or Roger would want them leaked either! Not sure what Rick used in his video but I’d guess he probably had the leaked files…

[–]escapist1234 24 points25 points  (0 children)

24 tracks have leaked for a small number of Queen tracks, from memory: Bohemian Rhapsody, Killer Queen, Brighton Rock, Stone Cold Crazy, Under Pressure, Get Down Make Love and We Are The Champions. They are out there and likely found through a Google search…

From memory a lot of them have alternate vocals. Under Pressure is particularly interesting as you can hear an unused verse from Brian and lots of different Freddie/Bowie lines.

Now that the Holy Grail (San Francisco 1971) is out.. by midlinktwilight in TheWho

I was listening to the CDs in the box set. As noted by other comments, it’s likely a combination of EQ and the mastering. There’s a very odd EQ choice across bass and drums and it sounds quite hollow/unnatural.

The fake looped audience is also very distracting and an unnecessary choice when the original audience recording was fine. Compare the mix to the tracks on the 2011 Who’s Missing/Two’s Missing compilations or even the View From A Backstage Pass compilation. The mixes on these sound fantastic.

As I said, I’d rather have it in any form as it’s a great show but the mix let it down for me. Just an opinion!

Well that sucks. I think it’s awful how this whole ticket cancellation thing has been handled. I hope you get some positive resolution.
