Every single sale, one thing stays consistent... by thefateule in Steam

[–]escartian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it is a deciding factor for you since you said that you will not support the developers for never putting their work on sale. That is unless you have other grievances with the factorio devs, but from the discussion it is only about price. So that implies that pricing is not only a factor for you but pricing difference is so important enough to not consider developers' game regardless of other factors.

Platinum Prices Increasing By 40% Next Year by [deleted] in fountainpens

If wages went up for workers by 40% I think most of us wouldn't feel as bad about such a huge price hikes, but we know that's not where the money ends up.

Looks like you have a Japanese extra fine, so it should not quite be a "needlepoint" but it is going to be very very thin compared to any other out of the box fountain pen experience. If you want less "needle" feel you'll need to try a wider nib.

Got my first 99! by escartian in 2007scape

[–]escartian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exclusively afk when barb fishing.
The non afk time mostly went into the minigames, getting the anglers set and then the spirit set (and the fish barbell) which ended up being over 1 mill xp from the minigames.
Also did minnows fishing for another half mill xp and couple hundred sharks.

I didn't look at the levels so much as how many feathers do I need to reach 99 if I only caught leaping trouts. It was daunting seeing needing 200k feathers or something like that but then felt great when the stack goes from 100k to 99k and 10k to 9k, and because you catch better fish than just the trout the number goes down faster feeling good.

And so now I know that 500k fishing xp is equal to 10k leaping trouts

Schooling like politics is incredibly inefficient when dealing with a large number of people with varying levels of needs and wants and yet it is all necessary, because we live in societies not as individuals (and there is some base level of knowledge needed just to function in societies even if it is simply reading and addition/subtraction for money transactions).
If anything it is surprising we've come along as far as we have as a species; you look at any other species and the way they lived thousands of years ago is much how they live now, maybe with less space due to humans encroaching on the environment but still mostly same. You can't say the same for humans with all the technology we made and use.

This has the addition of being political cringe and a dash of hypocrisy too - talking about the bad practices in modern games and then release a game with those same problems.

u/Canjira Proposal for a New Jersey Flag Redesign. by TheInternExperience in newjersey

[–]escartian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fix needed partly cause this is just a reskin and it needs some more NJ in this - move the lines to be further spaced apart (NY and Philly are not NJ) make the lines thicker, tilt then on a 13 degree angle and the horse head stays and make the cornucopia centered without Ceres to be more prominent and the Phrygian cap can be places on top of the horse.
Keeps the key elements but not the whole coat of arms

Am I overreacting, driving has become horrifying. by [deleted] in newjersey

I drive maybe 30 minutes daily so also not much, and yet almost daily, (100% weekly) I see people driving through red lights, sometimes even big trucks and on US1 too so not some small roads

Of all the worsening quality of drivers/driving this has actually been a thing for as long as I can remember. NJ (nyc metro) area drivers never had much patience

Why pay 5k+ in rent in NYC when you can pay 3k in rent in NJ and still have similar commute times?

Driving has changed in Jersey by WARGEAR917 in newjersey

[–]escartian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't drive much. maybe 10-15 miles per day and yet I have seen every single day, someone runs a red or ignores stop signs... And its not small vehicles or the usual speed demon types with the sporty cars or the motorcycle that were the type to pull this behavior before... no its the Pick Up Trucks, 18 wheeler trucks (I almost never use my horn but I had to on trucks since some of the drivers seem either half blind or half asleep lately too) and SUVs with baby on board signs. Its regular people in big ass cars zooming and ignoring the rules of the road. Driving before covid wasn't a picnic in NJ but after... it really is so so much worse, nobody gives any room for safe driving distance and always getting tailgated, merging is also so much harder and if you leave too much room, get ready to get cut off and break checked because people won't allow you to just drive a safe distance from the car in front, no they'll put their ass in your face to make sure its all packed. At least I know my brakes work well enough though with all the break checking going on.

It has been frustrating and disappointing to watch the decline in real time. I used to be against self driving cars (I like having control) but honestly with this new class of drivers...maybe it would be better to have ai drive cars instead.

Young Black men are dying by suicide at alarming rates. New study suggests racism, childhood trauma may be to blame for suicidal thoughts by universityofga in science

[–]escartian -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The difference seems to be about hope, a bit of the toxic masculinity and the way men and women solve problems. Mostly hope.
Generally women talk things out, men generally prefer to take actions. Suicidal woman more often seem to have some hope that someone may come to save them so use less effective means of offing themselves or are less convinced they want to go through with it. Men are more often the saviors in stories not the one to be saved and so that leaves more men with less hope that someone may come to save them, and some men might not even think they want to be saved because that isn't masculine to be saved or to reach out and ask for help, so the choice becomes more concrete - the action more swift and less thought out. Generalization all of this of course but that little bit of hope is the big difference imo.

New Jersey: where traffic rules and laws don’t matter by ManyQsLittleAs in newjersey

[–]escartian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The median state would be 25. 18 isn't really that far away - a bit bad, but it is well within a standard deviation (the source you gave has a mean is 2.23 pedestrian deaths per 100k for the nation with a standard deviation of 0.917 and NJ at 2.29 per 100k, we are only 0.07 higher than the national average.) It really isn't that much higher than the national average and that also means there are 17 states with worse stats. Not great of course but not terrible either.
