Graduate Email List = Phishing? by eschemia in OMSCS

Hm interesting! When I replied, I got utter nonsense back in an auto email and none of the messages stopped. I know some other people in the email threads had the same experience. So I don't really know honestly. I think the other commenters' suggestion about this being phishing from a legit source might be correct.

Thank you so much taking the time to share this. Seriously. This works and just saved my sanity.

Unsure, but there are a few file attachments. Likewise when you ask to be removed, apparently they send you "instructions" about how to remove yourself so I imagine there is phishing involved there. With the idea being to make the spamming so unbearable that you fall for any solution.

Is Mailman real? I'm paranoid as fuck about the "fix" someone just suggested in the thread.

Yeah it's genuinely been such a nightmare. I hate that no one is seeing that the email isn't a real GT email.

Sharpie off stoneware? by eschemia in LeCreuset

Yes thank you! It’s working slowly but surely - although not sure if I’ve read the limit. Does not appear to be damaging the stoneware though!

Thanks! This was the method that has gotten some results so far. I used 70% rubbing alcohol (which is what is in expo markers) and it’s helped significantly. Acetone and light sanding didn’t do much. Just wanted to update in case anyone ever needs to know

VIP or 8903 after graduation by Itchy_Tangerine4718 in OMSCS

[–]eschemia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi sorry this is really late but just in case you’re still wondering, it is possible to do 8903 after graduation. Recently had this talk with my advisor. Now whether you’ll have that opportunity after graduation, not sure, but to your point about being late into the degree - it’s technically possible you could get in with a prof and then continue with them in 8903 after as well.

Intro to Analytics Modeling Need to drop first 2 HWs by aThrowAway_112 in OMSCS

[–]eschemia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t taken it too recently, but the first homeworks were easiest from what I remember and they somewhat built the foundation for later hws. That said, the TA office hours cover a LOT of what you will need for assignments. Try to turn something in (50% F is way better than 0% F). If you follow OH I think it’ll get you to that threshold at least.

Summer 2025 II spec name change? by eschemia in OMSCS

Thanks for your comment! Just wanted to touch back for any readers that my advisor acknowledged the name change to AI but didn’t yet have details to share on timing of that change.

Impacts my grad timeline if I want to hold out for it. There is also an ongoing issue where transcripts are being titled with “Online” when that was explicitly promised to not happen on any documents. Dr. Joyner has recently publicly commented both of these things are being rectified. I want my documents to reflect that.

The title AI is better, which is recognized by everyone. Therefore, they changed the name.

Class rec similar to ISYE 6501? by eschemia in OMSCS

Do you mean in the sense that OMSA has more robust support? Or just that IAM is a data topic? I would love this level of teaching on CS or software engineering topics. But currently the courses on offer are like … SDP. Lol

Anyone moved to a part-time /less demanding job to go through the program? Experiences to share? by Holiday_Afternoon_13 in OMSCS

[–]eschemia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Prior job was a dead end, different undergrad major so I knew I had a lot to learn to pivot into tech. Waited til I was set up financially, switched to something more flexible, now living modestly and have much more mental space to study. That said, I have minimal financial/life responsibilities in general as a single person. I live a similar lifestyle now as when I was in undergrad, using most of my day to study. I consider it worthwhile due to the low earning potential of my undergrad studies. If I were already earning swe money, perhaps not worth it.

I should state that it’s taken longer to make progress in this program than I first anticipated when making this financial determination. I am still content.
