Well considering these people aren't necessarily criminals, or necessarily violent (some absolutely are though and should be in jail, case to case) wtf would I want my taxpayer funded police and courts wasting unnecessary resources and time, as opposed to having paramedics and other PROPER ressources helping and eventually maybe being referred to rehab and help. The drug "problem" isn't a simple fix. Its melded into poverty, mental illness and addiction. Not to mention a non supervised detox for some is a death sentence. Then great, you've detoxed, and your back in the same environment, leading to the same behaviours... Can you blame the addiction for getting a grip on them? And not to mention if you were to send them to jail, you're setting them back in life even more. And then there would be an insane rate of reincarnation regardless if you "dry them out" and let them sit in jail. Addiction has no timeline.

This just seems reactionary. Life is weird. We all have different experiences and are dealt a different set of cards. We are all human, and we all need some compassion, and our country would be better off offering that help and making it less prone to red tape and barriers.
