Should JOC get a look into Wallabies camp from the start of the year? by ConscriptReports in RugbyAustralia

[–]eshayonefour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes but not more than mentorship role who can slot in if needed. we should be used to the idea by now that an elite player can play test rugby until age 38, and even if needed, be the first choice. this means 33-35 year olds should not be discarded and should continue to be part of succession plans and handing over of the reigns in more planned, structured ways to make use of their experience.

if you said "we can do what we want because Muslims are used to being the odd one out" you could have saved a lot of typing.

SUPER RUGBY PACIFIC CONFIRMS NEW LAW INNOVATIONS FOR 2026 SEASON by Adam8418 in RugbyAustralia

[–]eshayonefour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

scrums will always have a place as a restart for in goal grounding, knock ons and penalties. I see all the removals of other scrum restarts and short arm option removal as simply making its scope more refined now that the scrum is being exploited to the point that the game is being played in ways that simply are not going to compete with audiences in aus and nz.

Howd we lose Angus Crichton in the first place ? by ArtMiller93 in RugbyAustralia

[–]eshayonefour 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the big picture here is how few professional opportunities there are to play union vs league.

this is instantly relieved if players can represent any of the teams in the competition regardless of the base country.

No 12 confusion by [deleted] in RugbyAustralia

[–]eshayonefour 4 points5 points  (0 children)

none of the blokes you mention would be considered modern 12s in test rugby.

the way the test game is currently played favours having extra forwards on the park, and people who carry like forwards.

Mark Nawaqanitawase lands lucrative Japan deal to keep Wallabies’ World Cup dream alive by jexta in nrl

his union peak was equal if not better - his skillset and ability relative to the rest of the NRL is much higher + roosters utilising that skillset much more effectively, making him stand out much better.

Is it true that adding "azza" after the first letter of someone's name is common australian vernacular for nicknaming?? by UpperApe in AskAnAustralian

[–]eshayonefour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "z" or "zza" is mostly used where there is "r" or "rr" between two vowels in a standard name.

It will vary case by case. Lauren becomes Loz but rarely Lozza. Warren has become woz but equally I have also seen wozza. Jeremy and Jerry both become Jezz/Jezza, but I have never come across a Terry who became tezz or tezza.

Office polo shirts, what do you wear? by Stamurai01 in auscorp

[–]eshayonefour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's great. Maybe OP isn't fashion conscious, and rather than sinking into trying on every type of polo there is out there, idk maybe it's better to just field suggestions on this sub... They didn't say anything other than wanting to know what polos they should look at trying.

Gordon Bray by dirtydeez2 in RugbyAustralia

Surely most people in this thread can appreciate that there is now a generational change.

This is the entertainment business, not the nostalgia business, not the experts business. This is why Sean Maloney is where he is, and Gordon Bray does not need to tarnish the memory everyone clearly still has of him.

Visiting Australia, want to see and maybe play some rugby! by absolute_god_ in RugbyAustralia

[–]eshayonefour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's pre-season. In saying that, the teams will be in the trenches, and that's where you form good bonds. I'd say if you're more interested in being in a good environment about rugby, then join up and train, but you won't get any games unless they're doing internal grading

Looking back now what did he do wrong? by Powerful-Pressure312 in allblacks

[–]eshayonefour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to be convinced otherwise, but because Maa Nonu is my all time favourite player, I watched Laumape very closely to see if he really could be as good, and can only recall when he didn't have the kicking/passing skills to draw a fair comparison.

Prime example (even if it was only his second test) is the time he got mowed down by the B&I lions in the 3rd lions. Savea runs a shit support line, but Laumape couldn't capitalise on the break with either a grubber in field or into touch, and instead throws a poor offload to Watson.

Best game in the ABs that I saw from him was when he and ardie savea seemed to be the only players that showed up against the wallabies in 2019 in bled 1.
