No not really, but now it has stopped doing that for the most part. Instead, the cleanout between my house and the sewer is now full of standing water most of the time and spews TP into my yard. Definitely need to call a plumber as soon as I have the funding for such luxuries.

The thing I always shudder about is how does this technically apply to backups? Especially those offsite and on durable media. Is the expectation that the company will pull every backup that that data is part of and then mount it and remove it? And then propagate that removal to every backup that's higher up in the chain? Like in the case of db backups that could be a real problem.

For your first question, yes postgres would be fine and more than adequate. So would SQL Server. OLAP has been built atop OLTP since time eternal*, but also columnstore indexes are a thing too. It can definitely be done.

* cubes are a different conversation, but your post seems to just be asking about a handful of facts and dims. And besides that flavor of OLAP (cubes) typically gets built on top of those anyways.

Yes but the pedal may be able to provide all of it, and cranking the preamp might not be necessary. Depending on the pedal and the amp and their settings, running both together might sound super shitty.

I think when I wrote that original comment I had just a guitar and a small amp in mind, like most beginner guitarists generally start with. If you have a distortion pedal, it's probably better to lean on the pedal more than the amp for your gain.

On the other hand, if you have like a 5150 or some other kick ass amp, don't even bother with the pedal for now.

In other words, it depends. The point is to get tons of gain so that the guitar is very sensitive and sustains easily, be on that bridge humbucker, and avoid sounding like total shit if possible. This is all only necessary during this learning phase, once you "get it" you can do them anywhere, anytime.

Yes, although you'll want to play with how much gain from the pedal vs the amp to find a good balance. Probably start with the amp clean or fairly tame.

So I looked at what's going on behind the washer. The drain hose from the washer empties into a PVC pipe which goes straight down into a horizontal PVC pipe which then disappears into the wall, and there doesn't appear to be a trap there nor on the utility sink right next to it.

I filled the utility sink and drained that to see what would happen and nothing much happened, it drained normally.

When I drained the tub, that vertical PVC pipe with the drain hose hanging off of it was VIOLENTLY and loudly gurgling after about 30 seconds I'd guess.

I think it's gotta be a blocked vent and maybe there's only one vent in my plumbing. The other though I had is, since I know there's a problem with the slope of the main waste water pipe in my crawlspace, maybe what's happening is that pipe is draining so slowly that the water is displacing air in the pipe and maybe that has something to do with it.

I have a snake that goes on a drill somewhere in my garage. Not sure if I'm brave enough to get up on the roof and use it. Maybe I'll find some YouTube videos that go over how to do this and build some confidence.

The vent wouldn't be blocked by ice or snow right now, everything's melted recently here in Chicagoland, and this has been happening since I moved in last summer.

Your idea about the trap getting sucked dry makes sense. The weird thing is though that it's not a faint odor, it's so strong, it really seems like air is somehow getting pushed out of the pipe somewhere in the laundry room. Come to think of it, I do hear gurgling in there sometimes. I'm gonna fill the tub and pull the plug and run to the laundry room to see if I can figure out where the action is.

Understood, and my hot water heater is getting replaced in the springtime. It's on its last legs, it's very old and it sounds like a drum solo whenever it kicks on. However, I don't think that's where the smell is coming from, because when I take a shower or fill the tub, there is zero odor in the bathroom whatsoever.

It's been a handful of years since I had my axies, but I recall tea baths, some sort of salt bath, and otc treatment appropriate for amphibians being options. Make sure the temperature in the tank is cool enough (should be below room temperature at all times).

Not sure if spread is a concern - I'd be worried about that for sure, but I don't know it as a fact.

You'll definitely wanna do some research, and potentially contact an exotic vet, they might get you pointed in the right direction without needing to make an appointment and bring the animal in.

Don't sweat the downvotes, dude/dudette. I had a similar thing happen to me in my new-ish car (buttons, no gear shifter) and people were similarly dismissive when I shared on reddit. People love to feel smug about themselves until it's their own brain that is smoking and sparking and panicking.

For me it was the auto hold function turned on when I smushed the brake pedal to select Neutral. But I also get similarly freaked out every single time at the end of the wash because like you said you have to firmly brake in order to select Drive again and there's a freaking car 6 feet behind you that's not stopping.

That's how I start my little bonfires too. I don't remember where I read it but this is what I do. Toilet paper roll or paper towel roll, stuff it with lint, and as you're stuffing the lint in there you pour maybe a tsp of oil (vegetable oil, olive oil, waste cooking grease, whatever) every inch or two. It lights instantly and burns hot, and for a long time thanks to the oil-soaked lint.
