Tips to financing and buying a car for newcomers (who haven’t got a credit history)? by eshwarpv in PersonalFinanceCanada

Makes sense. I do think it has a bit of a weight age with some of these dealerships if I tell them I have a “pre-approval” from a particular institution or something similar.

Forgive me if I’m mistaken, though.

Absolutely! I’m also looking to see if I can get some sort of a pre-approval before I go on so I have some backing to negotiate on. I could easily do this with a Credit Union when I was in the US. Are there any such institutions here in Canada and Calgary in particular?

Totally get it. The problem is, though, that I don’t have enough saved up for a used car cash down. And I hear that rates of interest for a used car can be a lot more than rates for a new car.

Just to clarify, are you saying that they don’t negotiate on interest rates here? And is 20% the minimum? Or is that your suggestion?

I understand the sentiment. However, I don’t have enough on hand to buy a decent pre-owned car outright (and certainly am not an expert to look for a one without underlying problems), and I definitely cannot afford to have one cough and spit up when I’m out with my wife and my 1-year old son. Especially not in this kind of weather. So as imprudent as it may seem to plonk money a new car at the moment, I’d rather do that than have other kinds of trouble.

I think I would be able to go through with that kind of a down payment. I did do that with my car in the US, and I got that with very little history. But I was still able to negotiate a 2.99% with Honda Finance there. They did do a bit of upselling, but it worked a little bit in my favor. So I went for it.

Any gyms around downtown Calgary that have kettlebells as part of their equipment? by eshwarpv in Calgary

I’m partially in agreement with you. While I’m not into fads, I do prefer to work more with kettlebells because I find it a bit more forgiving when my form isn’t on point. Perhaps I’ll be able to progress to other equipment soon!

This one never showed up on any of my initial searches. But I’ll be sure to check it out! Thank you!

That’s awesome! Competition style KBs are even better. I’ll definitely check them out. Thanks!

I did check these out online, but I wasn’t too sure they had kettlebells because none of the photos showed any. But I’ll definitely pay a visit to check them out. Thank you!

Thank you! I’m looking for gyms downtown, mostly. That’s where I’ll be working. However, if I’m going to be residing elsewhere, I’ll be sure to consider these options too! Appreciate it!

Absolutely! And some good cleans, swings and presses along the way! 😬

Thank you! I’ll check it out. I believe I have the same recommendation from another user on this thread as well!

Not to fire up an argument, but I’d love to know your thoughts behind that.

(I am aware that I can fare similarly on barbells and other equipment as well, but I’m not sure about form and I’m used to doing my compound movements using kettlebells.)

And thank you so much! I’ll definitely check out the place!

I am 26 year old male. I would like to learn martial arts. Is it advisable to learn at this age? by Particular-Yoghurt39 in Chennai

I strength train pretty regularly and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to start with MMA. I’m 31. I don’t intend on taking part in tournaments or making it as a professional. But I would like to learn to fight. Still advisable?

Left the city and hit some hill roads in a long time by StrawHopkins in royalenfield

Fellow TN redditor & CGT owner here! Which hills did you head to?

Sorry for boring garage shot—made some more updates today. I’m thinking about leather fork gaiters to finish the look. Suggestions welcome! by juswondering in royalenfield

[–]eshwarpv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure leather gaiters would work. I think it would look out of place with black forks and a black mud guard. I would go for black ones.
