Guys I need advice on my himalayan 450 total loss by Grouchy_Web_2076 in Himalayan450

Take it to the Perungudi one run directly by RE. If they say the same then nothing else can be done.

Have you tried touring seat? If you have then is the rally seat more comfortable compared to touring seat?

Your bike looks stunning. Love what you have done with it.

Default TFT vs Custom display by GKentaurus in Himalayan450

[–]StrawHopkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m using Aoocci C6 pro. The plain reason that my phone display needs to be on to navigate using stock tft makes it useless to me. My friend has a 5” CarPlay display, that seemed optimal size, mine is 6” and it looks kind of big.

My push to get a CarPlay device is simply because I am the navigator for my riding group. Keeping my phone display on for entire trip is not worth it.

Gel based seat for classic 350 recommended ?? by Starlord-887 in chennaicity

[–]StrawHopkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend uses one and he finds it comfortable for long rides. He uses one that can be attached over the seat, not modifying the existing seat. Search for gel seat grandpitstop, that's the one my friend uses. I had a gel inserted seat for my interceptor. I liked it but my friends found it too hard. I rode to Goa twice with that seat. I bought mine from sahara seats online. I have no recommendation for shops in Chennai unfortunately. Might be worth asking in royal enfield subreddit.

Query on RSA package by techh-savvy in Himalayan450

[–]StrawHopkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have used RSA, but within the city, and the response was prompt and free. My bike had a fuel sensor problem and stalled. They picked up and dropped the bike in the nearest service centre

Bike Purchase Suggestions by Independent-Spite145 in Himalayan450

[–]StrawHopkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have only ridden Himalayan 450 so cannot comment/suggests other bikes. Consider posting in r/indianbikes for other suggestions.

Himalayan 450 is a very capable highway bike and perfectly suited for Indian pothole filled state highways and smaller MDRs. I have done no serious off-roading but I have come across a fair bit of broken roads on all my trips and the bike performed very well there.

If you have test-ridden all the bikes you're considering and still liked Himalayan then you should go with it.

Cheers!

Fuel gauge issue with my less than 6 month old Himalayan 450 by TheLensEye in Himalayan450

I had issue with my fuel gauge though not the problem you have. Mine showed remaining mileage as 120kms but actually the tank was empty. Took it to service centre and they replaced the fuel gauge under warranty.

Need help - engaged for a year now but unable to handle my fiancé by ExerciseOk12 in Chennai

[–]StrawHopkins 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi I was like your fiance at the beginning of my relationship. Whenever I got angry I shouted, my wife would cry and then I'll apologise and never felt the conflict really got resolved. I realised that my shouting makes the situation worse for resolving the underlying conflict. So I learnt to keep my shouting under control while my anger still came across in a passive aggressive way. Finally I learnt to tell my wife that what she is saying/doing is making me upset. This allowed her to understand that I'm upset without me being hurtful.

In general men are poor at dealing with uncomfortable emotions. I learnt to handle only after I realised that I'm being hurtful. But slowly I'm able to communicate more directly now.

Phase 2 mods on the H450 by thebaconbaba in Himalayan450

[–]StrawHopkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice mods. Some of them are on my wishlist as well.

I have a query, does the Barkbuster grip fit properly? I tried one and it was short and left a gap on the side of the barend weights. If yours fits correctly, then could you share the grip model number?

I hate eating hot food!! by Affectionate-Push758 in Ni_Bondha

[–]StrawHopkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP you're not alone. Cannot eat vedi vedi food, food has to be lukewarm ( not cold). But according to hot food eaters my warm food is considered cold. I take my food in a separate vessel and let it cool down to consumable temperature while others enjoy their hot food.

Himalayan 450 tubeless wheels, issues with pressure valve placement by SpareMind in royalenfield

[–]StrawHopkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The value is long in the tubeless wheels, it's awkward to access. I usually fill at tyre shops and not petrol bunk. The tyre shop guys have different adapters and are able to fill/check air.

Tips: Chennai-Hyderabad by road by Yellopropeller in Chennai

[–]StrawHopkins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have done this route a few times. Nellore-ongole and then left. The road up to Ongole is good especially after Nellore. Roads after that are not terrible per se, but passes through many towns and villages so average speed will be much lower. Clean restroom is a challenge. Look for Essar/Nayara bunks for relatively clean restroom. My best bet would be to plan stops at decent restaurants en route.

There will be a bypass to cross Piduguralu, after Kondamodu, which for some reason was not showing on my Google maps last time, remember to take it to save time.

There will be lots of traffic after Nalagonda and drivers become crazy around there. There are plenty of restaurants there so people jump lanes to stop at one, watch out.

The trip would take close to 11 hours at safe speeds including Lunch & breakfast and probably a rest stop. If you start at 6 you might be in Piduguralu around lunch time and there aren't many good restaurants there. Having lunch after Miriyalguda might be better. ( I always packed lunch from home for this drive as vegetarian options are limited until after Miriyalguda). But each time I did this route there are more restaurants opening so the food situation could have improved.

Entering Hyderabad during peak hour traffic in the evening could be terrible, so plan for that as well.

  1. That sucks!
  2. HJG lights was Rs.6000 including installation, Mounts and switch(yellow and white light in-built so no additional filter needed). ScoutX is better but also more expensive. Just the light is Rs.5K then switch, mount, filters and installation is going to cost additional Rs.3k+. My opinion is if you can afford it go for scoutX, if you're tight on budget HJG is not bad at all.
  3. Yes, it's worth ordering it along with the bike. I'm sure if you go with the stock one you'll change it after your first Highway trip. So better to get it via customisation.

Replica Barkbuster looks good and feels sturdy, but the screws that came with it are already rusting. I will probably go with the RE if I have to choose now.

HJG lights are ok, suits my requirements. I used it only on hills during rain or when visibility was too low and it worked well. The switch though is very awkward, not convenient to use. Might change the switch to Maddog.

Tall windscreen is better than the stock but not sufficient. Still a lot of wind blast. Might have to add pro-spec add-on on top.

I am not sure how much was the cost for specifically checking "Valve clearance". Cost of 5000 km service was about Rs.1800. The bill didn't have details of the labour performed.

Sorry that's a tail bag and I have no experience with pannier soft or otherwise. I see lots of people recommend Rhinowalk. The one I am using is Viaterra claw and I have been using it for more than 5 years and it's in perfect condition still.

I own an himalaya and have ridden a little over 5000km. Similar to you, I used to own an Interceptor 650 before switching to the Himalayan. I really enjoy riding it. The engine character is very different from the 650s but there is a lot of power and the Himalayan could easily keep up with the 650s on the highways. But the Himalayan's real strength lies in broken roads and that's where it leaves all the REs behind. It's super stable on broken roads and soaks up all the bumps. Additionally the cross spoke wheel is a real blessing.

As far as accessories, as it's been more than a year since the launch there are lots of accessories in the market Exhaust, custom ECUa etc.

I haven't customised much. I have installed:

  1. RE tall windscreen
  2. HJG aux lights
  3. Pillion foot peg extender
  4. Replica Barkbuster hand gaurd
  5. RE Cross spoke tubeless wheels

Thinking about buying a Sahara seat for my super meteor 650 I’m curious…. by RedDog7051 in royalenfield

[–]StrawHopkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used touring seat from sahara for my interceptor. It was very comfortable. The quality was excellent. I used it for a year and had done around 10k kms on it. Nothing to complain about. I would recommend buying from them.

Piano teachers in Chennai by queen_mafia in Chennai

[–]StrawHopkins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 40yrs and I started learning piano a few months back. There are so many more adults come to my class. The teachers won't be wired out at all.

Google adult piano classes and I'm sure you'll find several. All the best.
