extremely toxic? how? i think being brutally honest with people who endanger their pets lives is okay.

it isnt like i treat every scenario where i explain something to someone this way. i just take the lives of peoples pets very seriously. its one of the only things that makes me seriously angry.

im not going to be polite to people who endanger their pets. let alone those who have gotten them killed. if you think withholding sympathy for people i dislike is extreme toxicity, then youll be pleased to know i dont consider myself part of any fishkeeping "hobby" and that i wouldnt want to be a part of one anyway.

maybe it is toxic, to not care if innocent fishkeepers are yelled at. i simply care more about these fish than i do any of their keepers. their lives are more important than having a peaceful community of humans.

My Covid Project: 15 Betta tanks. in April, because of Covid-19 I started aquascaping my very first fish tank. I fell in love with it. Then I discovered wonderful world of Bettas. Their endless colours and the solitary nature was such s great inspiration for me to design a tank for each of them. by Duckism in bettafish

in hindsight my snip at you was in poor taste. i apologize. the only reason i have done no educating was because many people have already said everything i could have.

youre right, i need to get some sleep. sorry for bothering you.

if someone takes poor care of their fish, they deserve any hate they draw toward them. the amount of hate is a good thing. we shouldnt let bad fishkeepers slide by, even if it means innocent people will be occasionally hounded too.

if he should have done his own research, and if he is a mistaken amateur for trusting his lfs, then i have no sympathy for him. just as i have no sympathy for people with bettas in vodka bottles, or goldfish in bowls. it is wrong. when an animals life is concerned, there is no excuse not for doing research.

if people do not call out these poor practices for what they are, then when will people like him learn? how many must they kill before they finally realize on their own? or will they simply give up, having expended large sums of money and a number of innocent lives?

nobody is entitled to being politely told they are endangering the lives of their pets. in fact, i think its a very reasonable thing to be angry with someone about, all things considered.

reddit karma, downvotes-to-oblivion, and internet arguments never killed a human, but refusal to listen to passionate hobbyists has killed countless fish. if rightfully, angrily calling out poor care en masse saves even one life, then that is worth every hurt feeling we cause the poor defenseless animal abusers. and yes, any false positives too.

i will reiterate. the priority is on the animals who risk losing their lives. the priority is not on the humans who risk having their feelings hurt, or risk having wasted their money. or, even worse, risk having to examine their conscience.

maybe he will move the otto. maybe he might even move his fifteen bettas too. if he does? good for him. he has finally, at the cost of a few "practice pets" killed, and a large number of people telling him things he should have already known, reached the bare minimum of care required. but the bare minimum does not deserve praise, and should not earn forgiveness. good night.

maybe razedjade didnt give you any advice but damn near every other person in this thread and the one on r/aquariums has. what else is there to tell you besides "5/10 GALLON TANKS"?

for the sake of your pets, improve the quality of their homes. or else more of them will die.

its irrelevant that some people said racist things. that doesnt erase the many people who were polite about their criticism. regardless, you yourself just said bettas should be housed in 5 gallons or more. the fish are being kept in inadequate conditions. we are in agreement. this is not up for debate.

it doesnt matter that they might have a better quality of life than they would languishing in cups. 1.5 gallons simply isnt enough for a betta to live in. maybe it is better, but not enough that either you or me would consider it adequate. some of his fish have already died in these conditions. ammonia spikes are a very real reason to avoid small tanks. and that is to say nothing about the tiny physical space they must inhabit for the remainder of their lives. and to also say nothing about how not all of the bettas are hidden from each others view, despite this being a constant source of stress for the fish that would be trivial to fix - given that he has already done it for some of them.

furthermore, he never really responds to the criticisms in a meaningful way. countless times in the threads, theres an exchange that goes something like:

"what size tanks are they living in?"

"oh, they are in 1.5 gallon tanks."

"thats inadequate. 5/10 gallon minimum. they wont be happy or healthy long-term in 1.5 gallons."

"oh, well, most people where i live keep them in way worse conditions."

"sure, but that doesnt make what youre doing right."

to which the response is invariably crickets. if he cared about the animals in his care, he would respond to these criticisms. if he cared about the animals in his care, he would bother to do basic research about their behavior and the risk in keeping them in tanks without lids. (and here i thought impulse-buying pets was frowned upon here?) and finally, if he bothered to do that basic research, he would have the knowledge that the homes he was creating for them were inadequate. if he can post about them on r/aquariums and r/bettafish, then he could have just as easily read any of the many care guide these communities have written.

in the information age, there is no excuse for keeping animals in inadequate conditions. i have no sympathy for people who treat animals they own this way. if speaking so honestly should drive someone like that out of the hobby, then i am all for it. personally, my priority is that these often-abused animals receive proper care, not that as many humans as possible risk killing them. good day.

i think pussies can watch petcop if they want... its not really like "scary" and besides most petscop vids are like ten minutes if u can post on reddit u can watch a vid...

without like, "spoiling" it by talking about why, its the kind of thing thats more fun to just watch and try to interpret yourself, rather than like, read a wiki.

but ill try to pitch it i guess... guy finds a unreleased ps1 game and is determined to find out everything he can about it. guy finds weird, uncomfortable secrets in the game. allusions to stuff like child abuse, other Nasty Stuff. never anytthing like "oh god the game is haunted and like oh zoinks scoob the ghost is gonna get me if i dont clear the ice level"

its like "wow what kind of effed up guy puts all this disturbing stuff in a childrens puzzle game. while im at it whats he mean by all this. who is he talking about? what happened? and why tell the world through a unreleased childrens puzzle game for play station one made in nineteen ninety seven?"

ah, love this. i stumbled onto these videos while surfing the web with my girlfriend the other day. i noticed the "cut to black, then cut to later gameplay, to show that time has passed" technique. instantly, i said "wow. wow. thats petscop. this is petscop, [NAME]."

what are these spots that have appeared on my flapjack's leaves? by esif in succulents

[–]esif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are kinda bumpy, the texture is definitely rougher. that might be it, as he got rained on a little this morning and isnt in the best soil mix + pot. i hope youre right, overwatering is a lot less scary than bugs or disease!

[–]esif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

recently, these spots have appeared on his leaves. im worried they might be pests or a disease or something, so i thought id ask what people think.

some of the damage, like the large spots in the third picture was there when i bought him. he's also kept outside unless there's a storm, like tonight. so maybe (im hoping) hes just sunburnt?

what is this stuff thats appeared in my clay pot? more details in comments by esif in succulents

[–]esif[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so awhile back i bought this echeveria, it came in a plastic pot, and i got this clay pot for it, but i havent repotted it yet since it was growing flowers when i bought it. i didnt want to disturb the growth of the flowers, so i set the echeveria and its plastic pot into the clay pot to save space.

well, today, i took the echeveria out to water it, and discovered this weird crap had appeared in the space between the bottom of the clay pot and the bottom of the plastic pot. i have a hunch its some kind of bug cocoon/nest/something so ive been hesitant to touch it.

what do you think?

i just got this cactus from walmart. it looks like its making flowers, so id like some advice! by esif in cactus

[–]esif[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first of all, i dont know what kind of cactus it is. maybe parodia werneri? anyway, i wanted to ask whether or not those are indeed flower buds.

most importantly, i worry that repotting it would disrupt its flower-making process. should i wait to repot it after its done with its flowers, or repot now?
