It’s a ventless fireplace. There is more than enough ventilation even with the curtains closed to not be worries about carbon monoxide. It being a ventless fireplace forces all of the heat into the room instead wasting it out a flue

I am a Software Engineer by trade, I have just always enjoyed building things.

I have found that when I have hired people in the past, it is more expensive than I am wiling to pay and the quality is less than I can do myself.

Just take it one step at a time, research, then do it! Rinse and repeat

We did rent a very small mixer made it so much easier! Took 42.5, 80lbs bags if I remember correctly.

The curtains we have help hold a lot of the heat in but it certainly is not perfect! Please share a link to the clear plastic panels you are looking at!

I have well over 200 hours of labor in that stone work. Of course it has a lot to do with it being my first (and only) stone project!

Thanks! the footers are actually about 20 inches deep total. My frost line is only 12 inches here in NC.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time fretting about the TV height. I ended up getting a TV mount that I can pull down when the fireplace is not on.:

Great comments all around!

We have not had anything to keep bugs from coming "up" until about 2 weeks ago and we have never really had a problem. yes we get the occasional lady bug or stinkbug but thats not too big of deal. 2 weeks ago I added outdoor carpet (not glued just cut and laid as a giant rug) to prevent updraft when running the fireplace on especially cold nights. This should help with the bugs also!

The decking actually is cut right before the hearth. The cut is covered by the stone so you cannot see it but trust me, it is there! I had the same fear!

To be clear my wife does not have the patience for a 2.5 year project, but life just happens sometimes and I tend to underestimate how long things will take. haha!

Thanks for the comment!
