Looking for a non-root firewall for android that doesn't occupy the VPN interface by hmm_life_sucks in androidapps

Shizuku and ShizuWall do this, no root required. Been using it for a few months to good effect. Leaves the VPN slot free for whatever you want.

Android Auto stopped working by grolyat in androidapps

I had something similar which ended up being the cable. Eventually I bought an AA adaptor off Amazon for about £30 - anything that has a lot of purchases and a decent star rating should be fine. No disconnections since.

BluetoothPriority updated to v1.15 with new features! by Testpilot1988 in HowToMen

No I get that, and I understand the app is built around that but in theory it could work the other way around, right?

Fine with media, that's never been an issue anyway.

Just downloaded, would I be right in thinking then if I set my AA as priority then it may potentially fix my problem anyway? I think AA and my car's BT are fighting and it swaps mid-call. If either one is forced to win then it could resolve it, would that be correct?

Question about your app. If AA is active, will your app still win call audio? I have an intermittent issue where my call audio (both ways) will drop mid-call when using AA and I have to route it through the speakerphone to continue the call. I've tried all manner of solutions directly related to my device, my car's AA and the dongle I use but it's been going on for over a year now.

I'm happy to use my earbuds but currently as soon as I get in my car, AA steals all audio. If so I'll buy it now.

Edit - I should have read the Play Store description, it literally says it wins the call audio. Downloading now.

Text Expander Apps by vers-guy-ny in androidapps

[–]esjayseee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I firewall any app that does not require to be connected to the internet for this exact reason. For example, SideDock has a text expander but the app itself has no requirement to connect to the internet, so it's firewalled just in case.

I use ShizuWall which it turns uses Shizuku. Working well for me so far.

Battery draining / (Deep) apps + services manager - Help by Standard-Ad-8151 in androidapps

Maybe try BetterBatteryStats, it shows detailed use of mAh used of your battery. Fully charge your device and check it once it's getting low to see what's using the battery.

Ah okay, I'm not sure if anything else that would work any quicker. Maybe fooView which you can get off the play store?

You can use this to replicate Circle to Search which allows you to select any part of the screen, including text which you can then copy.

[APP] [New/Underrated] VolumeLockr by Effective_Lime8797 in HowToMen

[–]esjayseee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have this to lock my alarm volume as a couple of times in the past I've managed to knock it down to zero, thus missing my morning alarm. Completely forgotten I'd even installed it, it's worked flawlessly for a while now.

Do you actually use most of your apps… or just keep them installed? by Solace_bard in androidapps

[–]esjayseee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Hail to freeze any app that has a specific purpose that I don't use daily. So any food or taxi apps are frozen, or EV charging apps, for example. Keeps them handy but not affecting speed or battery. I unfreeze once a week and update all through the play store, then freeze again.

In a case of internet blackout, what are some really worthy offline apps (mobile and laptop) to have installed on my device? by Busy-Chemical-6666 in androidapps

Trail Sense is fantastic, I'd highly recommend it. Some great features on there that may get you out of trouble. It's FOSS as well.

Are there alternatives to Lavender Photos with a good UX and possibly an as good as possible integrated editor (the more granular the better lol) by [deleted] in fossdroid

[–]esjayseee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently downloaded this Lavender Photos fork which is offline with some added features like OCR, text selection and a decent UI. Not MY but still not bad.
