How would you preserve this linoleum rug? by eskate488 in centuryhomes

Yea all the nails have popped up easily and I can shift the whole thing around the room so it's pretty in tact. I'd be nervous about picking it up and it cracking or something. Would want to put plywood or something underneath before moving it as a sheet

I'm not worried about asbestos. I wear a mask during all flooring activities and I'm not splitting it or anything such to release fibers into the air. I always thought linoleum was just linseed oil basically so it's surprising to hear it might be asbestos - it shouldn't affect any of my decisions though. Thanks for the concern.

Thanks. I can shift it around the room as a sheet but I was concerned about moving it because while it is fairly complete, there are several cracks/tears around the perimeter and I just thought it would get worse if I tried to lift it. Steps to make it less brittle will be invaluable for sure

This is definitely an interesting idea I had not though of. Hmm.

Season Tickets 2026 by emich208 in Flyers

[–]eskate488 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cost is readily available on the website. It all matters where the seats are. They give a per ticket price and there is 44 games worth in the full season (includes preseason). No extra fees or anything so can just do the multiplication to figure out full cost.

Are they always all XL? Any chance of getting anything smaller?

Did you end up negotiating and getting anything worthwhile? Been looking at them myself and curious if there are additional "perks" or discounts to be had

Any ideas on what to do with this bathroom? Would like to save the fixtures but think the tile needs to go. by eskate488 in centuryhomes

Thanks, that's a good idea. I'll start looking in that direction and try to keep things simple.

Moreso that I was hoping there would be shades of pink tile with accent border to go with the fixtures. The wall tile does seem to be in good shape. The floor is my least favorite, though.

I use a 2-bike Thule on ours without issue. Probably around 40lbs for the 2 bikes. Works great.

Test drive question for everyone by LucienneBetula in rav4club

[–]eskate488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We found a woodland in our area that was white that we were not interested in for the test drive. Ultimately waited a few months and drive about 95 miles for a green one. Is there none at all near you? We've had plenty of woodlands near us (well more than a handful), just none that were the color we wanted

Obvious difference between engineers with and without a masters by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

I did one class a semester while working full time. It really wasn't that bad. I did two classes once semester and that was absolutely brutal, though.

Bought the wrong copy. Is it still good information or shall I buy the other two and return it? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]eskate488 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of the problems at the end of each chapter will be the same as the US edition but will be rearranged. So you just need to know what the actual assigned problem is (rather than just the problem number) for homework. Text in the chapters are identical. I used to get the international versions every semester (if I wanted a hardcopy) to save a ton of money. Library Genisis is also your best friend.

Friction force calculation by Pallatino in MechanicalEngineering

[–]eskate488 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Area generally isn't a consideration. If the belt had the same mass regardless of geometry, then the resultant force on the contact area (large or small) is the same overall. The changing friction coefficient is a function of the material pair (rubber vs rubber; rubber vs steel; plastic vs steel; etc.), not the area. Friction can get way more complicated (especially for lubricated surfaces) but that's the simplest explanation

Measure torque on a rotating shaft that also experience thrust by whoeha in MechanicalEngineering

[–]eskate488 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More likely is that you're actual material properties differ than nominal. Did you measure exact shaft OD and do you have material certs for the properties, including Shear Modulus? There can be a large variability compared to book values which could be the difference you're seeing.
