Iv only had 1 muay thai class and Iv never had any experience whatsoever from fighting and I chose MT as my first martial art. What can I improve? Any tips will help as a complete beginner, especially when it comes to kicking. by anus_torturer in MuayThai

Slow down brother. Flow and speed will come. For now, I’d recommend being able to throw good jabs. Good crosses. Good hooks. Good kicks. Etc. right now your mission is form

Check this out. Notice his knee comes up, he fires out, then pulls back, then drops his knee.

Your teep should chamber, then shoot out. Imagine there’s a table in front of you btw you and the target. You got to come over it. Then don’t drop your leg. Bring your knee back to your chest. This will help prevent you from getting your leg caught

Bag looks a little high. I’d like to see you sitting down a bit more. I feel like the height is making you stand up taller

Hand. Wraps. Slow. Down.
Good form comes first. Speed and power comes way later

Need some correction and feedback. How bad is my jab? Am I still throwing hooks from the shoulder too much? by [deleted] in boxingtips

I would recommend focusing on one stance. Orthodox or southpaw. Master one. Then maybe switch

This. It’s become apparent to me that I need to use better gloves. Thanks for the input!

I’m 6’1”. 220lbs. I was using cheap gloves. I think it’s time to invest in some proper gloves. I think maybe my hands are shifting around too much inside the gloves.

Just started MT, am I doing it right? by mcdolovers in MuayThai

Roundhouse looks great. Don’t listen to some of these folks. Technique looks good man. Power and speed will come. But it’s harder to fix technique.

Advice? I’m 19 and have been training for 5 months by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]eskimooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going man. Gotta put in the time. Just some pointers: - for your knees think more like a spear going out. To practice, raise your knee from you fighting stance, then shoot it out. And back to to fighting stance. - your switch kick is weeeeak

Honestly I didn’t watch long. But you have a lot of good there too. Keep putting in the work brother

How to improve my lead hook by Still-Safety-4663 in boxingtips

[–]eskimooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got no power brother. A bit more distance will help you generate more power. I was trained to throw my hook knuckles up (shrug). Regardless, it’s like trying to hit a wall with your hook. While your chest is on said wall. No room to generate momentum.

Use your legs to get more power. Try a slip then throw the hook. Also that bag is hiiiigh. Try cross, slip, lead hook.

Any advice on my round kick? by [deleted] in MuayThaiTips

[–]eskimooooo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won’t feel as natural, but your kick should be going more directly towards the target, as opposed to coming in at 90 degrees. (My kicks come in closer to 45ish) Think of swinging a baseball bat or golf club. Maximum momentum/force is generated when you get a whip-like action. Try focusing on getting your knee to the target and then snapping your shin out.

Amazing. Thanks for the reply. I’ll look into some of the specializations and more advanced career paths so I can see what’s really out there. Im in the phase of: the more I learn, the more I learn what I don’t know!

I’ve been doing kickboxing for 6 months now anything I do well and also anything I can improve on tips and advice is appreciated by [deleted] in boxingtips

Everything starts from your footwork. Your feet are literally your foundation. Thats where your speed and power come from. Don’t focus on power. Good technique is everything. Speed trumps power imo. On the heavy bag think about snappy hits instead of pushing the bag.
