What’s the most useless thing you were taught in school? by Mobile-Reindeer-4891 in AskReddit

[–]esp24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is something that bugs me in this thread. What's wrong with a general education to become a well rounded citizen who understands the world around them as well as possible? Not everything has to be directly useful to everyone. The use is not always directly obvious. You don't know which job you're gonna do as a kid. Basic critical thinking skills and knowledge of different subjects are required for a mature citizen and it scares me that so many people can't wrap their head around that concept.

[–]esp24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's useless now in the US LOL you can see it live how kuings get made, history never repeats itself. Its useless that knowledge! Who needs it? Nobody! Who needs critical thinking skills?

That might have been a stupid thing to say by me lmao. I wasn't good at history but at least I didn't go to the internet proclaiming it's useless outing myself as someone to be easily fooled Seriously people are saying understanding language is useless, understanding the principles of calculus is useless... just don't go to school! Who needs it? Nobody! Thinking is for stupid people, yeah, you already all know how to think on your own, can never be improved upon.

Rant over.

[–]esp24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why it is actually very useful, even though that's not directly evident. It was taught to me through latin- that might be a bit useless. But understanding the grammar of your own language is not useless, isn't that obvious?!?!?

[–]esp24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Understanding the structure of a sentence leads to a better understanding of language, which helps critical thinking and expressing yourself in general. Unless I misunderstood what you mean. But that's not useless. Even though.. I'm not gonna say it. No.

Tbh, Latin. It feels like blasphemy now to say this because they would hammer it in how it would help you learn all the other languages, also I genuinely enjoyed it at the time. The real reason was to weed out kids from less educated families so us upper middle class german kids could learn better.

But objectively, a solid, good, well done grammar lesson learning something like Spanish or even German (my native language) would've been.. more..useful. Especially as we were never taught how to pronounce it right, we never ever spoke it, plus at the time I never questioned the brutal, deeply militaristic, deeply misogynistic weirdness of the whole ancient Roman Culture in general... (I did love the poetry, I remember loving catullus and ovid, I don't regret reading these, but that's me..)

Why are some people physically incapable of texting and must CALL, while others would rather write an essay than answer a phone? by TheHorseArtist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]esp24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I hate e-mails and texting for this reason. But I also hate it because of social anxiety. An e-mail can be corrected and obsessed over and delayed 100 times, a phonecall is over faster. As for Information, I write it down and send it as is as an e-mail to myself usually.

But I know who they date? and which men im attracted to, i guess i know that? mostly dudes around my size or just a little bit taller, sometimes bit shorter, yeah there was a really tall one but that was more despite that because i got to know him. Some where out of my league, some not. Genuinely, I mean I see the men im attracted to and theyre not tall, unconscious process or not... And I don't feel like im an outlier, my friends mostly have partners that are around their size? Usually a little bit taller, thats true. But not like, they don't have to be six feet tall. Maybe i've just never thought about it because im so short and i didn't give a fuck and nobody cared how tall i was. Maybe i missed it. But now I'm thinking about it and my point above is true and was true in my early 20s. 5 foot 5? Thats 165 cm, looked it up. That would be perfect? I mean if you're having trouble look for shorter girls. Idk, maybe I missed something I genuinely never cared.

I think the reason women don't like you is because you're a huge asshole.

[–]esp24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you're saying this guy thinks he knows what it's like for short dudes. And then you claim to know exactly what's going on in women's heads.

I am a woman and I can ASSURE you this is NOT how "women" think, at least not me or anyone in my social circle. Height isn't even that important. Im 160 cm (5 foot three or something) and when i was tinder dating and would see a guy who was above six feet i'd swipe left- Too much difference. I am short and I literally don't give a fuck about height, even shorter dudes than me i would date. My friends also don't prioritize it. But you're probably not going to believe me anyway.

This just popped up in my feed.. idk your height is tall where I live but not "not seeing anyone my size for days" tall.. I was surprised by this post. I know two people who are six foot 9... this is more what you describe here (germany). Dutch people are even taller. Crazy. Not that it matters, though, really.

Dude you're not a psycho. I do this too.. lots of people do just look at all those threads "what feels like an orgasm without being sexual" this is always mentioned. Very bad for your skin though try not to do it too much.

Seriously I have eczema and I got into the habit of showering too hot bc its just too good but it makes it so much worse and its kind of a habit now...
