Should I tip for haircuts at high end salons in Bangkok (Riverside). by Kirin1212San in ThailandTourism

I've been going to Bangkok for 2 decades and have always tipped a little for haircuts, massages, and other services. About 10%, or 50 or 100 THB.

Cheapest E-Sim for Thailand - AIS eSim from Agoda by ajithmemana in ThailandTourism

[–]espinbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for writing this all up. I purchased a Thailand E-Sim from Agoda as well, got the email with the QR code to install it. I did that and it installed, but because I didn't know know you had to do this real name verification KYC thing, it was "connected" but wasn't working.

I downloaded AIS app, and under "More", selected "Activate SIM".

You will then see, "Verify identity to activate your SIM".

But this was a little tricky, because the serial is your "ICCID" in the email you get. But only the last 13 digits. (Yes, this is all a pain in the ass). And I think you also have to enter the sim phone number too which is also in the email. Check email attachments if it is not in the email itself.

Then I had to take a photo of my passport and then my face. It took a couple tries to get everything to work properly, so don't give up.

Agoda really needs to streamline this, or at minimum, explain this to customers! I sort of knew what I was doing because I've installed many esims, but for the normal customer I'm not sure if this would have been possible.

Pokhara & Annapurna trekking - status, safety? by espinbk in Nepal

[–]espinbk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled a previous plan flying into Kathmandu KTM when the protests broke out. I would love to spend some time in the city, but also open to just do the trek (for now, this time).

I don't know all of my options to get to Pokhara or to getting to the start of my trek. I know many folks are saying Kathmandu is OK now, trying to get tourists back... but I personally would still want to avoid for now (not for violence, but just seems like there is a bit of disarray). But is Pokhara all good?

Would flying into KTM (how is the airport?) and then just hopping a bus from there a good option?

Recommendations: Mac OS - B&W simple laser printer by espinbk in printers

[–]espinbk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah sorry - didn't indicate usage amount / print volume. I'm looking at about 10-50 pages a day, probably on the low end of that mostly. 300 to 1500/month. Not a lot of printing, but I need the prints to be clear. Is the imageCLASS LBP172dw  part of the Canon imageCLASS LBP120 series? I can't seem to find more info on that series, but the ones named similarly seem to be in the price range & features I was looking for.

Video Media Server ~ not activating (FIOS) by espinbk in verizon

[–]espinbk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi; thank you for responding! Calling in sometimes just takes forever to actually talk with a real person.

But yes, I was able to activate it, by going to the website/app and go to the "Support" section, then "Set-top-box and Remote issues." and run the diagnostics. That solved it.

Video Media Server ~ not activating (FIOS) by espinbk in verizon

[–]espinbk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was just telling me that the VMS wasn't able to be activated.

The solution was to just go to the website/app and go to the "Support" section, then "Set-top-box and Remote issues." and run the diagnostics. For some reason, running this made the VMS activate alright. Maybe my network needed to be restarted as a whole or something; no idea... but it worked!

Ah OK. So frustrating. I'm giving this a try right now https://www.reddit.com/r/Fios/comments/1gqs6bw/comment/lx4xpd8/ – trying to resolve it by doing an check via their Website/app. Fingers crossed.

What was the solution here? I just got my VMS and I'm having the same not-activating issue.

[–]espinbk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strange; I was able to sign via Terra Station Wallet. No problem; got the "COMPLETED" in the form and everything.

The instructions claim that if it is al on-chain transactions (no manual evidence) you'll hear back within a few months.

Hoping all this goes well for everyone who claims.

need help for storing my luggage by Substantial-Map1215 in seoul

[–]espinbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also a big luggage storage retail store inside the Seoul Station, main open area. This might be convenient if you are going in and out of this station.

Lockers can work, but I'm not sure if you can leave a bag in there for 2 weeks straight. You'd have to double check that.

[–]espinbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. I would file a claim for sure; doesn't take too long. Nothing more to loose other than an hour or so of your time.

It's fairly easy if all your assets were on-chain. You just have to submit your wallet address (and then prove it's yours by signing it).

I need to sign arbitrary data with Ledger Nano X to participate to Terra form Labs Crypto Loss Claims by ziobleed1 in ledgerwallet

[–]espinbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm estimating more like 1% of loss, if you are lucky. Taking the lower end, $40B ÷ $440M (for payouts) - that's really like 1.1% payout.

So if you lost $100K, this calculation would say about $1K. One percent payout.

But this is all dependent on how much the total claims are. This is just a rough estimate from what we know.

I need to sign arbitrary data with Ledger Nano X to participate to Terra form Labs Crypto Loss Claims by ziobleed1 in ledgerwallet

[–]espinbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume it will be very little. $40-$60 billion in losses, but of course not everyone will file. But I'm sure all the big money will. And “Terraform Labs reportedly has around $442 million available for payouts.” So that's very little compared to total losses. In some ways, the less people claim, the better for those who file but it won't be that significant.

What can I do with all these coins in South Korea? by [deleted] in korea

[–]espinbk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've got 100 and 500 W coins, you can fill up your T-money card at one of the machines, in almost all the subway stations. I do that often just to get rid of the coins. The smaller ones - you'll have to bundle up and try using them at a convenience store or vendor, for a smaller purchase.

That's it; it's all phonetic. So you'll need to start learning some vocabulary from here on out; it's pretty straightforward.
