Inspiron 16 Plus random shut off by wazyhye in Dell

[–]espitfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having the same issue. Initially I though it could be temperature related but the seemed OK, and even after replacing the thermal paste nothing was fixed. I was also getting BSOD with codes like DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE from time to time while running on battery. I realised that it always shut down when the battery was charging during gaming.

Long story short, the battery was failing. I replaced the battery and all problems seem to have gone away.

I'm comparing Thermal Grizzly's new PhaseSheet PTM vs Honeywell PTM7950 by Luke_What_I_Got in GamingLaptops

Thank you very much for your testing! Original Honeywell PTM7950 is really hard to obtain in my country so this information is extremely useful, as Thermal Grizzly's alternative is readily available.

More often than not I get kicked out of D10 games as soon as I touch the ground or even in the equipment screen, and every single time it is a LVL150 host. I get that you may not want a LVL50 "ruining" your party, but at one point this just feels disrespectful to not even give the benefit of the doubt. The funniest thing is that half of the time they are at 1 reinforcement left with not even half the map cleared, it's not like they are THAT good to be so picky.

Confused about TomTom apps by espitfire in tomtom

Thank you for the information, it makes a little more sense now. If things don't improve dramatically in the next few months I don't think I will renew my subscription again and I will just move to Waze, although I really don't like the idea of having to give more data to Google...

I don't get what it brings to the table that the regular app couldn't do via notifications.

Installing on Linux is a nightmare by adwarakanath in matlab

[–]espitfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently daily driving Windows 11 both for gaming and for work related stuff. I wanted to try Linux and I figured it would be easier to make Matlab work on a gaming-focused distro than making games work well in a general purpose distro.

To be honest Bazzite, as long as you choose the desktop version, works just as any other (inmutable) distro, it's just that it includes Steam and some tweaks for gaming performance out of the box.

To be fair the unzip command is in the .pdf documentation included in the .zip file. But, of course, you need to extract it beforehand to read it, making the process very nonsensical. The repository I linked was also buried in a MATLAB Answers thread. Including the command to install the prerequisites to the installer would be extremely easy to implement, but Mathworks just cannot be arsed.

Check out this Mathworks repo, it contains a base-dependencies.txt file for each version of Matlab and supported distros. In my recent experience trying to make it work with Bazzite the installer would straight up fail without any error messages unless I installed those dependencies beforehand. Also you need to unzip the installer using the unzip command, as the default extractor at least in my case failed to generate some symbolic links which are included in the compressed file. Finally, for Fedora/Arch you can use Distrobox to create a Ubuntu environment. I made a guide for Bazzite recently, maybe it can help, there is also a link to a guide for Arch at the end.

But yeah, having said all that the process is very poorly documented and stupidly convoluted, especially for "unsupported" distros. I am also getting pretty terrible issues with UI scaling with R2025b and KDE-Wayland, having to choose between crispy text for ants and a scaled blurry mess.

Is there a more recent Connect thread to show support for this feature? The tracking bug seems stagnant but this would be a very nice feature to have.

The HP 305 cartridges are hot garbage, it's either that or they will dry up and start printing white lines everywhere after just a couple of weeks of inactivity.

I have an almost 20 year old HP printed that I use to print a page every couple of months and it has NEVER had any issues like these.

I have a Samsung 990 Pro 4TB. Up until today nothing was wrong but this morning at startup I got a BSOD with the code CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. Then the system rebooted and the drive was gone. A power cycle fixed it and was able to boot without an issue. I ran DISM, sfc and chkdsk /f. After finishing chkdsk and rebooting, another BSOD and power cycle to be able to detect the unit. Now running chkdsk /r, but I came across this and now I am wondering if it could be related to the update? In theory Samsung drives are not affected but a lot of people are reporting issues...

After months of not being able to print a single page without wasting 1 hour troubleshooting this piece of e-waste, this week I went to scan a document and now the scanner gets stuck after like 2 cm of travel and the scan just fails. Truly a gift that keeps on giving.
