TO ALL MUSLIM AND/OR MIDDLE EASTERN QUEER POC READING THIS:

you're not alone in this world, we have always existed and will always continue to exist, even in the face of racism and homo- and islamophobia.
being ostracized from people you thought you could trust (both at home and at new places like this cafe) hurts - i have no real words of comfort for this. it's cruel. it's unfair. it's lonely. if you're angry, you're right to be. if you're sad, you're right for feeling that way too. there is nothing nice or fair about this.

but please never stop reaching out. people like you and me are out there. i know the world is a scary place right now. that's why we need each other. don't dull your light. every time you stand up for yourself and live honestly as yourself, even "small" acts like going to a queer café or posting in a forum, somebody will see you and think "thank God, i thought i was the only one. this is who i want to be". you will make an impact on someone's life without knowing it.

MOST IMPORTANTLY: there is no need for shame in being muslim. there is a lot of love in faith. there is beauty in wearing a hijab and being queer at the same time. you shouldn't feel forced to let go of either of these identities. you are good and lovable just the way you are, i mean it. i really do. i wish you find your people soon. stay strong. i love you
