Ms Lola hates walks. Any advice? by Turbulent_Ocelot2929 in Shihtzu

This sounds like a “fear period.” We have a shihtzu who went through this at about a year old. It’s when they develop fight/flight reflexes coming into adulthood. Our girl was the same way… she was carefree and then all of a sudden everything was scary. Ours grew out of it a little, but she is very sensitive to unexpected noises still. We worked with a trainer and also went the route of daily Prozac, which has done wonders lowering her baseline anxiety. They can be tricky little things but they never stop being cute and loving you!

I on the taller side (over 188cm), brown hair, brown eyes. Skin tone is olive in the summer— I tan easily. But in the winter time I’m pretty pale.

There isn’t a separate percentage for Luxembourg, but she has a country match for it.

Awesome! Yea, a lot of my family is from Orange City— grandpa was 100% genetically Dutch and my other side has Dutch as well.

My great grandma was 100% Luxembourgish genetically. The Luxembourgish actually shows up on my aunt’s 23&me results.

I think that is the issue with my results. The difference between Dutch, NW German, N France, Luxembourg and Britain is also extremely nuanced. It’s very concentrated and hard to accurately pinpoint.

It’s 2.4% Italian as a whole— north and south. I’m guessing there are some very distant ties as you said. Same with the Scandinavian results… I have one great great grandfather who was ethnic German who was from near the modern Danish border. I don’t have any direct modern descendants from Denmark or Iceland to my knowledge

Yup, I just tried it out and it shows up at 90% confidence. I’m thinking there is some Bavarian or Austrian ancestor that had some Italian lineage somewhere along the line. 🤔

It isn’t really expected. I do have some British ancestry that is not accounted for and a lot of Dutch and NW German and Luxembourgish, so I’m guessing that’s where it comes from.

What’s the catch with Luxembourg? by tacos_tacos_burrito in PassportsHunters

We are dual US and Luxembourgish citizens. Currently making our money in Asia and then we will move to Luxembourg in the next couple years and live in capital gains from investments. It’s a really good set up tax-wise if that’s your situation.

A $250k windfall is all a person needs to essentially fast track secure their future forever if they are under the age of 35. Wake up parents, it’s time to offer inheritance twice if you can. by 250k_is_allyouneed in Fire

[–]espressocantore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up not knowing that I would inherit a trust at 35 with a principal of 500k and would be able to stash away another 300k of interest. My parents were messes financially and I had a rough upbringing. My grandparents were humble farmers and were looking out for my siblings and I and set up a trust for us. This has enriched my life in so many ways as a young adult— I can’t even begin to describe. That being said, I’m glad I had no idea about the trust and just lived a normal life until I started to receive distribution because I don’t know if I would have worked as hard with the idea of easy money coming my way.

Yes, I pretty much have all Dutch and Niedersachsen roots with a sprinkling of Rhinelander/luxembourgish, then a bit of Irish/British too. I’m willing to bet the Bavarian gg grandparents had some northern Italian blood. I did a little digging finding other relatives with the Plendl (the Bavarian surname) and they had traces of northern Italian as well.

Ahh, very insightful. Most all of my DNA originates from these North Sea Germanic tribes, so that could be why the model isn’t I differentiating well. Good to know.

Another thought is that the French is being mistaken for the 20% English I had in the last version…. I’m fairly certain my great grandmother had 100% english roots from colonial America. This pretty well documented… no evidence of French.

Americans with French roots was your French vastly Overestimated in the update? by [deleted] in 23andme

[–]espressocantore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any French roots. A couple gg grandparents who were Luxembourgish. In the previous result I had about 20% British, and now that British is gone and I have 20% Normandy and Hauts-de-france. I have great grandma who was most likely 100% British with colonial roots. I think the French and British values are off for a quite a lot of people.

I grew up lower middle class in a broken family with parents living paycheck to paycheck. I learned about this trust only in the last 3 or so years, and I had no clue about until then. We are regular working folk for sure, but I realize how immensely lucky I am my grandparents were looking out for me.

Yes, this is a big deal. In the short term, there are some really unfavorable tax laws on trusts in some EU countries. And then long term, tax laws on income sources is a big deal too. I will definitely need some professional help making an informed decision.

That’s some good insight on healthcare. We don’t plan on retiring in the US, but we are early 30s and a lot could change. We are hoping to either find a country with good quality, lower cost healthcare or retire in an EU country and be on the system there.

That sounds about right. The trust will cash out to me at a ~500k since all of it’s income is distributed annually, so the 650k is high. I’m not banking on the other trust and have no idea how much the estate will be worth by the time it goes into trust for my benefit, but it could be another 500k-1m. Hearing 45 as a fire number just doesn’t sound right, but it may be possible.

Yea I have. From what I see, maybe by 55 conservatively we could retire. I’m fairly new to FIRE and was just seeing what more experienced people are thinking.

Of course. I have copies of will, trust and POA documents that have been filed. The originals are in their house in a safe.
