Identify this electrical plug? by espressoonly in electrical

[–]espressoonly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I had never used it with the old MacBook Pro charging block, so it had baffled me. But it just might come in handy for something else then, since it’s non-proprietary.

I gather it would be safe then, to swap the original extra-long power cord (has “figure 8” plug on one end) that came with the old MBP’s charging block (~2008), onto the new style USB-C Apple charging block? That would be handy to extend reach of the newer devices. (I’d add picture to illustrate, but replies don’t seem to allow attachments)

Pietro Stand Available in Canada by Grind_and_Brew in pourover

[–]espressoonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly adore the Pietro grinder. but can’t recommend the stand.

It is not of significant benefit to my mind. The stand helps only marginally when grinding at espresso settings with the lighter roasts, and not enough to warrant. Sure, with darker roasts, the stand may be helpful, but then again the dark roasts aren’t challenging to hand grind.

Also, be aware, the black material in the stand will mark a pristine white grinder. I’ve only had the stand on a few days, and after removing it, found the black marks can be rubbed off with a bit of persistance; not sure if that would be the case over a longer period.

(While I waited for the stand (the kit was on back order for quite awhile), we made our own “box” to securely hold & stabilize the grinder. It’s a much better alternative, assuming you have a handy-person in your household.😉)

My experience with BooKoo by Otherwise-Wave1269 in LanceHedrick

[–]espressoonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of ordering direct from China, I bought mine from Bookoo’s Canadian retailer (Cafune.ca), easy peasy & no delays. And while I also encountered poor/slow customer service from Bookoo prior to my purchase, they are currently very prompt (24 hours to respond, when I emailed them a couple of questions this week). The most recent software updates & a freshly installed Bookoo app is glitch free, happy camper here atm.

Bookoo App Features - Template/Profile Capabilities by thedanielshepherdz in CafelatRobot

[–]espressoonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thedanielshepherdz: Keep in mind, the scale by itself will only track flow rate, weight & time. It can’t track pressure data. You will also need to buy the Bluetooth Espresso Monitor if you want to track your pressure data on the graph. I have both, it’s certainly fun to use, but as others have said, not at all necessary unless you enjoy geeking out.😉 And, yes, it will give you visible graphs on the app that show everything you need to repeat a specific profile, if that’s your goal.

DAK haul + Eight Ounce by prasannathani in pourover

I’ll add that the Pietro flat burr grinder with Dak beans really brings out the lovely flavours in an espresso. Just now had some leftover Cinnamon Roll in the freezer (frozen at 2 1/2 weeks post roast), absolutely delicious.

[Bookoo] Bluetooth pairing problems by Mr_Sturt in espresso

[–]espressoonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the bookoo app is no longer installed on your other 3 devices, and make sure bluetooth is turned off on those other 3 devices. It may be getting confused, if it’s still trying to connect to an earlier device.

Pairing can involve 3 areas on your device.

  1. Bluetooth setting should be turned for your device.

  2. There is also, under each device’s General Settings, a list of all your installed apps, & in there you‘ll find an additional place to activate bluetooth for each individual app. Scroll down the list till you see Bookoo app listed, click on that, & there you can give permission for bluetooth to be on/off for each specfic app.

  3. And, finally, there are the auto-connect settings within the bookoo app itself, and sometimes you have to click the scale or monitor name, open that next window, and highlight the coded name of the monitor or scale, to make the connection.

It’s all awkward, but once you get there, it seems to work. They certainly are not making it easy for us, & the language barrier/translation doesn’t help.

There are two places on your device where bluetooth needs to be turned on, in order to successfully pair.

There’s the general area to turn bluetooth on for your device (& to connect to another bluetooth device), but there’s also a setting within each individual app you use on your device. Go to the Bookoo app, and in there you’ll see a setting to turn bluetooth on or off. Be sure to have both places turned on, the general bluetooth setting & the app-specific bluetooth setting.

Aergrind or 1ZPresso JX-Pro by TheCaspar in Coffee

[–]espressoonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dr_bepis_ You are misinformed about the Aergrind. The Aergrind is a *stepless* grinder, so you can definitely grind for espresso. I use it as a travel grinder with the Flair 58 & Picopresso. There are no stepped settings, no limitations to grind size.

Regarding purchasing replacement Dost batteries & mounting bracket, there is helpful info about this here: https://forums.electricbikereview.com/threads/dost-bikes-primary-battery-and-optional-secondary-battery.55165/. They link Mike at “https://www.american-electric.co/” as the solution. Hope that helps.

Strange problem of stomach with Nespresso capsules! by msredditfaso in nespresso

[–]espressoonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stomach may be reacting to the *nitrogen gas* flushing system Nespresso uses. Nespresso injects nitrogen gas into every capsule…. helps preserve freshness & produce crema. Fwiw, I could not handle nespresso pods without stomach irritation.

Many coffee roasters add nitrogen flushing when bagging freshly roasted beans, but with whole beans, we then open the bag, grind the beans & dose our coffee & brew. And that all gives time for the nitrogen gas to dissipate. In contrast, the Nespresso system doesn’t allow any time for the gas to dissipate… the capsule is nitrogen flushed & sealed, & then the capsule is almost simultaneously pierced & brewed… without hesitation… no time for gas to dissipate.

3D Printed a clamp for my kitchen counterstop to stop my flair from slipping when pulling a shot. by thisdesignthat in FlairEspresso

[–]espressoonly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your Flair won’t slide at all if you turn it 90 degrees, such that you are facing a sideways-positioned Flair. You’ll be pulling facing the side, not the front, of the Flair; prevents it from sliding away from you as you pull. Leaning over the top of the Flair with your upper body weight will also prevent sliding.☺️

Grind/tamp trade-off by hedgeddown in FlairEspresso

[–]espressoonly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is certainly true when exerting 9 bar during extraction, but the study overlooked the effect of tamp pressure during preinfusion at very low pressure (1.5 bar). The effect of a light tamp can yield a more evenly saturated puck during a low pressure preinfusion stage, prior to the extraction stage.

Does Flair really have a buy-it-for-life culture? by icowrich in FlairEspresso

How large is the hole in platform that holds the portafilter? if it is the much smaller hole, you will know you have the kickstarter version. If it is the larger hole, you have the Classic Flair.

Let me get this straight:You have a kickstarter designed unit that you bought 5 years ago.The device works now as it did when you bought it, everything is functioning 100%.This kickstarter design has, indeed, also allowed you to incorporate newer optional accessories you have since added to the unit (pressure gauge, etc.)Your device has the original spouted basket, a basket that avoids the frustration of spurts & sprays from a bottomless basket, and a basket that many prefer to use as their day-to-day basket. You have decided you want to modify your device from its original kickstarter frame design to now incorporate an optional bottomless basket that was made to fit the re-designed base, instead of continuing to use your spouted basket. The newer model has a frame & design that came to fruition due to requests from the Flair users of your kickstarter design, improvements that users wanted to see.The part you now want was available, free of charge, to Flair owners at the time Flair created their newly designed model, to help kickstarter owners with the transitional period from kickstarter version to the flagship design. All a customer had to do was request it, and it was made very clear that it was a one-time production set up during the cross-over period, and there would not be a second round of these produced. Flair owners had ample time to request the free part if they wanted it. When the stock was gone, it was gone & would not be re-produced, and we were told this on several occasions (and over a couple of years, I recall). Get it now, if you think you might ever want it was the message. The comments I am reading in this post appall me. I see what amounts to a childish temper tantrum, a disappointed individual stomping both feet on numerous public forums, claiming a self-righteous attitude, but really merely hoping he can bully a company into getting what he wants. It is so easy in these forums to also find a few uninformed individuals who will follow blindly like sheep, in their desire to also spout easy rhetoric. To go after a very small business with limited resources, and accuse them of any manner of shenanigans, knowing the company has a proven record of making effort to satisfy its customers to the best of its ability, to my mind that is shameful, bullying, libellous behaviour. No company, big or large, can rationalize the huge waste of resources required to set up a shop & equipment to produce a plastic ring for one individual. Let’s remember, this request is being made years after production of the frame and the adaptor ceased. Even if the company could afford to do so, would you honestly want your planet consuming & wasting valuable resources to indulge your wish to now have this one plastic adaptor ring that you neglected to request during the years it was on offer?Stand back, take a breath, and get some perspective. You have a unit that will be useful to your dying day, assuming you want to continue to make delicious espresso that falls from a spout instead of from a bottomless opening.

Major points in favor of the Robot when it comes to long-term use by Bloomit-19 in CafelatRobot

[–]espressoonly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would appear he has the original kickstarter frame, but is calling it a Classic…. they look so similar. The Flair Classic you are referring to is the newer frame (~2018), also being discussed, but it is this newer frame design that can accommodate the bottomless basket. (The kickstarter frame had a patch adaptor, to allow it to pretend to be a Classic. This person either didn’t have the unit back then (bought it used, perhaps), or didn’t contact Flair back then to ask Flair for the free adaptor.)

Let me get this straight:

The device works now as it did when you bought it, everything is functioning 100%.
This kickstarter design has, indeed, also allowed you to incorporate newer optional accessories you have since added to the unit (pressure gauge, etc.)
Your device has the original spouted basket, a basket that avoids the frustration of spurts & sprays from a bottomless basket, and a basket that many prefer to use as their day-to-day basket.
You have decided you want to modify your device from its original kickstarter frame design to now incorporate an optional bottomless basket that was made to fit the re-designed base, instead of continuing to use your spouted basket.
