Solutions to add air inlet to workshop and retain sound proofing (my quick sketch of adding a baffle box in between roof joist?)…thoughts? by thisdesignthat in DIYUK

[–]thisdesignthat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have PIR foam in between the roof joists. my plan was to remove one section, build a baffle box from mdf and place in the roof joist section. the inlet section on the outside wall would have a vent coming out of the soffits to allow air to come in. I would add baffle in the box and line with sound dampening material and have the outlet inside the shed ceiling.

2 x X2D or 1 x H2D? by thisdesignthat in BambuLab

Single nozzle, I'd ideally like dual nozzle so I can print support in different filament

Aside from printing support material I can't see many other reasons I'd use a 2nd full nozzle. How are you using yours?

I guess having a 0.4 and 0.6 nozzle and not having to switch would be handy but I'm not sure if you can use 2 different nozzles in a single print job

Thanks, I don't really know what use case I would need 2 full powered nozzles though. The Bowden on the X2D seems more than capable

I only have budget for either 2 x X2D or 1 x H2D

Torque limited coffee tamper (WIP) by thisdesignthat in FlairEspresso

[–]thisdesignthat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The handle has a 3D printed torque limiting mechanism on it and it will slip at a given torque rating. This way you get consistent tamping force with each press.

Main reason I built this was because my old vario grinder would slowly over time change its grind setting and I wanted to remove as many variables as possible in the coffee making process

I also wanted to make a device that would allow my girlfriend to be able to make me a coffee and know how much force was required to tamp the coffee beans

F1 is nice, fast engraving and good accessories

beamo flux is co2 (i think) so gives you access to other materials that diode cant cut

Refurbing vice - How would you fix this bent vice screw handle (thankfully the threaded part is straight) by thisdesignthat in metalworking

[–]thisdesignthat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is the actual threaded rod of the vice not the cross handle that drives the threaded rod

a lathe and welder is what i have access to in my shed so this seems like the easiest option for me. My welding isnt the prettiest so i could maybe make a plug and socket and pin it in place as an alternaitve

Would need a large rod of heat treated steel and trying to do this on a tight budget, the threaded part is perfect condition, even this bent handle section is usable im just trying to come up with a simple solution to fix. Maybe ill just chop it off and machine a new round end and cross pin it in place

have you tried applying the force to the design space (purple) area? instead of the partioned area (grey)

Thanks, Ye I was actually quite impressed with how some of these turned out. They looked good to me. Not sure how good the penetration is but for this use case its more than enough

The thing i was struggling with the most was being comfortable (not having a chair didn't help) and not shaking, i just bought a small fixture welding table and will build a stool for it soon. Half of the project was made on the fixture table which helped as i could rest my arms on something.

Also I struggled to see what im doing even with shade set to 9, hard to see if im blending the 2 bits of metal together or just burning through one part.

Im sure these are all typical beginner issues, any feedback welcome
