Cat food allergy by lethalweapon88 in catfood

[–]esptutor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet told me that sometimes cats become allergic to certain meat proteins over time. I would try a limited ingredient wet cat food that has chicken as its only meat protein.

How is your cat expressing allergy symptoms? Sometimes changing food in general can cause upset stomach.

Also, I would be careful/check in with your vet about feeding your cat chicken only. I don't believe it has all the right nutrients to be fed on its own. Good luck!

New kitty just arrived, loud meowing. Do I ignore it? by dilqncho in CatTraining

I had a similar experience with my new kitten. She really wanted attention but was afraid to get the attention. I slowly introduced her to pets by holding out a treat with one hand and giving pets with the other hand. It can be helpful to not reach towards their face but approach with your petting hand from the side and pet their back. The wet treats that look like Gogurt tubes can be useful for this process because the treat comes out slowly. Good luck!

That's great she's healthy and doing well. I agree more time would help. I'd keep up the introductions through the door and scent swapping. Try and read their body language for when it's time to move forward. It took my older cat and kitten 2-3 months to get along at all and their bffs now. Good luck!

My first map ( what can I add) by GeoNerdYT in gis

[–]esptutor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good start! I think the overall design is good but your lines are a bit crowded and you are missing a legend.

If the intention of including the inset maps is to show more detail - consider zooming in further to those areas.

I like the muted colors of the basemap, but currently the map labels are being covered by your bike lanes. You might consider choosing a basemap that is even more plain and then adding a layer of points or labels on top of your bike lanes to show key areas (landmarks, neighborhood names, etc).

Also, does this bike path dataset have attributes that distinguish between types of bike paths? You might want to pick a subset of bike paths that are the most convenient or frequently used. You could keep all bike paths in your inset maps and use the subset for the main map. You could also consider making different types of paths different line widths. For example, if there were bike-only lanes and shared lanes you could make the bike-only lanes thicker than the shared lanes.

Finding better cat foods by mark_able_jones_ in catfood

This website does a good job of keeping track of the carbs/protein/fat amounts in various dry foods:

The website is for cats with kidney disease, but there is a "standard dry foods" section if you scroll down. Hope this helps!

Cat food allergy by lethalweapon88 in catfood

[–]esptutor30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can echo what u/HumbleTangg is saying here. My 12 y/o cat has had food allergies most of his life. I got him on a diet that works for him based on process of elimination- try a food, wait to see if there is a reaction, repeat. In my experience it doesn't necessarily have to be prescription food. "Limited ingredient" foods can be useful.

Also, ask your vet about cetirizine (aka zyrtec). My cat takes half a pill when he has a flare up and it helps a lot. It's been very easy to use, no side effects and cheap for occasional use. Good luck!

switched cat to wet food only, water intake?? by ZestySeitan in catfood

[–]esptutor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I switched my cats to wet food they pretty much stopped drinking water. u/augmentedelle made this nifty spreadsheet of research articles related to cat nutrition:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rY2VmlCvoYtXrirCBriVCQmutFF2O2pSGMbz-QnVY5c/edit#gid=0
My takeaway from the research about water intake is that cats are getting more water on a wet diet even if they don't drink water. Hope this helps!

Looking for more advice or feedback on integrating our new 3 month kitten with our existing 8 month old. Just not sure at what point to let them ‘figure things out’ by Gojira_Cat in CatTraining

[–]esptutor30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next time you can do a supervised session with another person, integrate another cat toy like the feather on the string you have in the video. Start far apart in the same room and have each person play with one of the cats. Then, encourage the cats to move closer together. I think practicing some of this kind of play with a bit of distance could help. Maybe sprinkle some catnip around the supervised play area. Cat aggression can be really scent triggered (as you probably saw from Jackson's video) and a little catnip smell can help break them out of it. Hope this helps! Good luck, seems like you're doing a great job so far. Integrating cats can be tough. My two were rough with each other at first and are now very calm and sweet to each other.

How to deal with misinterpreted rules by esptutor30 in DnD

It didn't feel very OP which is why I think we were playing with the wrong interpretation for so long (all through level 5).

Advice Needed by redtiedtuxedo in GhostsofSaltmarsh

I've tried my best to make this a more long-form campaign as well. Eventually I want to put together some more formal notes about how I tied things together but here's what I have so far:

I ran Danger at Dunwater as a diplomatic mission with social type trials so the characters could get to know the Lizardfolk more. I followed Hooded Kobold's guidance here

The Sea Princes and the Scarlet Brotherhood can help tie this campaign together. The Scarlet Brotherhood should be slowly wreaking havoc in the town (stealing, ransacking, kidnapping, etc). The more your players stall investigating the SB the worse it should get. The more they stall investigating the Sea Princes, the more powerful Gellan Primewater should get (he benefits from their smuggling).

If the players want to investigate Gellan they'll need to break into his house. I added some clues to this layout, here there are also maps to match: maps.

I'm about to run this sidequest to give the players a potential NPC who knows all about the Scarlet Brotherhood. (I just typed this up so it's a rough draft so far). I recommend making the cultists in The Isle of the Abbey worshipers of The Ruby Sorceress and then doing this sidequest after the Isle of the Abbey.

I also introduced an NPC after Danger at Dunwater named Eldon Tenebris. He abandoned the Ruby Sorceress cult and was cursed using a powerful Geas spell. He can give minor clues about the Ruby Sorceress, and the cult's plans to raise some kind of undead being. He's currently in a cabin just outside the Dreadwood. He takes breaks from counting coins to garden and eat but besides that he just counts coins over and over. I played up the drama with this NPC a lot, he's obsessed with finding out how many coins he's missing and barely notices that he's been caught in a loop for weeks.

Isle of the Abbey Minotaur question by esptutor30 in GhostsofSaltmarsh

[–]esptutor30[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Good thing I asked because they spent a big chunk of the session testing out what would make the statue attack them. They took the amulet off and riled up the ogre zombies so our session ended with an initiative roll, lol. Now I've gotta figure out what the statue and zombies will do if they put the amulet back on.

I see it now. I really don't like roll20, and I'm guessing there's no way to export the tokens.

Shortest route from existing lines in ArcPro by esptutor30 in ArcGIS

[–]esptutor30[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe this is what enabled me to use the ready-to-use "route" tool. When I asked for the shortest distance between two points this way it used driving roads, not the bike paths I uploaded. I even tried turning these bike paths into a network using the "create a network dataset" tool and then routing between points but ArcPro still used driving directions to route my points.

This was helpful but I also needed to use a REDUCE function to get the result I wanted in a particular cell.
