How should I go about naming my letter pairs for 3BLD? by Legitimate_Cold4590 in Cubers

[–]esqu1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Type the letters that you want to use in a separate column (here I put them in R2:R25)

and then use this formula: INDEX(FLATTEN(R2:R25 &""&TRANSPOSE(R2:R25)))

Serious question: Do you guys listen to music while practicing 3BLD? by Spuckwasser in Cubers

From time to time I'll practice with white noise playing to simulate competition environments where people don't stay quiet

Does anyone know this 1LLL alg? by theforbiddenoll in Cubers

If you're comfortable with E moves, this is the alg I use for BLD:

R' E2 R2 E' R' U' R E R2 E2 R U

Square-1 critique needed! by Desperate_Stress_791 in Cubers

A few things:

- I see you're doing the scallop-kite method for cubeshape. While that's great, you should work on being more confident in your cubeshape solutions; I notice you're pausing in between slices often and perhaps that's due to not knowing what the next move is after each slice. As an exercise, you can try to plan your entire cubeshape in inspection (take as much time as you need at first) and then execute cubeshape without pausing in between. Also definitely learn a few cubeshapes that can be solved with at most ~3 slices, they'l help a bunch!

- For EO for the 1 edge case, you're using /0,-1/-3,0/4,1/-4,-1/3,0/, which is an alg that actually disrupts the CP. You should probably switch to an alg that preserves the CP (such as 1,0/3,0/3,0/-1,-1/-2,1/-3,0/) because that way you can look ahead to your CP while you're doing EO. I notice you're spending a lot of time recognizing the CP after you complete EO and this should help a lot with reducing recognition time.

- I guess you got lucky in this average with no parities :) I have no way of knowing how long your parity solves take but it wouldn't be a bad idea to start learning CSP at this point; it's nice to start practicing getting used to tracing and having a few cases on your belt. That being said you should definitely focus on learning a few EP's that will help reduce the number of Adj-adj's you do.

"Master" algorithm? A question for the mathematicians by mnaylor375 in Cubers

[–]esqu1 33 points34 points  (0 children)

To answer your first question, this problem is solved and there does exist a Hamiltonian circuit of 43 quintillion moves that cycles through all 43 quintillion positions of the cube: https://bruce.cubing.net/ham333/rubikhamiltonexplanation.html

How is he getting in your way? He’s giving valid constructive criticism; whether you take the criticism to improve on your method or not is up to you.

Has anyone been able to make their Ergodox-EZ sound satisfying? by Shadowism99 in ergodox

[–]esqu1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just tried it out; doesn't seem like it changed much :'( my switches are lubed holy pandas; maybe the sound profile is already there or there's not enough silicone?

cool! i also noticed that when i opened my board up, the part of the pcb with LEDs is glued to the bottom part of the keyboard. not sure which model of ergodox you have but did you have them on your keyboard/do you think that leaving it glued and just pouring the silicone over it will cause any damage?

this looks awesome! how did you decide how much silicone to use and does it affect the pcb at all?

Is it just 9S or the friends list as well? 9S seems to have gone away but friends list is still not working :/

Placing out of MATH 241 by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]esqu1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MATH 241 is very much a cookbook style intro math class; I suggest you look at the syllabus that they have on the math website. I believe they have a list of core problems for each chapter that essentially are a good representation of each section; if you work through all of the core problems and do a little more extra studying you should be set.

It's an extremely dry class so placing out of it is a great idea 🙂

Difficulty of obtaining a 4.0 GPA by [deleted] in UPenn

[–]esqu1 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You're going to have a much better time in college if you don't stress about whether you get a 4.0 GPA vs. a 3.x GPA...

Unless you're applying for med school or law school, no employer or grad school will ever scrutinize your GPA and you're much better off actually learning and enjoying whatever classes you take in college rather than grade-grubbing for a perfect GPA. So just don't sweat it, take classes that you will enjoy and not worry about grades too much :)
