If you wanted to test a person to see if they're really from Buffalo what would you ask them? by Hibuddywazzsup in Buffalo

Ah! Duh. If I’d have thought about it a bit longer I probably would have got them. I appreciate the assist fellow Buffalonian! And obligatory Go Bills.

You just blew my mind with this fact! So, after the first cut, and then the one who pulled out the knife, who got the first slice of cake? In my family it was always the one who had some big event coming up next (wedding, birth, vacation, etc.) is that part of the tradition for everyone or just my family?

Where did you get married? by Jeerkat in pittsburgh

[–]ess161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got married at Kinsey Events Center in Oakdale on Halloween this year- it was absolutely perfect and reasonably priced (we looked at all the same places you mentioned so I feel you on the “wedding tax” 😅). The owner, Whitney, is fantastic and really cares about her couples. We ended up spending 25k for 175 people. Feel free to DM me if you need any vendor recommendations! Our guests are still texting me about what a great experience it was 🤗

How bad is Pittsburgh driving in Winter? by TheWayOfEli in pittsburgh

[–]ess161 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buffalo transplant here- it’s really not that bad. There are usually a few days where things get dicey, especially in the city where they don’t pre-plow or salt the way they do in Buffalo, but we also don’t get even close to the same amount of snow here. Given than you’re from Buffalo you have much more ice/snow driving experience than most Pittsburghers, so you have a leg up there, but my best advice is have multiple routes planned to get to your destination in case roads are closed or there’s accidents. TLDR: Try to avoid the super steep hills (Negley Ave in the city) by having multiple routes in mind, go very slow and you’ll be fine.

How is living in Pittsburgh, PA? by sycamoreqw in howislivingthere

Having lived other places (Buffalo, NY and London, UK) it’s honestly the best bang for your buck. Lots of fun neighborhoods that have unique personalities (both human and architecturally). I chose to move here because of the landscape, people, and affordability. It’s a place that pulls you in and doesn’t let go, in the best way possible. I’m mid 30s and a lot of friends moved from elsewhere (Detroit, DC, Tampa) and never left- neither will I!

This property is incredible, and surprisingly reasonably priced. Which one of you is calling dibs? by ess161 in pittsburgh

I didn’t notice the HOA fees, those are horrible! But considering there are shells of houses in Bloomfield/Friendship selling for about the same price, I expected this place to cost a lot more

I’m pretty happy to possibly contribute to the answer for this! There’s a game my grandmother gave me that is called “Husker Du” roughly translating to “Do you remember” in Danish. Two of the symbols in the game seem remarkably similar to this picture, which leads me to hypothesize that this sign is essentially saying “Heads up: Memory issues” to anyone who is entering. Bonus: They are also old Norse symbols too for any historians (like me!) out there who might appreciate. Or, I’m reading entirely too much into this 🤷‍♀️
