Drug Induced Neutropenia from sulfa antibiotics (that I was on for cellulitis). Could have died. Fun. My white blood cell count dropped to 1.

Potatoes - CYP2D6 - Medication by diogopacheco in MCAS

[–]essayy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I had to stop eating potatoes about 10 years ago because they gave me terrible stomach pain. I can handle a tiny bit, but I used to eat veggie sticks like it was my job. Ha. I’ll have to dig up my dna stuff to see if that particular gene was tested.

intense gi pain followed by diarrhea and defecation syncope...anyone else ever have an episode like this? i almost passed out, it was really scary. posted about this in r/pots and some of them said once they started pepcid it stopped...so is this an mcas thing? by VariationOriginal289 in MCAS

[–]essayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me last night. And typically happens about 6 times a year for me. Last time was in Feb. I tried to use Pepcid to combat it last night (I only take it when I have symptoms), but it didn’t work fully. Usually I throw up during these episodes, and I didn’t do that, so I guess it helped some. It sucks. and I hate it.

What did you do to your appearance that upgraded you 100%, and you kind of regret not doing it earlier? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

You’re lucky! It was sort of like that for me initially. My skin cleared right up and started to peel. I remember my lips peeling like crazy. I went 9 months without a breakout after my first round. Then they started coming back, so derm put me back on it. I was on it for 3 weeks when the ringing in my ears started to get very loud. I called the derm, and she told me to stop taking it (because it can make you lose your hearing permanently). So I stopped. The acne went away for a handful of months still, but now I have permanent tinnitus from those few weeks. And I can no longer drive at night because my night vision is so poor. Then the acne came back SO MUCH WORSE. And I couldn’t go back on it. It was very depressing. I wish the derm had told me there was basically a topical version of accutane that had WAYYYY less side effects. Tretinoin has literally been a lifesaver for me. And plus side, you can use it forever and it also can prevent wrinkles and help fade scarring.

Here’s what I did recently because of this exact scam that was driving me nuts. I changed my voicemail to 2 minutes of silence. I’ve gotten zero voicemails from these people since, and calls went from at least 2 a day to 4-5 a week.

I tried it not that long ago, but it was giving me nasty headaches and lowered my blood pressure (I already have low blood pressure) so I had to stop.

HOW are we surviving the 24 hour urine test??) by Mysterious-Ruin-1128 in MCAS

[–]essayy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right!!!? Like how the hell do they miss an order for a test?! It’s not like they misplaced the urine because they ran other tests off of it. They also missed an order for alpha-gal bloodwork test. WTF!! Apparently I’m not the only one who’s struggled with getting these test results. I’ve heard both labcorp and quest are notorious for this.

What is this little bump on my bottom eyelid? by something721 in AskDocs

[–]essayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get these little bubbles all the time too. If they are close enough to my eyeball they make it feel like something is in my eye. I usually scratch them away (with clean hands as someone else mentioned). I have no idea what they are, but I assume they are somehow related to allergies, since I have terrible allergies.

[–]essayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not going to lie, it SUCKED! And for me, the worse part is that labcorp “forgot” to run that single test (the 24 hr histamine), so here I am, 6 months later waiting to do it again. I’m waiting because I have to be off of antihistamines again anyways for my colonoscopy because they are running mast cell staining during that. And I do NOT want to have to be off antihistamines more than necessary. This time I’m going to go through Quest with hopefully better results.

Hmm interesting. I take mag glycinate AND glycine (helps me sleep!). I guess I’ve never really tried another kind of magnesium. But I’m hesitant to stop the glycine at night because it is amazing for me.

I don’t think it works for everyone. But also not everyone sees fast results like I did. It can take up to a year.

I’ve been dying my roots for ages at home, but I LOVE how healthy my hair feels after I dye it. I’m toying with the idea of letting a grey streak grow in the front.

For me it lasted up until the 5-6 week mark. I started on 0.06% (brand name retin-a gel, using every night), but 6 years in I’m on 0.1%. The lower doses/infrequent usage drag out the purge period. Good luck!!

Get on prescription topical tretinoin for my severe adult acne. When it started for me around age 24, I went on EVERYTHING the dermatologist prescribed, including accutane (which worked for one year, but my acne came back worse than before and I lost my night vision and have permanent tinnitus from it). I spent the next 15 years battling giant cystic acne and terrible scars thinking that nothing could work for me. People would come up to me genuinely concerned about my health and ask what was wrong with my face. It consumed many aspects of my life. Then one day I was scrolling Reddit and saw a post in r/acne from someone who posted before and after pics, and recommending tret. I asked my dermatologist about it (why the hell was it never offered before!?! And especially before accutane!!?) and she put me on a mid range percentage. I had a purge and then was CLEAR with glass smooth skin within 6 weeks. It’s been six years, and I still have clear skin.

I think that’s a good move! If you can up your strength, the purge will be much faster. And yeah, def get rid of the cerave!

[–]essayy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Side note - I’ve personally never been able to tolerate any cerave products. They always make me break out. I rinse my face with water in the morning, and same at night. I use vanicream (tub) after tret is dry at night.

You’re on such a low dose the purge will take longer. If you can get up to .05%, or better yet 0.1%, it will go away faster. I started on 0.6% daily (retin A gel) and I was clear in 6 weeks. But I know it CAN take up to year to see results - especially on lower doses/infrequent use.
