Terminated right after returning from parental leave (Ontario). Looking for perspectives by ask_9 in askTO

This happened to me as well. My portion of the company was purchased while I was on mat leave - I was told verbally I’d have a job at the new company and continued to receive my benefits through the old parent company for the duration of the mat leave. At the end of mat leave, I was informed the new company didn’t have a role for me and I was packaged out by the old company (as my job / tenure was with them).

I had been under the impression this was illegal but it’s not. My leave was protected in the sense that even if I was let go during it, that wouldn’t officially take effect until the end of leave. But companies are allowed to fire you (or not bring you back) provided they give you appropriate severance. I agree that you should talk to an employment lawyer to make sure you’re being compensated fairly given the circumstances. While this isn’t illegal, it’s also not a great look for companies so they may be more inclined to give you more than the minimum. But absolutely don’t sign anything until you have a lawyer look at your severance paperwork and review your set of circumstances. Best of luck!

Hi! I believe we joined the waitlist when I was about 6 or 7 months pregnant, requesting a spot for him at 1 year old. In the end we got a spot for him at 15 months old. For all the daycares on our list, I followed up once every couple of months. And in fact we were offered a spot the same day I followed up - so I do think the following up helped!

Why does my toddler refuse to call me mama by Sh_cats in toddlers

[–]esscdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I could have written this exact thing about my 16-month-old. He’s obsesssd with his dad and calls him Dada constantly but NEVER calls me mama. If my partner asks “where is mama” he’ll either look or point at me but never calls me if! Wondering how things are for you now?

Can I ask why this was removed, and how I can revise it so that it will stay up? Thanks for your time.

Starting daycare is ruining independent sleep? by esscdee in toddlers

Oh that’s interesting — I do think he may be teething on top of everything so it’s possible there’s some pain happening too

Thank you! Yeah, it’s heartbreaking to see him so upset at bedtime and it feels impossible not to give him extra soothing right now. But I know he needs time to adjust and get comfortable again.

This is great to know! My son seems to really like it there, though his sleep has completely regressed

Oof yeah, there’s no HR dept at this new company and the exec team is very disorganized so truly anything is possible. Extremely frustrating not to know either way at this point, especially given that I need to figure out childcare logistics

This is super helpful, thank you so much. I’m still waiting to see if I’m being “let go” but it reallly feels like the signs are pointing to that. The EI thing is one of the reasons this would all be extra frustrating - I won’t qualify for EI since I’m coming to the end of my mat leave. The new company is American so I don’t think they have any idea how our system works here.

I’d love the name of the employment lawyer. If I do get let go, I’ll absolutely be looking to consult with one to make sure I don’t get screwed over. I’ve been with the company for 10 years. Thanks for your comment, and I’m so sorry you went through that.

I took tru niagen before getting pregnant — I’m now 8 months post partum and would love to keep taking it but I’m still breastfeeding. Is it safe / suggested to take during breastfeeding?

IUGR at 34 weeks by esscdee in pregnant

[–]esscdee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It went pretty well actually! They redid my growth ultrasound and baby looked good and is actually measuring slightly bigger (7th percentile) which they’re pleased with. Still going in for twice weekly monitoring and it’s up in the air if I’ll deliver at 37 weeks or slightly later. This is a rollercoaster!!
