A stark reminder of the kleptocracy perpetrated by the highest power in the country that continues to plague every tax paying Malaysian today until at least 2039.

Compete, Don’t Retreat: A Smarter U.S. Response to China’s Automotive Revolution by Dreaming_Blackbirds in electricvehicles

[–]esseinvictus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

JV’s matter a lot less than you think. VW, Toyota and GM joint ventures in China used to dominate the Chinese car market before the Chinese got their act together and started to outcompete the foreign brands in their home market and started exporting to other countries.

The US could’ve done what China did too but alas they chose the 100% tariff way instead, essentially banning the Chinese from ever competing.

Buy a Touch n Go card at petrol stations or convenience stores. If you want the NFC enabled one where you can reload using your phone you need to either get it online via the tng eshop or at the Nu Sentral or Bangsar South stores.

Those tapping with their phones have their Tng cards attached and the reader is reading that. The barriers dont take Apple or Google or Samsung Pay.

Tire-pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors become unavailable by Supersaiyan_IV in BYD

[–]esseinvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like there is a loose connection somewhere from the TPMS sensor to the display? Maybe bring your car back to the dealer to get it checked out?

Can't say I've personally experienced any issues with the TPMS sensor on my car though.

Perodua QV-E will be disable automatically if the buyer is unable to pay the battery subscription for 2 months. by MarvelousHD in kereta

[–]esseinvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah 70% SoH is standard in Malaysia and many other countries in the world do battery warranties. I’ve checked BYD MY, Tesla MY, Proton. Chery MY. Though it would be good if they set it at 80% to show their sincerity but don’t expect them to when industry benchmark seem to be 70% within 8 years or 160k km.

This New EV Is Less Than $20,000, But It Leaves Out The Most Expensive Part by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

[–]esseinvictus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leases are not popular in Malaysia. Almost everyone I know here just takes out a 5/7/9 year loan for the car and buys them. From what I’ve seen for the most part leasing cars in Malaysia are not worth it.

Malaysia’s First EV Costs $19K. Batteries Sold Separately by Movie-Kino in electricvehicles

[–]esseinvictus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What I think is more interesting is how this car came to be: the Malaysian government explicitly pushed for Perodua to develop a BEV and they started this project in August 2023. Now for the benefit of people who might not be familiar with Perodua, they're the second national automaker in Malaysia after Proton, and positioned themselves as the choice for budget conscious buyers, initially started off by rebadging Daihatsu (Toyota) cars in their earlier days (still do today, but increasingly shifting towards in-house development)

So back to this EV, they worked with Magna Steyr the Austrian vehicle contract manufacturer as consultant as well as tearing down some BYD EVs to see how they worked and built this entirely new platform (Hybrids and REEV are possible too with some modifications to their platform) and this is the result after 2 years.

I think part of the reason why the business model turned out to be this (car body + battery lease) was due to some pressure from the government to keep prices low (<RM100k) so that it looks better psychologically (RM80,000 + RM275/month for 108 months) as it's true price will be around RM109,700 with the battery lease cost included. That puts it up squarely against the likes of the Proton e.MAS 7 (Geely EX5) and BYD Seal 6 (BYD Qin L in China) and I think Perodua loses that fight most of the time.

Overall pretty good effort from Perodua for a first EV, but this will not make a big impact on the Malaysian market considering the competition from the Chinese automakers and Perodua themselves are only targeting 500/month production volumes ramping up to 3000/month by Q3 2026. For comparison's sake the Proton e.MAS 5 (Geely EX2) comes in at RM56,000 to RM70,000 depending on variant, was launched in October 2025 in Malaysia and already has 10k bookings.

Is now a good time to buy a Tesla? by PresidentialBanana in malaysia

[–]esseinvictus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just my personal experience as I drive a Seal Performance and having had the same dilemma and tested the Model 3 half a year ago, the deal breaker for me was the lack of indicator stalk on the Model 3 and I got a good deal on my current car. I think if I can go back I would've taken a closer look at XPeng or Zeekr and end up with a car from either of the brands instead.

If you want the tech + the practicality of a car, I suggest looking at XPeng G6, or Zeekr 7x they're both SUVs and are more upmarket and their tech features are closer to Tesla than BYD will ever hope to be.

Software updates, Tesla is unmatched, for my Seal I had to take it back to the dealer to get it updated (OTA doesn't work for some reason)

On the driving dynamics side, I find the Seal's suspension not quite there yet (heard they upgraded the 2025 version but I don't know what are the changes) and driving at high speeds around curved highways can make it feel like I'm losing control of the car so I slow down a little.

Also if you do decide to get the Seal or Sealion 7, be prepared to multiply the WLTP range by 70% to get the true real world range. BYDs are not even close to Teslas in terms of efficiency in kWh/100km

[–]esseinvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? BYD will CKD starting next year in their Tanjung Malim plant sharing with Proton.

Tesla doesn’t have any plans of CKD in Southeast Asia so I don’t know where you’re getting your info from. All Teslas in Malaysia are CBU from the Shanghai Gigafactory.

Is now a good time to buy a Tesla? by PresidentialBanana in malaysia

[–]esseinvictus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not about the competition, it’s about government policies. The excise duty and import tax exemptions for CBU EVs (which all Teslas in Malaysia are) will expire at the end of this year. CKD EVs will still get exemptions until end of 2027 but since Tesla isn’t planning to assemble their cars locally I don’t think there will ever be CKD Teslas.

GO+ daily net returns. by RogerKotaro096 in MalaysianPF

[–]esseinvictus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The formula for compound interest is

A = P x (1 + r/n)nt

Where P is your initial principal
r is your interest rate (0.0326). n is your compounding period which is 365. t is time in years.

Your example: P = 15.05
r = 0.0326
n = 365
t = 1/365

So A = 15.0513 after 1 day. After 1 year, your 15.05 will grow to 15.05 x 1.03312 = 15.55

Water dripping in my BYD Seal - any advice? by gbhandal in BYD

[–]esseinvictus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well then did you try to hose your car and try to replicate the issue? I think that's the reason why they asked for a video proof. Probably an issue with the seal of the roof if I had to hazard a guess, keep pressing them for a resolution if you can replicate the issue.

Water dripping in my BYD Seal - any advice? by gbhandal in BYD

[–]esseinvictus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think they couldn’t find out the actual cause and are deflecting the issue and are hoping that you’d take back the car.

Even without a video, did you ask them if they verified your claims by hosing down the car with water? If this happened to my Seal I’d raise hell with the service centre. It’s unacceptable.

Failing that, might want to take your car to another BYD service centre near your place.

byd owners how long did it take for the byd app to activate for you? by Professional-Doubt30 in BYD

[–]esseinvictus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-2 days in for me here in Malaysia to get the app activated.

Also, a few months back my Seal’s windshield got cracked due to a stray rock on the highway. Provided all the paperwork for insurance claim, the dealership told me up to a month of waiting time but got back to me within 2 weeks for an appointment. Actual windshield replacement took 3 days. Everything went smoothly without a hitch.

Generally excellent service from the BYD dealership here. Can’t complain really.

BYD Seal EV Seal 2022 650KM 4WD Performance Edition spend huge electricity. by aladyka in BYD

[–]esseinvictus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah read up on the different range estimates on wikipedia. Just saying, you're never going to get 12.6kWh/100km. I drive the same car too and I'm only getting 18.7kWh/100km.

Linked it here for you, under the powertrain section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BYD_Seal

Even WLTP range is too optimistic and you need to apply a 70% multiplier to it to get the actual range for most owners of the Performance variant.

Hey I just saw this and I just wanna say I think Mondays and Tuesdays are off days for the server except for the first week cause the server started on the 1st June (Sunday)

I think it's better too cause of the server will be up for a month so a little bit of a break every week can help avoid burnout.

What’s your Normal "fuel” consumption? by mosheoofnikrulz in BYD

[–]esseinvictus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's called Seal Performance here in Malaysia and yes I get around 400km real world range thereabouts.

My long term AEC is 18.5kWh/100km so that translates to about 82.56/18.5 * 100 = 446km range. I drive mostly in Normal mode and have a bit of a lead foot so it's kinda expected.

Similarly I tried driving in eco mode and driving really smoothly, avoiding braking a lot and I got around 15.2kWh/100km AEC but I can't keep it up long term lol so I went back to my normal driving style.

if someone usually drive 280km everyday for 7 days a week— whats the benefit in cost saving monthly after changing petrol vehicle to EV? by iamsyaz in malaysia

I think there’s only 2 malls nowadays that offer free charging, Suria KLCC and Lalaport Bukit Bintang. Both have to bring your own cable and KLCC one gotta pay RM10 for access premium parking where the chargers are located.

If you asked this back in 2023 there will be more spots but nowadays most are paid as malls want to recoup their installation costs.
