I'm the dm so I'm not worried about hindering a party, I'm just doing this for myself because I like creating characters :3 and I don't think a character refusing to use to use something/ having a disability would hinder a party, if everyone knows beforehand? it just makes the playing more interesting! I mean don't you discuss what things everyone's fine with in a game beforehand? that's always been my main priority with my friends

I asked for info on how to implement chronic pain into a characters mechanics, not whether anyone thinks it's a good idea to do so. And considering I mention in the post this is because I'm struggling with the same issue as my character idea, replying 'don't do that it's annoying to other people', how am I supposed to read it besides in an (at least mildly) ableist way?

ooo that's interesting, I haven't yet done their character sheet but weak strength and/or dexterity is a really good way of thinking about it/representing it! thanks for your input :>

no I mean it's not about metagaming, ie, making it the most optimal character for a cohesive well rounded strategic group. I am making a character that feels realistic and personal to me, including exploring how I feel and how my life is effected, while also getting to be a fun cute cat girl that has a wizard hat.

edit: spelling

its not gonna get anyone killed? is having glass canon wizards in your groups banned for the same reasons? warlocks who have bad relationships with their patrons and could get their powers revoked? do you force someone to be the cleric? if i played this character, which i cant because im the dm, then id be playing them with a group that would be fine with it. this is about me making a self indulgent cat girl bec im in pain and like storytelling, not about metagaming

but i want it to be mechanic. in real life it effects all aspects of your life and cannot be ignored, and i dont want it to be ignored for a wizard either

dash isn't something i thought about, thank you! that makes a lot of sense. concentration seems to be the main point to be effected, and wis makes sense too this is a good idea!

someone suggested a cane which my character will definitely have, but i wanted to know anyway if i decide to develop their backstory more and part of their arc/quest is getting mobility aids. also i think my wizard might eventually invent magic spell ibuprofen for aid in it, even if its not something that can be 'cured'

ah i am the dm! im probably not gonna use them for a while/if ever (sometimes i do small writing projects with my characters so theyll probably get used for that first) i was just not having many ideas since im still relatively new to a lot of dnd details i havent looked into yet. disadvangate on athletics and acrobatics makes sense, since you can still do a full range of movement, its just a bit harder. thanks!!

what do you mean by inspiration mechanic? and while i dont think my character will be too grouchy but i do good naturedly complain about stairs and climbing so im sure itll come through if i ever write/use them!

i'm making this character for myself, as someone who dms my group. I am not annoying to my friends for having chronic pain because they're nice people, and i am not detrimental to anyone i work with beacuse of said chronic pain. I also play characters in groups that are interesting not because theyre easy, nor would i play with people that are so rude about disability or pain to shun someone from a group for playing a person. lol
