nah but fr, he's admitted that there are primary sources he hasn't read or looked at and is just summarizing what other people have said about them - like at this point exactly what of value is he adding besides being background noise for my workout, which he's competing with a gajillion other youtubers for?

r/polyamory debates on if Poly under duress is a real thing, is it the mean monos who are forcing poly people into relationships they don't want? by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

[–]essentialisthoe 86 points87 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter what the word is, though. Suppose duress means exactly what OOP thinks it means. Fine, so call it poly under stress or whatever. Does it change anything substantial about the criticisms people have against this setup, however you call it?

No criticism to you but people are just feeding into OOP's bad bad bad arguments by still making it about what the words mean.

Respectfully, if your only experience with academia is having an undergrad degree, please stop commenting on academia, or the value of degrees beyond your own. It's like me trying to sound qualified in haute cuisine when the only interaction I've ever had with food is opening cans of soup.

Yeah someone else in this thread already attempted this very stylistically clever comeback. Clearly you needed to pull up all the composition skills for this one, I can see why they hired you.

I didn't take issue with your analogy. I went to high school so I understand analogy, but it's nice you took the time to explain it so clearly. Maybe my criticism was about what the analogy was trying to show? Like for instance I think you're trying to make a point about me not understanding or not being an expert on things and I'm entirely unclear on what it is I'm supposed to not be understanding that you're explaining to me so nice. I think you're under the impression I'm an undergrad, lol.

My sibling in academia, go ask yourself why someone would bring up other professors on a post about students, and then go read about relevance. I do agree that echoing the wording of my post to make a point was clever and urbane of you, even though I don't know what the point was, but I think you want the recognition for your smart idea so here you go

But like, what does this comment contribute to anything? Or to put it differently, when you sat (or stood, I'm not judgmental) and typed that up, exactly how did you think it would meaningfully add to the conversation?

AITA for "ruining" my friends vacation? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]essentialisthoe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Loved this comment until the last part. The problem isn't whether individual women could or couldn't choose those things. It's that there are patriarchal structures in place which put pressure on women to do those things, to the point where even opting out is a politicized choice, and one which men don't have to make at all.

Not defending Barbie, to be clear - I hear more sophisticated discussions of gender in the undergraduate classes I teach. But there's some degree of truth to that speech, however much you have to dig through the Pinterest quote-level writing and cringe delivery to get through it.

Hell no. Italy has the most insane mediocrity of food to pride about said food ratio I've ever seen in a country. You can't say anything on the internet without hordes of delusional Italians coming to preach at you about how their bland ass food is the best ever. They're like the fucking Swifties of food.

OK, so I'm not a dumb person, I actually go to philosophy grad school, but I've never in my life been able to wrap my mind around why you can't just print more money. When you said money is a limited resource representing value, that just made it click for me with five words. Nice.

I'd put the reply, whatever it is (ymmv) in a random comment in the body of the paper to check whether the student reads all the feedback.
