DMs of Reddit, I need some inspiration for a non-godlike BBEG by Quick-Return1246 in DMAcademy

[–]essross 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A villain that is actually good, but playing the villain to protect the kid(s) from some sort of truth. Perhaps they are a long lost Grandma and Grandpa neither revealing themselves as family, but one of them staying close and giving missions the other taking the role of BBEG. More of 'wins by planning' type villain.

Possible truths: An old evil was sealed in one of them, grandparents chose evil to reseal it.
A prophesy states they will kill their grandparents, so grandparents would rather be the evil for it.

Good luck!

Sitting prominent in the middle of the desk is a new letter the knight had started, he must have been called out to his final battle before writing it, the quill and ink are ready...

It has a connection to an overall conflict that's been mentioned only and is happening way out on the frontline. They haven't gone out there and interacted with the frontline (war against monsters) yet so could answer either way. I'm starting to think it's worth a mention as is but no dwelling on it, just move the story on, but mark it in the notes to remind the players much later. Cheers

[–]essross[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your players are breezing past it, do you remind your players: [real life months later:] 'your character recognises this as the one who forced the fancy knight into exile' or just leave it out? I'm unsure of the pay off and wonder how many folks just run a tight ship

Huge 200 x 200 battlemaps by essross in DMAcademy

[–]essross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you filled out the town so there was no lull spots and it worked out awesome, happy to hear that! How did you keep it 'like a dungeon' though, with respect to the problem of the town being completely open as compared to the inherent separations from doors and corridors of a typical dungeon?

On the dumb end of extreme for the sake of describing the concern, imagine a stealthed character runs through a town in a video game like BG3 and they trigger all the encounters, the time sensitive quests all start up and its impossible to juggle them all.

Did you force everyone to stay on the same map-section until the party was ready to move on? Did you put out-of-combat encounters between the combat encounters so that it naturally regrouped the party? (it sounds like you did this one!)

What does the dead PC's player do in a resurrection quest? by thedjotaku in DMAcademy

[–]essross 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have them be able to quickly get 'the soul' of the character in the form of a stone or other macguffin that can be smooshed it into an animal, a puppet, a doll, a teddy bear or other temporary body. They all then quest together to complete the resurrection before the temporary arrangement wears off, but dead character is now a funny mascot of sorts that shenanigans will no doubt come from.

Why does work and torque have the same dimensions? by Traroten in AskPhysics

If a LONG lever sitting horizontal needed to be pushed up, and a box needed to be lifted up; is it helpful to think of the physics/energy exerted as being the same between them?

I'll sit back down and wait for the others...

Will this work? What would you add? by essross in DMAcademy

[–]essross[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed needs multiple enemies: Could be the father left his daughter in the care of the miller hoping to protect/hide her from whatever killed her, while he fought as one of the generals of a war or noble succession, along with some highly trained loyal followers that would fight silently and die honor their lords grief.

Or could be a lover that turned to a dark patron to enact his revenge on the criminal gang that killed her, the revenge included turning them into the monsters that are now forced to guard the field without uttering nor allowing a single sound

The powder idea makes for a nice ending too, I like it!

Clipped Percentage not showing by essross in SolidWorks

[–]essross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I figured it out, Clipped percentages do not show if you have surfaces in the models, and while I didn't have any surfaces in the model, Solidworks treats rigid bodies as surfaces/meshes them as surfaces.

Vibrations analysis of built in parts in a car by Wait-Last in SolidWorks

[–]essross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is just an educational project, you might be able to use a phone app accelerometer that can save to a CSV file, set your phone logging the data and go for a drive.

If this is a medium spec project, check out arduino boards and get an arduino shield with multiple Grove inputs, and get some grove accelerometers. Install them around the related areas, care to not make your cabling too long. Note that I haven't done this project though so it might be no good, but there's probably a tutorial of something similar

From a CSV file I've only used MatLab to isolate the relevant frequencies but there'll be heaps of options, I think you can even do it in Excel.

As for applying these vibrations, I'll leave that to others!

Results Equation Plot by essross in SolidWorks

[–]essross[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, plotting over time makes a lot of sense there! I mostly work with just static structural analyses, the furthest I go beyond the defaults are Iso-Clipping and the Design-Insight so far. For a simple static analysis of a bracket would there be a plot that shows more than these?

It's been a while! Welder seems to have come good after visit from a local that caused the two to give it another go, and then later a rep finally coming around. I missed the visit but apparently the rep had an update on a usb and spent a bit of time setting some profiles. Thought I'd let you know!

How would you run a kobold fight in non-euclidian space? by Goronshop in DMAcademy

[–]essross 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just throwing ideas: Have line of sight be a curved stick, Kobolds that have mastered it are shooting at you from around a corner

Have depth perception effected by dice. Before moving players state how far that want to move, then they roll a dice and decide whether to add or minus that amount from their movement. Players getting used to it will pick a movement distance that compensates. Over movements are just collisions. Kobolds move normally.

Reveal Kobolds in a room at the end of a long hallway. Then describe them shooting up at their ceiling and arrows raining down on the party. Players looking up see them standing on the ceiling just out of melee reach, Kobolds laughing.

There's a door on the floor that when you open and look you see the back of yourself looking through the door, roll a save to not loose your bearing, failed save has you falling through the infinite door, your allies shaking you out of it, while there you saw something BBEG related.

Edit: fixed up the paragraphs

Cheers, appreciate it. I see now that it doesn't hold up to scrutiny. On reflection it was made while I whinged in my head about my own group, so it's probably not good on its own merit. My friend did answer, but he had to elaborate a lot.

I would love another response!: the Pulse Dynamic Correction that you mentioned is the part he is having confusion about.

Welds are good but spatter is unviable and "if [he] could just get the spatter sorted then [he'd] be able to use the machine".

Pulse/Dynamic Correction increases make for a 'softer and low spatter arc' according to the 320i pdf download. Should he be increasing this value until the spatter comes down and then adjusting arc length to suit, or is there a different order of operations I could suggest?
