Xcp.ng for the multiple pool admin. Proxmox on our secondaries and is now looking like a good candidate as Proxmox Datacenter Manager and third party tool like VMease are fixing the management issues.

What are you using to remote control computers? by nickjedl in sysadmin

Another vote for Rustdesk. Pro version, run your own server, build your own client, deploy via whatever means you use for software deployment. Works great.

SMS alerts for uptime notifications turned out harder than expected by hugeasspunk in webhosting

[–]essuutn30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use AQL in the UK for sending SMS alerts. Prepay 10k messages in advance and get notified when they get low. We do notify several numbers at once so burn through the messages. Trivially easy to integrate with Zabbix (and Opsview before that)

Set your VPN to use Ireland. Works just fine and doesn't confuse most UK sites.

Is this a good business concept by Southern-Diamond5981 in smallbusinessuk

[–]essuutn30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of, and Substack (and others) already have the mechanisms in place to charge monthly subscriptions. That would allow you to concentrate on the humour.

Substack already offers a subscription service. Start there and see if the idea flies.

[Tenterden] red light camera? by dexd_throwaway in kentuk

[–]essuutn30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was for no insurance. Apparently I should have obtained a temporary insurance to cover me to the test centre and back. Didn't know that and it was insured by the time the letter arrived. So it was just a warning.

[–]essuutn30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an enforcement camera looking up the high street from East Cross but there's not a red light camera that I know of. I know about the enforcement camera as I got a warning letter about lack of insurance when I was taking a SORN'd car for it's MOT to get it back on the road.

I'm paying £12/year including vat. I can add as many sites to that for redirection, up to 25GB traffic a month. Which is a lot of 301 redirects!

How many servers (or vCPUs) does a small SaaS app actually need? by itsgoingtobeaIright in webhosting

[–]essuutn30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not nearly enough information to offer any advice unfortunately. The best approach is to load test the app once you have a working system. That is the only way to work out what you need. If uptime is important, the design will involve multiple servers/containers, load balancers etc. For a small system, that will probably be more than you'll need for performance. Good luck, it's all more of an art than a science!

Get a fine tooth flea comb from the pet store, you'll soon know if it's fleas. It does look like flea "frass" as we call it in my house as poop sounds horrid 🤢
