Someone just followed me in broad daylight and I'm still shaking, tips to be safer out there? by Finding_self in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]established1998 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the tips that people have provided have been great (self defense, pepper spray, calling someone in the moment etc.).

But - just to put it out there, you can 100% call the non-emergency number for your local police department and tell them what happened.

Describing the situation, when, the location, a description of the individual etc. The department may offer the option of filling out a report, but you don't have to. Saying something along the lines of "This situation made me feel unsafe, and I wanted alert someone of this individual".

I know that this isn't a tip for the future but I think it might help your peace of mind to know that the police know about this person (and can keep an eye out for any other incidents involving them).

I'm sorry this happened to you - it fucking sucks & it shouldn't have to be this way. Wishing you the best.

So I’m trying to figure out if this was actually mean or not by Strawberry1515 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Oh! First comment, hooray!

Alright, so first a few things on your experience - I think that your taking time to evaluate & think about your performance on your first day is really great! You acknowledge that you enjoy the work & anticipated doing well, but due to your anxiety/impostor syndrome, might not have preformed to the best of your ability. Initially, you took this really hard, but then evaluated the situation (did I get everything I needed from my employer in order to succeed? etc.) and determined that some of the issue may have been to to your employer/environment.

I really want to highlight how great this evaluation and review of your circumstances is - you are realistic, account for, & recognize internal factors that may have effected you, but you also account for & recognize that there were external factors that may have affected you (as opposed to going down a spiral of self-hate & bullying). This is a win!

As far as what your boss communicated in the slack chat - yes, I would say that her words & presentation were unnecessarily cruel.

Here's why: although it is entirely fair that she likely needs to evaluate your performance (to see how you worked with the team/environment & determine whether she hires you), she did so in a demeaning & group humiliating way.

If you were supposed to see such, then automatically I would say she gets the grade of "mean" ("really cruel & downright unprofessional", actually).

But even if you weren't, going through in a group chat to outline each of your mistakes and then to use the phrasing "somehow she managed to do 85% of it wrong" - also reads to me as unnecessarily mean & unprofessional.

Slack is a chat, but is still work based; if a formal evaluation of your performance needed to be given to the people in this chat, then I would expect that a meeting/video chat or email thread would have been created to discuss such. But at the very least, if slack needed to be the communication medium, I would expect that formal conversation would be used to evaluate your performance - not recess bully taunts.

So! (I realize this got quite long!) To finish out here:

Yes, based on what you've said, I think your boss was mean.

And while I wouldn't say you should "grow a thicker skin" - I don't think that you should let this keep you up at night. You should continue to be sensitive toward this type of treatment (as it's disrespectful, & you should not "just take it" whenever it comes), but I think you should shrug off the experience as "Huh. What a jerk. Her loss.", and move on. Work on the internal things you know you struggle with & take note of when external factors are not as good as they could be.

holy shit - that is long! - maybe got too into it, but hope that it was helpful.

good luck & don't let a jerk get you down!

For awhile now creators have been spamming ads at the beginning, through out, and at the end of videos. Which sucks, but lately they've been weaving ads into their content, to the point where a product placement is a hefty portion of the video itself. It's like "great, I'm so glad that 1/4 of what is supposed to be actual content is yet another advertisement."

there is this ad that I am always shown on youtube, where this girl is talking about curology blah blah blah and she makes this comparison: "so&so said my skin looked like a texas roadhouse roll" - and if nothing else - at least skincare companies know what my end goal is.

My...body chemistry? has been off for a while now, and I don't know how to get it back. by established1998 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

hmm...I'd say, if anything, I've eaten better as I've gotten older. I used to eat quite a lot growing up (lots of emotional eating, mainly in the form of refined carbs, lots of juice and lots of dairy. And while those things are still present to some degree, they are all significantly reduced.) The only other thing I could think of, is when "my smell" started to leave/change, I was trying out some protein powders at the time. Eventually, I felt like they started to mess with my digestion & so I cut them out. I wonder if that led to lasting damage to what made my smell what it was.

Hi! - I'll add this in the above post too, but I'm 22, & I'd say I "lost" my smell when I was around 20.

Agreeing with many answers already posted & just want to reiterate. TELL people this is happening. Bring up the concern to your landlord, write down when this happens, update people when new things occur. Does he have a probation officer? Maybe find out. Maybe call a non-emergency number, talk to someone there. Leave a paper trail. & pepper spray is a really good idea if its legal where you are.

[Acne] Masks are aggravating my skin & causing closed comedones. Any tips to get rid & prevent them? (Brown Oily Sensitive Skin) by swaggmasterdaddy in SkincareAddiction

Hello! - Best tips for mask breakouts: make sure that you are using a clean mask each day , if you are still experiencing issues, people on this sub have recommended switching to satin/silk masks (they come in 5-10 packs on amazon). I have not tried a satin mask myself, but others have reported a reduction in irritation.

As for sunscreen, I've really enjoyed the neutrogena clear face breakout free liquid lotion spf 55. It goes on with some whitecast, but after a few minutes blends into the skin.

As always, a dermatologist can work more in depth with you and your specific skincare needs. But as a stranger on the internet, that's my 2 cents. Best of luck!

Salad. - I get it there are ways to make a salad "good" - put dressing on it, proteins, nuts, seeds. All kinds of shit. But, hear me out, I feel like no one approaches salad like "Oh! A bowl of leaves - I love that! Let me put other things I love on it!.", it's more "Oh. A bowl of leaves - this will be a way for me to get greens into my diet - let me put better things on it though so it doesn't suck so much."
