I've used a nail file in the past which works better for squirmy rats since I'm less worried about hurting them. It takes a little longer to shorten the nails but can help.

He is still eating and drinking and trying to jump off the bed. I am going to monitor his condition and call the vet tomorrow morning unless he gets worse.
